I’ve taken my SATs a couple of times and although I am not a bad student, I just felt that I could have done better, I knew it inside, but just could not find where it was. I got the Getting Into The Ivys tutoring program and worked with a Chelsea tutor. What I really like about my tutor is that she’s a qualified teacher and is professional and knows how to actually teach concepts properly. I really did not want to take any chances. Going to university is very important to me and my family. Susan my tutor developed a special study plan just for me, which helped me focus on my key weaknesses, without feeling de-motivated, in-fact I was so enthused by her, I actually looked forward to all my sessions. She is a brilliant tutor and I am so very grateful. I was able to increase my composite core by 100. I am very pleased.

If you are shopping around, just stop and call these guys right now. I've been very bad at math my entire life. I flunked algebra three times before I called Arbor Tutors. The tutor was very understanding and nonjudgmental. I can highly recommend Arbor Tutors

I picked Darren out of the math tutors that responded on thumbtack because I was impressed with his email. In the 4weeks he has tutored my son he has indeed put his money where his mouth is. My son went from 2F's, D to all A's and B's. He is an excellent educator and would recomend him to anyone who wants to really learn.

Steven, from privatelvtutors, was an excellent math tutor for my 5th grade son. He showed up about 10 minutes early, he was well dressed and very professional. He came with his own assessment supplies and worked very diligently, patiently and caringly with my child. When Steven left, my son said to me that he felt like he had actually learned something!

My name is Shawn, and I have been a tutor for 3 years now. I have a 4.0 GPA in college, and I am working towards a degree in nursing with the eventual goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. I also have a goal of becoming a teacher in a professorial role in the sciences. I tutored for Golden West College in California last semester for anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and biology. I have tutored privately for these as well. I have taken two tutor mastering courses at Golden West, and I absolutely feel I have a knack for it. I also have taught in other capacities previously to tutoring. I have been a teaching assistant for microbiology, anatomy, Russian sports massage, and professional development. I am currently an instructor for my men's organization at church as well as a cub scout den leader. This is my dead semester so I will be much more available. This semester/year, I will be also tutoring for human physiology, paper writing, and basic math.

I have a Master's Degree in Special Education, and am certified to teach English, Special Education (LD, ED, and MR), and history and government at the secondary level. I have taught for nine years in public schools. 90% of my core and special education students passed the State mandated tests. This record of success is due to the work on efficient note taking, study techniques and test taking strategies, along with enthusiastic and motivation-based instruction. Above all, I love and respect my students. They realize early on that I'm on their side, and I concentrate on positive feedback, rather than the negative reactions they unfortunately have learned to expect. Students with behavioral and educational issues have learned that they can be successful and consequently shed the experience of being failures.

I am math teacher who explains the fundamentals of the subject and imbibes the concepts in students. I help my students learn the concepts which might be potentially applied in different fields.

You will learn English, Math or Science from a certified, experienced professional. I have a master's degree in computer science, a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a TEFL certification and three years of English teaching experience. I also have three years of experience as a math and science tutor.

I tutor all K-12 subjects. I am a college student at CSN. I love working with children. I am patient, a great communicator and a quick learner.

I'm focus ready to teach and would rather not waste time teaching if the student's are not serious about learning. I'm dedicated to teach to reach my goal during my session for my students. Choose a topics ;)

I'm an experienced international business teacher having worked in Korea and Japan. I'm very good with Asian students at all levels and professions. I did a lot of work helping and getting them into US colleges. I'm particularly getting them into Ivy League universities, i.e., Harvard and Stanford. One-on-one support is my specialty.

The mission: The education system in the United States has fallen short in properly educating its citizens. Out of necessity, schools prioritize efficiency over quality in their teaching strategies. This approach introduces several important problems: 1. Our culture chastises mistakes instead of giving students chances to make mistakes in an appropriate setting. 2. Students are rarely provided ample feedback on mistakes they make 3. Blanket teaching methods disregard student individuality 4. Rote memorization becomes the primary learning modality instead of critical thinking My tutoring approach differs from conventional teaching strategies. In my experience, the tutor simply assists the student in solving a particular homework, lab, or test question. While this approach can help correct specific mistakes, this strategy presents two important issues. First, it does not address why the student is having trouble with this problem. Second, we miss an important opportunity to develop a strategic framework which can be utilized to solve a much broader scope of problems. We are better served by first understanding why we are struggling. Next, we will construct a bulletproof strategy that will enable the student to not only tackle the toughest “textbook” problems, but also continue to develop the skills necessary to solve the “real world problems.” At Crush Math and Science, my mission is straightforward. First, I want to cultivate you or you loved one's ability to understand the mechanics and techniques of mathematical or scientific principles. Then, we will apply these mechanics to construct a unique and practical problem solving strategy the student can understand implement. Let's get started! To your prosperity, Patrick

I provide caring, patient tutoring for multiple subjects to all ages. I am flexible and understanding with time and go the extra mile to help the student understand the concepts we are covering in each session. My students walk away with better grades and a positive outlook on education and how profoundly it can impact their futures.

I tutor students at all levels in the correct format of Spanish, for reading, writing and speaking. I am very patient and flexible with lesson times and days.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions.
