First of all, I strongly recommend Jeff as a guitar teacher and look forward to continued lessons. I have never taken guitar lessons before so I am new to the instrument. Jeff spent some time before our first lesson asking about my experience level with music to get a gauge of me as a player and musical preferences (classic/hard rock), which I appreciated. Also, Jeff helped me pick out a very reasonable priced electric guitar.
During lessons he focuses on technique and keeping it simple with songs to get me playing right away. I don't read music but his immediate answer was, "No problem." Jeff explained that I can still become a good player and enjoy playing without a formal background.
Jeff is consistently reminding me not to get frustrated and always provides encouragement. I work more than 40 hours a week and have limited practice time, but no doubt I am improving. When he has an idea or wants to re-enforce a point, Jeff has me take of a video recording of him playing so I have a reference during the week.
Just starting has been the hardest part and Jeff is committed to my development. If you are looking for an instructor don't hesitate to contact Jeff!

I just relocated to the Henderson area. I have been banging out cowboy chords on a guitar for years, but recently got my first electric and a burning desire to learn some lead, blues, CW riffs and better technique, knowledge and command of the fret board.
After interviewing and meeting with 4 other teachers, I am happy to report I chose Jeff. Jeff knows his stuff, is prepared, is respectful of my time and efforts, is knowledgeable about music, music theory, guitar technique and can effectively transfer his knowledge to a student in the way that particular student learns. All while having fun!
Prior to my first lesson Jeff asked me for examples of what I'd like to learn. At my first lesson he had a notebook prepared with fundamental technique for me to practice, music tabbed out that I had mentioned, and a lot of good material for me to practice. I was playing some cool stuff immediately. My wife was surprised not to hear the usual from me when I got home.
I chose Jeff for his skill and knowledge, his approach to teaching and for what seemed would be a fun learning experience. I chose well and I can comfortably commend Jeff Colvin to anyone wishing to learn and improve on the guitar.
