About Me I'm Larcy, a full-time songwriter, recording artist and vocal coach in the Lower East Side. I specialize in teaching proper vocal/breathing techniques, pop songwriting, and recording. I have a full- time career as a songwriter and recording artist. I've written for BRAVO, Universal Republic, Cr2 records, and major label-signed artists and am extremely knowledgeable in the music industry, so I am more than happy to provide you with any advice! Experience I have experience teaching children ages 5 and beyond as well as adults. I specialize in pop, indie, RnB, and electronic music but am open to all genres. I'm a great instructor for beginning to intermediate artists (and children) who are interested in developing their sound. Specialties Throughout my work in the industry, I've found that many vocalists don't properly warm up their voice, which can lead to straining and potential health issues (vocal nodules). We will focus on everything, from posture and breathing to range and support improvement, ear-training skills, finding your head voice/chest voice (and how to switch between the two), and all other skills needed to maximize your intelligent use of your voice as a musical instrument. If you're interested in taking lessons with me, please send me a message on your experience level and future goals, and we can decide together if I would be a good fit for you. I have a home studio in my LES apartment but am also able to come to you. Thanks! Larcy

Juliet Sky Cappelletti taught piano and sang in rock bands as she worked hard to receive high honors at George Washington University in D.C., accomplishing her degrees of B.A. in music/drama then master of music in music composition. Next, she received her diploma in songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston with principal instruments, piano and voice. Sky became an accomplished live and studio performer, playing live in New York City and publishing two CDs which were well-received. Sky moved to Nashville where she became a mommy, piano teacher and studio musician. While still writing and recording, being a super mom is Sky's highest priority, so she, her husband and daughter currently reside here in Largo. Especially experienced with children and young teens, though she has also taught elderly adults and all kinds of people, Sky is selective about finding the most promising piano, guitar, vocalist and even singer/songwriter students with whom she can open up and share her extreme expertise, experience and talent. Please send an e-mail if you have dreams of expressing yourself through music, and you need a little help to achieve your goal! Also, feel free to call for a few reminder lessons or some specific style or technique help. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Sky

  • Hilary Bucell Vocal Studio

    (4 reviews)

Hilary A. Bucell Vocal Studio is a private vocal studio located in New York City specializing in novice through advanced vocal technique and vocal styles ranging from jazz, pop, folk, musical theater, opera, and contemporary. ------------------------- I truly believe everyone can sing. Singing is one of my life’s greatest joys, and teaching others how to use their unique instrument only adds to the beauty it brings me. My goal as a teacher is to always encourage and help my students find their voice-- to sing with a free and natural vocal production, and to find an artistry and sound that is all their own. I understand that every voice is different and presents a unique set of qualities, strengths and challenges. Vocal training must be individualized to meet the specific needs of each student. In lessons, we will work toward your goals-- whether they are to prepare for an audition or performance, to sing clearer high notes, to build stamina, to improve pitch and intonation, or simply to sing or speak without strain or stress. There are no gimmicks or magic tricks that can make you sing better. Instead, hard work and an understanding of how to use your instrument, along with a healthy dose of patience and humor, will allow you to realize your fullest potential, and become your best artist. Since the body is the singer’s instrument, I feel it is crucial to incorporate the entire body into one’s singing rather than just focusing solely on the vocal mechanism. I have extensive experience with yoga, dance, and body awareness techniques such as Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique which I incorporate into all of my lessons. Of course, as a classically trained soprano, I also base much of my vocal technique and exercises on the “bel canto” approach to vocal production. This means that I place a significant amount of importance on resonance, registration, vowel formation, and use of articulators and breath within my teaching. Understanding the workings of the voice and body enforce and support a healthy vocal production and vocal longevity. I believe that having a solid technical foundation is essential to being a successful singer in any genre-- whether it be pop, jazz, country, folk, musical theater, or classical. My ultimate goal is to always promote a healthy vocal production within my students, in any style or genre of singing. And, although hard work, I first and foremost always want singing to remain a source of joy for each of those I work with. I have been teaching voice and piano for over 7 years. I hold both a Masters of Music from Temple University and a Bachelors of Music from Ithaca College, magna cum laude, in Vocal Performance. I teach out of my apartment in downtown Manhattan and in studio spaces throughout New York City. I offer discounts for both students and multiple advanced lesson bookings. Please contact me to find out more about scheduling and rates! I would be honored to sing with you soon-

  • Music Lessons

Learn the music you love! I offer piano lessons for beginners through advanced. I teach all ages. I offer traditional teaching with the reading of the main two clefs (bass and treble), music theory, immediate approach to the keyboard, immediate exercise that develop the presence of your fingers in the keyboard as well as the strength and speed of your fingers. Start to play your favorite music from the very first lesson! Learning piano includes the following: * ear training * sight reading * music harmony * improvisational skills * knowledge of music history * counterpoint * technical mastery (note by note passage at every speed, octaves, double thirds, trills, arpeggios, scales, etc.) Technical mastery is not limited to the above. I also offer mastery of touch (how to approach the keyboard for a legato, articulate touch and semi-legato) and mastery of phrasing. The music phrase is different, depending on the composer and the period when the music was composed. I have complete command of knowledge from Bach to Broadway songs. Piano lessons are available also in a more easy-going way of learning which is reading only with the treble clef with the complete understanding of the chord symbols. This style of learning is definitely for jazz standards, Broadway and pop music. I offer singing lessons or vocal coaching for pop singers. The philosophy of my teaching here is based on the music that you want to learn. I don't do yoga lessons or relaxation lessons. I do start from the music. From the phrasing, you'll know where to breath. From the music, you'll know what kind of voice timbre to use (you don't sing a Broadway aria like a Beatles song). From the music, you'll learn the text by memory, understanding what kind of expression to use according to the meaning of the text itself. Warming up of the voice is essential for successful learning. I resume it in two essential points which are as follows: * Knowledge of your vocal range without trying to stretch where your voice can't arrive and will never arrive (find the beauty of your real voice) * Blending of lower middle and high range I offer performance opportunities for the most talented. I also offer vocal coaching for classical and opera singers. Identify from the beginning the timbre of your voice as well as your voice range. Some unlucky students have been convinced to belong to a voice range that is not theirs! I have been dealing with more than one case with singers that think to be a mezzo, but instead, they would be making a great career as alto! Once you know with certainty and confidence what is your range and timbre, you can direct your energy to the right kind of repertoire. This is very important especially for those who want to pursue singing at a professional level. You don't need to waste your time, money and energy in the wrong repertoire. For example, if you are a soprano leggero, you don't want to sing R.Wagner or G.Verdi. Other important aspects to consider include the following: * Enlarging your voice range in order to get your instrument more complete without forcing your voice and breathing according to the music phrase * Pitch control without the use of too much vibrato (I am not against it, but I am when the vibrato compromises the pitch.) * Clarity in the speed * Projection of your voice (The projection of your voice might sound great in the music studio, but would that be the same if you sing at the met?)

International School in New York City. After graduating from a Japanese junior high school, he received lessons and guidance from Dr. Sage. Based on my son' s experience, improvement, and knowledge, I can recommend the professor as an expert in this mode of instruction. Mr. Yoichiro Suzuki Executive Vice President Nissei BOT Asset Management Corporation A letter from a client: Since Chinese is my native language, I often need help with my English. When I joined the faculty at New York University in 2002, I was looking for someone who could assist me to prepare my lecture presentations and proofread my research manuscripts. I contacted the NYU Department of English and was suggested to get in touch with Dr. Howard Sage, who had extensive experience in teaching foreign students English as second language on campus. After I spoke with Dr. Sage, he was able to set up our weekly-meeting promptly. Furthermore, Dr. Sage was able to devise the curriculum that helped me improve my lecture preparation and presentation skills. I have benefited tremendously from his teaching. In addition, Dr. Sage also provided proofreading services for my research manuscripts which have been published in peer-reviewed journals. I strongly recommend Dr. Sage's service to anyone who might need help. Dr. Yihong Lee Professor, NYU Dental School An undergraduate student's perspective: Dr. Sage's writing service has helped me to shape up my essays for admissions processes. In addition, it has presented me with many impressive techniques for expressing thoughts and emotions. Through this writing service I have acquired many intuitive mechanisms of communicating my personality to admission staff members. Jennifer Feng Student, State University of New York at Stony Brook An administrator states the following: As an adminstrator, I am required to write and often find myself overwhelmed by the task. Dr. Sage's guidance, direction and structure opened up the ceiling for me not only to envision expression and creativity in my writing but to inspire excitement to continue, evolve and get better with practice. Dr. Sage helped me with the foundation, which in my opinion is the most important step -- a training session I highly recommend for those wanting to grow. School of Acoustics

(1 review)

Starting a career in music is made fun and inspiring when you enroll at Darrell Payne's School of Acoustics. They help music enthusiasts of any skill level develop into the artist whom they aspired to be.

Darrell understands and experiences the struggles of being talented with less means for development. This inspired him to put up a school with a budget-friendly cost yet quality training programs.

I wanted to create an outlet for people to study music on a college level without charging them college tuition.

One of Darrell's career milestones was during the first founding anniversary of the School of Acoustics where they organized a music workshop. They were able to obtain a reduced price for their venue where the participants had fun and went home with a clearer vision of who and what they wanted to be.

The most effective way to keep my customers happy and satisfied with my services is to give them what they ask for, as well as what they didn't know they needed and wanted.

Darrell guarantees that every learner gets the training he/she deserves and needs. Whether it is to hone their vocal prowess or develop their performances, he and the professional teachers of School of Acoustics provide definite results.
