I havent been taking lessons for that long, but I can already tell that my singing voice has improved tremendously since my initial lesson. My voice now has a lot more power than it has ever had before. The lessons are very informative, educational, and a lot of fun! Since Patrick Wickham is a voice physiologist, he knows all about the voice and what should be happening in your throat/back/abdomen to make certain sounds. I enjoy hearing about how everything works and what exercises to do to work certain muscles and things to improve my breathing, singing etc. I am very impressed with my experience and the service at WVS. Before every lesson I am offered tea, coffee, and water. Patrick Wickham makes every lesson slightly different so that we can work on different aspects of singing. The lessons are also catered to the individual so that you get the best experience and also the best techniques that will work for you. The lessons are recorded and sent to you after the lesson. That way, you can practice at home and you know what you need to work on. Just like everything else, you have to practice if you want to get better and want to see the results you desire. Patrick Wickham even sends you (via email) exercises to do to practice using the various muscles and things you use while singing. If you ever have any questions about anything from a clarification of something in the lesson, or a question about your performing career, Patrick Wickham is always there is help you in any way he can. Since he has an incredible amount of experience in performing, he can give great and reliable advice to any of your questions or concerns. I have had an outstanding experience so far and I cant wait to see how much I will improve in the future! Thank you Patrick Wickham!
I've been taking lessons with Dom for about 3 months and I can definitely say that my playing opened up. As a guitarist whose been playing for 5+ years sometimes you get this plateaued feeling where everything you play feels unfresh and dated. Taking weekly classes with Dom has helped challenge me(showing me that i don't know everything) as well as change my perspective on music and guitar playing. All those who hire him prepare yourselves to look at your guitar confused for a quick second ,but it will all make sense once you spend time with the material. Enjoy and always strive and prosper.
Senor Avalos is a first rate teacher. He makes it interesting and fun. I have had four lessons so far, am about to book another six, and will keep going from there.
Rae has been giving me one hour voice lessons for approx. two months, at her home. What impressed me is her vast experience, patience, and friendliness. She has gone above and beyond, and my voice has improved tremendously. I am very satisfied with the quality of her work and highly recommend her.
Gloria is great! I've been taking lessons with her for about six months now! I started at a beginner/intermediate level and Gloria is able to tailor all of the lessons to meet my needs exactly. She uses a fun combination of work books, youtube videos, and conversation to provide a great learning environment. I couldn't recommend her more!
I have been working with David as a bass teacher for a couple of months now to re-develop my skills and he has been a fantastic instructor. David has a great ability to read where you are in your development and come up with fun and relevant lessons to advance your development. He clearly has a deep knowledge of music theory but makes his lessons in theory much more interesting than any I've ever had and has me look forward to learning every week. David has made learning bass fun and I'd highly recommend him.
My son, age 14, had his first lesson private lesson with Serge last week and love it! Serge is a professional and obviously well versed in Krav Maga. He is also a very good instructor, explaining the moves but kept the class fast paced and fun. We bought a 5 class private package for a great price. Would highly recommend!
This 60 minutes was filled with everything I needed to prep for my last minute audition, including help with printing sheet music and recording the piano accompaniment and melody for practice at a later time. Very grateful for the time spent- A 5 star lesson!
Michelle has been working with my daughter weekly since early August. We couldn't be happier! Since her first lesson, Michelle has made my 10 year old feel comfortable and confident. Our daughter has been inspired by her lessons and literally doesn't stop practicing singing and keyboard. We have already recommended Michelle to other parents in our community.
Christopher was awesome! I did weekly private guitar lessons with him over Google Hangouts, and felt like I really learned a lot. You can tell he really cares about his students and puts a lot of extra effort into making sure you're getting the most out of your lessons.
I'm only 4 weeks into my lessons and I must say that I truly get my money's worth coming to Jimi. Being a rather shy guy, I was a bit nervous to meet Jimi but he is one of the most genuine and welcoming people I have ever met. Jimi is truly passionate about music and his students and is committed to helping you achieve your goals. I have learned a tremendous amount from Jimi in these 4 weeks--more so than the past 4 months that I played before actually taking lessons. With Jimi, I now have a firmer grasp on how music works through theory and scales. Basically, Jimi is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to music. He possesses a wealth of knowledge ranging from music theory to ear training and is very well cultured on different styles of music. I've watched him play parts of songs from an array of genres BY EAR, from Shinedown's "Sound of Madness" (hard rock), to Ghost's "Cirice" (heavy metal), to REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You" (soft rock), to Rancid's "Fall Back Down" (ska/punk). Every time I saw him play a song by ear, my jaw dropped in awe. So if you live in Long Island and you're looking to learn technique, improvisation, soloing, theory and/or ear-training, Jimi Durso is your go-to guy! It's worth every penny.
Francis is very professional. His piano lessons are very tailored and engaging. I would highly recommend.
Dave is an amazing instructor! He truly cares about his students. Keep an open mind when coming to his lessons, because I can assure you that his methods are to ensure that you enhance musically, but with correct techniques. Dave is patient and honest. He not only wants to see his students do well and improve in their lessons, but he also cares about his student's well-being. I am happy that I found Dave on thumbtack, by far the best decision, I have ever made. I have improved greatly within the year, and I know I'll continue.
Very nice and helpful instructor. His technique in teaching you the Spanish, helps you to retain and immerse you fully into the language. I look forward to future lessons and the possibility of becoming fluent!
Viky is very friendly and a great teacher for both piano and singing. I highly recommend her.
Katryna really knows her stuff. She really focuses on your fundamentals and teaches many valuable techniques to make you a well-rounded singer. What I love most about her is that she is equally fun and tough, and not tough in a bad way at all; she just makes extra sure that you are working your hardest and helps you really understand how to sing at your fullest potential. She sings so many different genres, so her knowledge is broad and her teaching is diverse. I highly recommend you see her if you are serious about becoming a singer. You really gain a lot of insight about being an artist from her.
My 5 year old started with Ms. Delon 2 months ago. Her piano teaching style is exceptional. She means real piano lessons and every single minute of her class is maximize! In a Very short span of time, my daughter is reading and writing notes and playing several piano pieces. My daughter’s love for music keeps growing more and more since the day we met Ms. Delon. She looks forward for her piano class every Saturday!
Kino is really patient with me, and her space is really clean, bright and large, highly recommend her for piano lessons.
Michael is a terrific teacher! He is everything a student of music could ask for in an instructor. I am a busy professional who decided randomly to start learning bass guitar and Michael has been a blast to learn from. First, he is very professional: he is punctual, responsive and very flexible when accommodating my very busy work schedule. He takes the lessons seriously: while we have a lot of fun, he is focused on making sure I am getting as much as I can out of each lesson. No time is wasted. Second, Michael has a great teaching method: we learn while having fun. I know so many other students of music who dread meeting with their teachers (they want to learn but hate the process). Michael makes the sometimes challenging process of learning a new instrument actually enjoyable. This may seem obvious to some but it's worth repeating: if you enjoy something, you'll want to do it more and get better at it. Michael brings that kind of energy to our lessons. Finally, Michael's rates are very reasonable especially considering how much I learn during each lesson. Anyone interested in learning an instrument should absolutely consider learning from Michael Karsh. You will not be disappointed.
Robert is an excellent teacher, and I very much enjoy working with him every week. Robert focuses heavily on fundamentals and teaches students the concepts underlying the music. My proficiency to both play and read sheet music has greatly improved since beginning lessons with him. Additionally, Robert is an incredibly thoughtful and nice teacher and is always very well prepared for every lesson. I was introduced to Robert by another student, and I would highly recommend him to anyone else interested in playing, regardless of level / skill.
Kyle is simply the best! I've taken lessons in the city for the past decade with at least a dozen teachers of varying price points/experience, and Kyle is hands down the most thoughtful and talented teacher/player I have encountered. He takes the time to understand where you're currently at, and figure out what you need to get to the next level rather than try to fit you into preset lesson plan like so many (even good!) instructors do. And the man can shred! Really couldn't recommend him highly enough!
