Herson and his crew did a great job with both the roofing and siding projects. While there are always unexpected things pop up in construction projects, they handled them as best as they could. Despite the 3-4 storms which hindered the work, they did their best to stay close to the schedules.

Eduardo Manito arrived on time for all aspects of my reroofing job; he guaranteed his work, had 20 years in the business and was very knowledgeable about the serious leaking I had. He told me that the second course of Timberline shingles had been improperly installed resulting in very wet underlayment, which was rotting in some places. My roof was 38 years old. His crew of 6 men replaced 20 sheets of underlayment with new plywood, installed the 27squares of new roof after removing both courses of old shingles in one day. They replaced all flashing and installed it correctly. They cleaned up the yard and answered all my questions, were always PROFESSIONAL, and gave me a very good price for the job. (They beat all their competitors pricing) I called 5 references of five recent jobs they did and all praised their work. I really had no complaints and I will use them again when I do my siding. Great job. The ceiling required tearing out damaged sheet rock, replacing with new, tape, sparkle and sanding. Looks brand new. Would hire again.

I was very happy with Quito's Contractors. They were prompt, reliable, reasonable and did excellent work. I needed siding repaired after a tree hit my house. Quito's Contractors fixed the siding, reattached a gutter and put up beautiful new shutters. Felix was pleasant, prompt to respond, creative and very reasonable. I would recommend him for any siding and roofing job you are considering.

Dior reached out to me on Thumbtack, actually, and Dior really did have the best price for the work performed. We had a 3-layer tear-off and full replacement. During Dior's estimate process, he tried to get as much information as possible -- more than just measurements -- so that the quote could be more accurate. We had some rotted wood but his price per plywood sheet is very reasonable, and the total roof job was done, with cleanup and everything, in a single day. Dior was onsite and monitoring the work and the end result is a beautiful roof. It's rained almost every day since and we're very happy with how it turned out.

Julio was extremely professional and thorough completing several tasks around our condo. Did a great job fixing our patio door which became detached from the metal frame and exterior wall during high winds, replaced several screens on our patio doors and caulked our bathroom tiles. Everything looks new. It was a pleasure working with him and I highly recommend without reservations. Also he was very reasonably priced costing us 1/3 the price of some other contractors' quotes. Will definitely hire him again!

I have a 6-story facade that had cracked, as a result of hurricane sandy, the roof had leaked, getting into the house and damaging everything. Water dripped from the gutter seeped into the walls and caused heavy damages. The walls were damaged with mold getting inside, with peeling paint from the facade. We needed to re-do the brownstone and fix all the damages. within many quotes, high tech was within my budget. Up and foremost, the roof was re-layered to prevent any more damages. The facade was chipped off (about 2 inches) from the wall applied portland cement and scratch coat. There were many details missing from the window sills and facade that High tech handcrafted and restored. Shaiful explained to me that it would be best if the cornice would be painted, and restored with all details and design before applying the final-coat brownstone. He stated for best results the facade should dry and cure, the longer the drying process the optimal the results. After the drying process, they did the final-coat, the cornice looked great, and all the designs were handcurved. The walls, inside of the house, the sheet-trock was removed, patched, and new insulation placed with new sheetrock. With such a major project on-going, I had a wonderful experience!

Tom Robinson and his team did an amazing job on our roof. Our home was built in the 1850's and there were 5 layers of old roofing in some areas, so it was a bit more challenging than your typical residential roof. Tom provided the most reasonable quote and took care of disposal - there was a lot of old material to dispose of! HR Roofing uses Timberline HD roofing shingles and had more color options than the other roofing companies that I met with - we also looked through a number of metal roofing options. Tom redid our fascia (a last minute request) and was very detail orientated. Louise was very organized and did a great job with customer service. She also helped put us in touch with businesses for other home improvement projects. I highly recommend HR Roofing and am very pleased with the results.

Chris and his crew are fantastic workers. They transformed an old barn with new siding on one side and metal roofing after they rebuilt one of the gables. Chris installed a weathervane that I purchased last minute on a whim. After seeing their work on the barn, we asked Chris to add some missing flashing around our garage. He and his crew were meticulous! They worked in the extreme heat and showed up as soon as the rain stopped one morning to keep the job on schedule. Awesome experience for a fair price.

Greg's Home Improvement is my go-to business for any and all home repairs. In the past 6 months, they have done many improvements and repairs on my home including a roof, siding, painting, sheet rock, sliding door installation, and replacing rotting wood under the deck. I found their prices to be reasonable. They are reliable, easy to work with and importantly, highly trustworthy and honest. I was 100% comfortable with Greg and his workers (who are his family) to be in my home. I would recommend Greg to anyone!

Alpha Contractors did an Excellent Job replacing my roof!! They sent 8-9 guys to get the roof completely finished in 2 days. Everyone was on time, professional and skilled at what they did. They also replaced the sheet rock in the living room ceiling which also came out very nice. The company is a class act! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
