Most professional and knowledgeable trainer I've ever had. Harry trains myself and team members in my company at our gym and makes it convenient to also train in my home when unable to get to work....Working with a trainer and a nutritionist is a bonus! Harry is very good about explaining what you are doing and why....My kids have even had the opportunity to watch a work out and he was able to make fantastic suggestions for meal recovery from soccer for my "tween" daughter.....I was also very surprised once the word got out that our company was working with Harry to train, how many other professionals and companies were using him as well!!....Keeping bodies and minds healthy raises our production, lowers our sickness and injuries and is amazing for our positive mental attitude!!.....Harry is definitely the "best find" of 2014, and we are fortunate to start 2015 already in a fitness rhythm!!! Thank you Harry! Michelle Fish Integra Staffing

My wife and I had begun using the professional services of Jordan Gross, owner of Nutrifix Nutrition recently. Jordan is extremely knowledgeable about the science and chemistry of foods as well as the proper portion size for each person's individual needs. This knowledge was crucial in helping my wife and I achieve wonderful, long lasting results by looking and feeling our best. We will be using Jordan's services and looking towards his expertise in the field of nutrition on a regular basis! A+++++

Alan was very responsive to my questions. His facility and atmosphere is calming to a novice strength trainer, like me, yet challenging enough to an experienced fitness pro. Alan's staff is knowledgeable, kind, courteous and encouraging. I look forward to reporting my great results.

I hired Marcia on thumbtack for personal training and she has been great!! She educates and motivates me - after only a couple months I've seen great results. As someone who had never spent a day in the gym, it's now become part of my regular routine and something I look forward to. Would recommend her to anyone and look forward to continuing to work out with her.

Cheaslei did a fantastic job, assisting me to maintain a healthier weight. She provides nutritional consultations and personal training sessions. She will soon be providing on-line services, for those that want to lose weight, but can not travel to her. I still have some weight to lose, but she has helped me in the beginning stages and continues to assist me!

I started training with Marquise while I was pregnant and after my OB/GYN released me to start working out after delivery he adjusted the workouts to tailor my changing body. He also worked with my schedule, and allowed me to bring my newborn as well. I would highly recommend Marquise as a personal trainer. He's very professional, compassionate and affordable!

My experience training with Samantha has been nothing short of awesome! I was completely clueless about how to get started with weights and resistance training and she has been a great (and patient) teacher! The benefits have been obvious and I have noticed that I feel much stronger and look more toned. She also offers nutrition coaching and helps me identify areas where I am holding myself back. All in all, she is awesome!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.
