I have been teaching for over 10 years. I teach privately full-time and run my own company. I personally hire other enthusiastic and experienced music teachers to work with me. I believe learning music should be fun. While it also takes hard work and dedication, a student must first enjoy music in order to continue and progress. My teachers and I incorporate well-known songs into lessons so that students can relate to what they are learning. We also use many of our own games and worksheets to keep students engaged at all times. We offer many different types of lessons including singing, piano, acting, guitar, songwriting, and much more. We also offer two (optional) recitals each year so that students can showcase what they have learned. I love watching students of all ages progress and accomplish things they never thought they could accomplish. This helps them to grow not only as a musician, but also as a person. I have watched all of our students become more confident as their lessons progress. It's exciting because music education is so much more than just teaching students notes on a page.

Lessons in Piano, Guitar, Theory, Composition

    (17 reviews)

I bring to lessons a solid and expansive education in music performance, theory, and composition in different styles, as well as the ability to explain and display the necessary skills in a variety of ways for a diversity of learning styles. I teach an aggressive curriculum, but one that is tailored to the student's individual strengths and weaknesses, and I always remain gentle and patient while guiding my students through the rewarding process of learning to create music. I enjoy so much about my work, and here are just a few elements: -Sharing my love for music with those eager to learn the art for themselves. -The moments when the student finds expression the music, transcending the notes as they're written on the page. -Seeing my students perform at their recitals, where they share everything they have learned. -Meeting so many incredible people who are all connected by a love for music!

  • Piano Instructor

    Myla Kato-DuVally

I am a New York based pianist and piano teacher. I also give instruction in music history and music theory. Like many people, I began playing the piano at a young age and soon fell in love with the instrument. This led me to pursue a degree in piano performance and since then, I have had an active career in performing, writing musicological articles and providing musical instruction to students of all ages. As a teacher, I learn as much from my students as they do from me. The most important thing to me is that my students enjoy the process of learning, and I do this through taking the time to understand and appreciate each student's unique personality and skill set. Every student has the potential to be great at what they do-all they need is motivation, hard work, and a passion for learning. My job is to provide the student with the tools to succeed and enjoy music!

  • Piano Lessons

    Jonathan L. Segal

    (16 reviews)

Our son has been taking piano lessons with Jonathan for several years. Out of all the teachers our son has had, Jonathan is far and away his favorite. Lessons mix technique, theory, scales, improvisation and songs; genres include classical, jazz, rock, pop and more. Jonathan can play anything and more than that, can teach anything! Jonathan respects his students and teaches to their ability—lessons are fun and fast moving, yet demanding. For more advanced students, Jonathan’s performance background is a bonus--he has helped our son prepare for concerts at Madison Square Garden and The Bitter End. Jonathan has been with us every step of the way and we will no doubt be with him every step of our son’s musical career. I would whole-heartedly recommend Jonathan to students of all levels." Thank you so much Jonathan!!!

  • Private Piano Teachers

    Sara Chatalbash

If you want a true piano teacher whose main instrument is the piano and not a hobby or secondary instrument, I'm the one to choose. I've been playing piano since I was 5 years old, started music theory/composition lessons at the age of 8, graduated from The Crane School of Music with a concentration in piano studying under Julie Miller, and have played in solo recitals, concerts, plays and have also professionally accompanied. I started my first NYSSMA at age 7 and have done all six levels (five and six twice to keep up my performing skills). I have performed at venues including Queens College, Carnegie Hall, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and numerous children's hospitals and libraries for free public recitals. My original compositions have won first place in the county, state, and country. I'm an easygoing person who loves to teach by making the process fun. I have taught private lessons for 9 years to all ages and levels. I have trained students for NYSSMA with great scores and also specialize in preparing for college auditions! Whatever your goal is, I can help you achieve it. Lesson Details Whatever your musical goal is, I will help you reach it and have a great time doing it. Lesson plans and techniques will be specifically catered to each student and how he/she learns best. Lessons will be laid back, yet challenging. I love to kid around, but I'm serious about making progress. I am a firm believer in playing what you want to play. I'm a patient person, and I know how to work with various learning styles. I strongly believe that practice makes permanent!

I teach music lessons including violin and piano; feel free to reach out with any questions.

    (15 reviews)

I have been teaching for over ten years now, and I've taught a wide variety of ages and experience levels: 5 year olds just learning the basics of the violin to 65 year olds picking up their instrument after a long hiatus. One of the joys and challenges of teaching music is that I can cater my teaching style to the student's learning style. That means incorporating other media (drawing, acting, etc.) for young kids, or concentrating hard on complicated/nuanced aspects of technique for more advanced players. I also include ear-training and aural skills in my lessons because I believe students should be not just players of their instrument, but also well-rounded musicians and educated consumers of music in our culture. The different people one meets. And the satisfaction of hearing progress in the student's playing.

  • Marc's Piano And Music Lessons

    (12 reviews)

I am both a performer, composer, improviser and teacher. I love teaching and trying to articulate what I mean as clearly as possible during lessons. I am very organised, punctual and polite, and am able to tailor lessons to almost any need. If I can't I'll suggest someone who might be able to. Articulating why music and the piano are such fascinating things, and hopefully getting people to forge their own connection with music.
