Taking classes with Maria is a dream. I was so intimidated by the piano but she is so encouraging and really pushes you to move quickly. She has a way of straddling the line that's just beyond the comfort zone which is where the learning magic happens!

Annie is honestly the best. I studied voice when I was younger and stopped due to performance anxiety, so it was super important to me when I finally decided to try again that I found a teacher I could connect with and feel comfortable with. Couldnt imagine anyone better than Annie! Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable (im even learning theory and it's FUN) she's lovely to be around. She's also very intuitive and comes up with vocal exercises that seem like they were made just for me - they're so spot on! I always end up pushing my boundaries and have grown so much with her guidance: confidence-wise and vocal-wise. You'll love working with Annie - she really cares about all of her students and has the skill and knowledge to help you grow in ways you never thought possible. Couldn't recommend her more!

Christine is a truly phenomenal teacher. If you have any hesitations about starting voice lessons because you are afraid of singing in front of other people, have no fear! Christine made me feel completely comfortable from the very first minute of our first lesson together. She is classically trained and extremely knowledgable about singing. I would recommend beginning lessons with her to get a solid technical foundation even if you eventually want to sing pop or R&B (i.e. she is not just for classical/opera singers!) That being said, I've met several of her other students and heard them sing and some are very serious students of the craft; she is an excellent teacher for experienced singers as well. During lessons, she plays her (baby?) grand piano in a large private area of her home. The walls in the singing area are filled with books of sheet music, but she also happily found specific songs online for me to work on when she didn't have the music already. She has an incredible ear- she truly listens to you and can pinpoint and explain to you exactly what to change (your posture or breathing, enunciation etc.) to instantly improve your tone and pitch. Improving your voice is a long process, and there are no magical tricks (except practice practice practice!). But with Christine as your guide, you will see improvement and most importantly, you will gain confidence. She truly believes in her students, which helps them believe in themselves too.

I'm having one hour (classical) singing lessons with Andrew, on a weekly basis. I had already taken singing lessons in France, so I came with standards and expectations. To be honest, it was better than what I was expecting ! Andrew is a great teacher : he takes times for his students, pays a lot of attention to every detail, give really good advice. If you add his natural kindness and cheerfulness, you can easily make the conclusion that he is the perfect singing teacher !

Gordon is a really incredible teacher. I play guitar and bass in bands and have never felt confident in my backing vocal abilities. Gordon tailors each lesson to my needs and does not have a cookie cutter routine of scales that are hard to apply to music. After only a handful of lessons my voice is much stronger and I'm excited to rather than petrified to sing harmonies for my upcoming gigs. Gordon gives each lesson 100%, yet keeps them fun. That can't be easy. I highly recommend Gordon!!

About

After a long and successful career as an opera and concert soloist and vocal pedagogue, I am back in New York and am accepting serious students of all ages in my vocal studio in southern Westchester. I had a very demanding schedule with over 25 major operatic roles and singing 80 performances a season, first as a lyric-coloratura soprano and later switched to young dramatic, lirico-spinto repertoire. I could fully rely on a very solid vocal technique taught to me by the wonderful tenor Felix Knight with whom I worked from a very young age into maturity, and although I had a rigorous schedule, my voice remained healthy. I also worked with Luigi Ricci on my Italian repertoire in Rome, and wonderful conductors who coached me musically. I want to pass on this Italian, "bel-canto technique" to my students. I am committed to helping my students find their "unique" sound, one that is free, natural sounding and strong. Having lived and worked all over Europe, I am fluent in German, Italian and French, as well in the musical style needed for art song, oratorio and opera. I also teach the belt technique for musical theater, which Felix Knight made me familiar with over the years of my work with him. I am a member of NATS (National Assoc. for the Teaching of Singing) and in the summer months, I welcome students to participate in masterclasses in Tuscany, Italy. For more information, please visit my website and click Casentino Voice or look for the Facebook Page for Casentino Voice. Below are her clients' reviews: "Ms. Girard is a great teacher for the professional singer. She is creative and intuitive, and has the skill to help you immediately improve upon that which you already have. I am very excited that I have found her." "Valerie knows what to fix and what to leave alone". "Valerie can teach you how to sing without pressure while still producing a strong sound". "A good teacher, must be able to help you significantly in the first lesson. Valerie is one of those". "Sometimes you feel that every note has its own problem, Valerie knows them all and how to get rid of them" "Since I've been studying with Valerie, my voice has gotten richer and more even. Singing feels a lot easier now" "If you really want to learn how to sing, Valerie can teach you, It's that simple." "I've studied with so many teachers, Valerie is the first one to focus on my problems, solve them and make me feel good about my strengths at the same time." "So many voice teachers just let you stand out in the rain and just talk about themselves, Valerie doesn't, she focuses on you and makes sure you learn more about your own voice and how to use it."

About

I've taken voice lessons for nearly 10 years and as a result have had a number of different teachers, but I feel my voice is the strongest and most stable it has ever been after studying with Katie. She hits the nail on the head with her visuals - unlike other instruments, you can't see what you're playing when you sing, so being able to understand what your teacher is getting at is crucial to the process. Katie far surpasses any teacher I've had in this way. Aside from her solid vocal and teaching skills, she's a joy to be around. Voice lessons are a much more pleasant experience when your teacher makes you feel comfortable enough to laugh at your own mistakes, brush them off, and go for it again. There is literally no judgment in the room - only encouragement and construction. I absolutely would (and have in the past) recommend Katie to beginner and advanced students.

I have known Michael for a little over a year now, and I never cease to be amazed by his talent as a vocalist and teacher. I worked with Michael in Curious George Live! where he acted as our vocal captain (essentially our musical director) on tour. He lead our warm ups and cleaned songs. He worked with us on harmonies and blending. He has a keen ability to sense what needs to change in order to make a song sound better and convey it's message. Michael has worked with all levels of talent and is a capable teacher for beginners as well as seasoned professionals. He is very funny and fun to work with. He keeps the environment light while remaining ever-professional. I highly recommend working with Michael, whether it be for ongoing voice lessons or audition preparation. You won't be disappointed.

About

I am taking voice lessons with Vivian. This is the first time in my singing career that I feel like I am making great strides in singing. I’ve been singing and taking lessons for years. I’ve now blossomed. I am singing my highs higher and my lows lower. I didn’t know that I had it in me. My mom has been encouraging my singing since I elementary school. She’s been telling me that I can have a career in singing. Now as a senior in HS faced with college options I’ve really started thinking about career choices. Vivian has me singing a different tune, she not only is bringing out my best voice but she is showing me life’s realities as well. Thank you Vivian for bringing out my best.

About

My vocal lessons are designed to open up vocal registers, extend the vocal range, iron-out break areas, and build dynamics within the voice. I believe everyone has the ability to sing, it's only that some people have more developed vocal chord coordination than others. I have seen time and time again students come into class who classify themselves, or have be classified as tone-def from past teachers, only to develop freedom, range and great tone in just a few months - it just takes diagnostic focused practice and patients. My classes are held at my studio in Hell's Kitchen New York City (or online via Skype and FaceTime). In my relaxing and comfortable setting, we'll work one-on-one to build your voice by first diagnosing what's blocking you from achieving vocal excellence, then we'll go ahead and design a specific vocal exercise program to suit. Lesson Rates: Private in studio 1 hour lesson- $60

Rebecca has been my daughter's voice coach for years. She is an incredible teacher! She has vast musical abilities, but also has great knowledge about competitions, scholarships etc that my daughter has directly benefited from. My daughter went from singing casually to winning an international vocal competition. That was a direct result of Rebecca's lessons and encouragement. Rebecca is a terrific teacher ... One I would (and have) highly recommend!

Learn to sing with Martin Sola. With more than 20 years of vocal instruction, my students have performed on Broadway, National Tours, and in regional theaters throughout the country. I am currently on the Faculty at Lafayette College in Easton, PA ; where I teach in both the theater and music departments. I hold a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Illinois, and have performed on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, with New York City Opera, and many stages throughout the United States and internationally. My Philosophy: Anyone can learn to sing through determination, hard work, and careful practice. In singing, one's body is one's instrument. The first step towards developing a reliable singing voice is understanding the function and mechanics of how the body and breath work together to support and free the voice.

About

Learn the music you love! I offer piano lessons for beginners through advanced. I teach all ages. I offer traditional teaching with the reading of the main two clefs (bass and treble), music theory, immediate approach to the keyboard, immediate exercise that develop the presence of your fingers in the keyboard as well as the strength and speed of your fingers. Start to play your favorite music from the very first lesson! Learning piano includes the following: * ear training * sight reading * music harmony * improvisational skills * knowledge of music history * counterpoint * technical mastery (note by note passage at every speed, octaves, double thirds, trills, arpeggios, scales, etc.) Technical mastery is not limited to the above. I also offer mastery of touch (how to approach the keyboard for a legato, articulate touch and semi-legato) and mastery of phrasing. The music phrase is different, depending on the composer and the period when the music was composed. I have complete command of knowledge from Bach to Broadway songs. Piano lessons are available also in a more easy-going way of learning which is reading only with the treble clef with the complete understanding of the chord symbols. This style of learning is definitely for jazz standards, Broadway and pop music. I offer singing lessons or vocal coaching for pop singers. The philosophy of my teaching here is based on the music that you want to learn. I don't do yoga lessons or relaxation lessons. I do start from the music. From the phrasing, you'll know where to breath. From the music, you'll know what kind of voice timbre to use (you don't sing a Broadway aria like a Beatles song). From the music, you'll learn the text by memory, understanding what kind of expression to use according to the meaning of the text itself. Warming up of the voice is essential for successful learning. I resume it in two essential points which are as follows: * Knowledge of your vocal range without trying to stretch where your voice can't arrive and will never arrive (find the beauty of your real voice) * Blending of lower middle and high range I offer performance opportunities for the most talented. I also offer vocal coaching for classical and opera singers. Identify from the beginning the timbre of your voice as well as your voice range. Some unlucky students have been convinced to belong to a voice range that is not theirs! I have been dealing with more than one case with singers that think to be a mezzo, but instead, they would be making a great career as alto! Once you know with certainty and confidence what is your range and timbre, you can direct your energy to the right kind of repertoire. This is very important especially for those who want to pursue singing at a professional level. You don't need to waste your time, money and energy in the wrong repertoire. For example, if you are a soprano leggero, you don't want to sing R.Wagner or G.Verdi. Other important aspects to consider include the following: * Enlarging your voice range in order to get your instrument more complete without forcing your voice and breathing according to the music phrase * Pitch control without the use of too much vibrato (I am not against it, but I am when the vibrato compromises the pitch.) * Clarity in the speed * Projection of your voice (The projection of your voice might sound great in the music studio, but would that be the same if you sing at the met?)

About

If you are currently singing and want to go to the next level, I have the tools and the experience to help you. I am an active professional singer but I really enjoy helping others with the many things I have learned during my career. There are no secrets, magic pills, or even magic teachers! It is a 50-50 working relationship between the student and the teacher, and both must be dedicated and determined to improve. I am dedicated to the art of singing, and will always give you honest feedback, which is what you need to grow. See below for a brief statement about myself and my teaching, and thank you for your time. Voice teacher Sean F. has been teaching voice students for 10 years, and 6 years in New York City. Known as an exciting and dynamic performer and teacher, he inspires his students with a creative and custom-made lesson plan to fit each student. More importantly than that, Sean is a current and active professional singer who has sung all musical styles throughout the US and on three continents! Therefore his students receive all of the benefits of having an active working singer as their mentor. Whether you're a beginner, a high school or a college student, or just want to learn to sing a little better for your personal enjoyment, try a lesson, I can help you improve. Most recent studio news: after taking just 2 lessons with Sean, a young man was accepted into the prestigious La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts! His mother said "we owe it all to your teaching!" Other students have gone on to professional singing in NYC and elsewhere, in churches, professional choruses, and weddings. Lesson Details I have been a professional singer for 15 years, and I have sung a variety of styles from classical, to pop, to Broadway. My specialty and career is classical, but I feel comfortable helping in the other styles I mentioned also. I share all the useful tips and techniques I've learned from my own experiences with my students. I also use a series of exercises and invent others to best suit each student. I believe that There isn't just ONE way to teach everybody, because each person is unique, both physically and emotionally. I can personally guarantee that if you are serious about learning to sing better and devote your attention to this art, that positive results and improvement will be yours! Thank you for your interest and best of luck to you in your singing, NewYorkVoiceTeacher

Each new student comes to me with a distinctive background, interests, goals, and voice! I customize private lessons to my student's individual needs, concentrating on both artistic growth and technique. I work with all levels and all ages, from beginners to professionals. I am a trained vocal technician with knowledge of all voice types. I offer extremely affordable rates. I have a thorough understanding of the actor's process and up-to-date industry connections and knowledge. There's no need to hire an accompanist! I am a pianist as well. I have a full library of music. Learn to sing with ease; I am letting you connect to the text of your music. I hone the skills that will increase your ability to do your best work without a coach or teacher, and ones that will heighten your awareness! Work on the material that is appropriate to your personality and voice type. Below are my clients' reviews: "I had never really connected with a voice teacher until I met Anna. I feel, for the first time, like someone is speaking my language. I understand my voice now as my own, instead of what a teacher tells me I should sound like, or trying to fit into a sound or measure up to an idea in my head. It feels like I'm uncovering the voice that I have inside, but have never heard until now. Lessons are engaging, and challenging, and they are a partnership from beginning to end!" - Hannah Sloat, Equity Actress (Soprano), "War Horse" Lincoln Center, Bushwick Shakespeare Repertory, Artspower "I've been studying voice with Anna Winthrop for two years now, and she is unlike any vocal teacher I've ever worked with. Her approach is unique and individualized to my specific vocal needs, and she knows how to explain proper vocal technique in a way that is clear and totally accessible. Under her tutelage, my voice has improved dramatically, and I'm now able to take on songs that previously would have been too difficult. Anna has given me great repertoire suggestions, and has also shared endless words of wisdom in regards to the audition process and the business of acting as well. As a person, she is enthusiastic, supportive, and selfless, and her personality makes the process that much more enjoyable! Anna has taught me how to be more expressive vocally and how to belt effortlessly and with flawless technique. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone, regardless of the musical style he or she specializes in, looking to improve his or her voice and technique!" - Elizabeth Wharton, Actress, Soprano, Mix, and High Belt, Artspower, :Yearbook: A Highschool Musical" (Off-Broadway) "My experience with Anna has been so incredible. She has helped me prepare for auditions, expertly gifting me with technique, breath, tone, relaxation, ease, and sculpting a dynamic performance arc out of the material. She specifically addresses the needs of the modern musical theatre actor, and has helped me to become more agile and versatile, allowing me to sing in a myriad of styles often within the same show or even song. Anna pulls from an amazing education and life of experience onstage to help her students achieve grace amidst the pressure, tumult, and joy of modern theater. All of these are offered in a gorgeous studio for an insanely affordable price!" - Wade McCollum, Equity and SAG Actor and Bari-Tenor, "Jersey Boys" (Norm, San Francisco and Chicago Company), "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (Hedwig - LA Ovation Award, Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Award, Backstage West Garland Award), "Bat Boy the Musical" (Bat Boy), and "Cabaret" (Emcee) "Anna Winthrop is a phenomenal teacher. Her strength lies in her technical articulateness, combined with her understanding and patience for my process as a student. I always feel comfortable with her, especially since I know that she is a working actress and singer herself. She knows how to incorporate instruction on relieving tension, acting a song, and having fun; basically, you name it, and she knows how to do it! Anna puts me at ease even when I am cracking, yet I trust her to tell me the truth when I need it. I recommend her ten times over." - Crystal Boyd, Actress, Soprano, Mix, and Belt, Featured: Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, PBS "I thought I knew how to sing before I began lessons with Anna. I had been singing my whole life, but had never been formally trained. I figured I had a lot to learn, but I didn't realize the scope and breadth of what I didn't know. Anna possesses a very comforting ability to communicate both the abstract and practical, physical yet difficult to grasp concepts involved in singing properly, and she does so with an ease and personal touch that allow the student to completely relax and focus on the task at hand. She's completely renovated the way I produce sound, and in the process, she has given me a renewed confidence and determination to put into practice the techniques I've learned from her. It's a wonderful feeling to know I've found someone I can constantly return to to gently remind me to not fall back into my old bad habits." - Rick Cekovsky, SAG Actor and Baritone, Tisch, RADA, Midtown Theater Festival, Hudson Shakespeare Co., "Fools and Lovers" (Off-Broadway) "Anna Winthrop is a rare find of a voice teacher. Her instruction is clear and specific, and she follows exercises with an explanation of how they effect the vocal mechanism. She is a great champion of her students, combining her technical expertise with her performance experience. I have always found her to be helpful and accommodating, and she is happy to direct her students to good technique and great performance." - Brady Amoonclark, Actress and Mezzo-Soprano, NY Artists Unlimited, Penguin Repertory, Bare Shakespeare "After having a vascular polyp removed from my vocal cord, I started studying with Anna four years ago. With her great passion for teaching proper technique, she gave me confidence and had me singing stronger than ever. Anna also has a gentle heart and makes me feel comfortable, allowing me to truly enjoy getting to the next level in my singing journey." - Keith Freer, Lyric Baritone "I find voice lessons with Anna both deeply enjoyable and thorough. She's great with technique and doesn't let you off the hook easily! At the same time, she makes sure that there is enough time to enjoy the songs you are working on, while giving you very to-the-point feedback. She is highly focused (and fun) and definitely put me on the road to viewing my voice as a professional instrument." - Emma Blijdenstein, Coloratura Soprano "I can't recommend Anna highly enough. She has a solid, comprehensive technical background, combined with a fun delivery. Anna has led me forward, enabling me to make consistent progress over my two years of studying with her." - Matt Dundas, Tenor, Singer and Songwriter "The first criterion in anyone's mind when looking for an instructor is technical prowess, yet most people neglect the fact that all the skills and knowledge in the world come to nothing without the ability to convey it. Anna, apart from being exceptionally versed in the vocal arts, is such a flexible and adaptive communicator that she could teach tone-deaf, 2 year olds to sing operatically. Emphatic testimony aside, she's fun, lively and easygoing; She is an instructor with an a-plus grade!" - Ilya Chernyatyev, Tenor

About

My life has always been about entertainment and singing. Starting at the age of six, I developed both stage and vocal skills as an entertainer and singer on the TV program ‘The Howdy Doody Hour’ in New York City. The show was one of TV’s first and longest-running children’s entertainment series. I was also a regular on two other children’s shows: “Giant Tiger” out of Cleveland, OH and “Happy’s Party” out of Pittsburgh, PA. My high school and college years were spent studying vocal performance. While continuing my BFA from Carnegie Mellon, I was awarded three Carnegie awards: one in piano and two in voice for ‘Outstanding Performance in a Competition’. Upon graduation, I was awarded a teaching fellowship towards my master’s degree, and in the early 70s, I was one of the 'Outstanding Young Women of America' publication (listed under Judy Zabetakis). From the late 70s to the early 80s, I immersed myself in the pure form of the Belcanto technique methodology in Germany. It was at this time that my concert career in Austria, Germany, and Spain flourished. It is this pure form of the Belcanto technique that is the basis of my teaching, as the voice building aspect of it significantly increases range within weeks and heals abused voices. As a teacher for more than 38 years, my students have performed all over the world as band members or solo artists in cabaret clubs, dance clubs, radio stations, TV and musical theater. Currently, one of my students, Bridget Barkan, is touring with the Scissor Sisters. Two other students who have given me the rights to mention them are Q-Tip and Dan McBride of Thirteen Hands. Q-Tip was a member of the critically honored group, “A Tribe Called Quest”, and is more recently engaged in solo work and also with his jazz-influenced hip hop group. Dan McBride was selected for the ballot by The National Academy of Recording Artists for the 2006 Grammy Awards for both ‘Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist’ and ‘Best Male Pop Performance’. My classes and lessons are granted accreditation by New York University’s “Gallatin School of Individualized Study”. Please let me know during our initial phone conversation if you have interest in this feature. These following styles are taught: RnB, pop, jazz, rock, metal, hip hop, standards, Broadway and alternative. Please visit my website for more information. On my website, you should click on the 'contact' section, and send me an email as I would love to hear from you. If you prefer to call, please do so. All calls will be returned on the weekend or shorter if possible. Thank you.

About

I believe that anyone can be taught to sing! Come and let me teach you how to sing with a healthy and open sound. I start with a classical foundation and build a voice from the ground up. The first 1/2 - 3/4 of each lesson is spent warming up and doing strength building and stretching exercises for your vocal chords, of course! While the last part is typically spent on repertoire, I like to refer to my lessons as personal training for the vocal chords. I will work with any age, except that lessons for children under the age of 12 are modified to be more of a vocal coaching and musicality class than a voice lesson. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

About

I provide vocal instruction for serious, career-minded individuals who wish to study the art of singing. Voice lessons are one hour in length and the material learned is extensive. Students will not only improve their tonal quality, range and vocal flexibility, they will also learn how their "instrument" works, better breathing, why and when to do certain exercises; in addition to classical knowledge and understanding of the voice, diaphragm and vocal chords, ear training, and much more. This seems like a lot, but it will enable the students to gain complete control of their voice and eventually be able to maintain their own voice without ever needing a vocal coach or voice instructor again. Lessons also consist of applying technical work to any genre of music that the student is interested in. Students are encouraged to try several different genres to be well-rounded, and to enhance creativity and possibly songwriting skills. Find your best voice with high quality vocal instruction. About

I offer more than singing lessons. My students here in New York City as well as Connecticut learn vocal technique and vocal performance, not just singing—anyone can sing. For the advanced students, I also provide repertoire management, specialized and focused vocal performance work on repertoire and audition preparation. I was trained in Bel Canto (often used by opera singers) and Linklater and am a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA. My students learn that singing should never hurt. It should be like a massage to the soul, the art of “getting out of your body’s way” in both breathing and sound production. Combining the Bel Canto style with Linklater technique, my system is beneficial to both the speaking and singing voices. What makes my studio different is that I take the time to teach my students about the vocal mechanisms—the muscles surrounding the larynx and how to protect, relax, and strengthen them—and how to move effortlessly from one vocal timbre to another it are standalone and unique for a long healthy career. Many of my students are working performers who come not only for vocal lessons but for focused work for their callbacks and auditions as well. My rates are reasonable and begin at $55.00 per hour. Multi-lesson packages are available.
