It was a pleasure having Mr. Kelley in my home to take care of my carpet cleaning services. Not only was Mr. Kelley on time for his appointment, he was courteous and pleasant, meticulous in carrying out work, knowledgeable about what was to be done......., and frankly there are not enough adjectives to describe Mr. Kelley and his work ethics. With more people like Mr. Kelley around, the Service Industry would certainly have a leading advantage of all the industries in the US. Thanks again Mr. Kelley for a job well done.

Mike went above and beyond in his services with his carpet cleaning expertise. Our carpets see a lot of heavy foot traffic and he did an excellent job with cleaning our carpets and common areas. Am so glad i made the right choice! After using other cleaning services in the past, i actually tried Seagull Cleaning Services based on the reviews they had on thumbtack and I was definitely right! The way the owner responded to my needs on having my new house deep cleaned in Alpine, NJ was phenomenal. I've been on a recurring clean with them every two weeks and I could not be happier. I have a very busy schedule so i usually make payment online and drop the keys and go about my business and every time I get back, Its like I just bought a new house. Their prices are so reasonable and why won't you a give a good tip? How much can you ask for? If you're looking for a new cleaning service - do yourself a favor and give Seagull Cleaning Service a chance - and you will be glad you did!

Honestly my carpet wasn’t the condition they got it I took a picture of it before I sent it over to them and they said it was in worst. That as them stepping all over it without a care. They were super unresponsive and irresponsible. And the carpet smells horrible and our stains in which was the reason we got a carpet cleaning now still there. Waste of money to be honest. I guess they tried their best but it’s not really enough.

Phil @ Surface Spa exceeded my expectations. He was honest, reliable and professional, quoted us a fair price and delivered exactly what he said he would. He cleaned a significant amount of our carpets and area rugs and they look refreshed and like new. I then re-hired him to clean our dining room chairs and they look great. I would highly recommend Phil and Surface Spa for any of your carpet or upholstery cleaning needs.

Chem-Dry of Clifton was excellent! The price they quoted was the exact price I paid when they arrived! It wasn’t a bait and switch like I e dealt with in the past. I had a large job to be done. Danny and his technicians were efficient and professional. They finished the job in a few hours and the carpets came out like brand new. I would highly recommend Danny and his staff to anyone who wants honest, professional carpet cleaning service.

After getting several quotes to refresh/clean my sectional, I came across Oxiclean on this site. Hakan was extremely professional, prompt and courteous. His prices were competitive. We didn't have any major stains on our sectional or carpet but they came out freshened and renewed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.

What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
