They come 8 am in the morning as I required and finished our moving by 10:30am. Super efficient service and well done of the job! Their flat rate is something I really like, and sure I will give them a call again.

I had a really excellent experience with Dyno Moving. I was moving to a 5th Fl walk-up and the crew was extremely professional, fast, and careful with my things. Plus, the move was super reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend Dyno Moving and will use them again the next time I move.

SEKA movers succeeded in fulfilling a last-minute request of one day prior to the day of the move and ensured that the all my furniture will be wrapped with pads and moved out of my home at a reasonable rate. They arrived within the time frame, since I was holding the parking spot for them, Alex an Dima relocated my items in an efficient and careful manner. I was very pleased with their professionalism and dependability. I have recommended them to others and hope they will be as happy as I was with the level of service provided. Keep up the excellent work!

Eric, Luis, and Ashton were the BEST movers I've ever worked with. They arrived about 20 mins earlier than the expected window (which was great), and got to work right away. They had to deal with brutal heat (in the 90s) and a set of stairs in front of the building and another flight of stairs to the apartment I was moving out of. They smiled and had a great attitude throughout - my stress level was virtually zero. They arrived only about 10 minutes after me at the second location (my childhood home) to move everything into my parents' basement for storage, and again, worked efficiently and with smiles the whole time. I was melting under the heat, and these guys were just trucking along - amazing! My mom even commented that Eric, Luis, and Ashton were the sweetest guys. She provided iced water and OJ, which they really appreciated. I absolutely plan on hiring this awesome threesome for my next move in October when I finally get the keys to my new Williamsburg condo (which has an elevator, thank god!). A shout-out to Dave as well who I corresponded with before and after the move. Polite and responsive. The price quoted was EXTREMELY fair, and I will 110% hire Fair Price Movers again. Dave - Just want to make sure I work with Eric, Luis, and Ashton. Thank you so much!

Like others i am also going to give 5 stars and a good review to this moving company because they really earned. When you move your home using a moving company it means you are relying on them and giving your trust to that company. I have moved 5 times before moving with Great Movers and all went with small losses to me. Like scratches on my furniture or a broken leg of table etc and therefore each time i hired different moving company. But for the first time i experienced a completely relaxed and stress free move. I wonder why didn't i find these guys before in my life. You can trust them blindly they are professional, fast and most importantly they are honest. They don't have hidden charges. In fact they will completely describe you about everything before your move. But astonishingly they provide such an excellent service at very low cost. Use Great Movers, no doubt that they will make your day.

I hired CCS Moving to move my stuff from Downtown Manhattan to Jersey City!! The men were really good and worked very hard. It is easy to find bad things to say when you hire a moving company. But all around CCS Moving & Storage was professional throughout my moving process. The movers were all very experienced. They were no glitches anywhere, when they delivered my stuff. I just wanted also to thank the sales representative for giving me a right quote. I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to my friends!! Very pleasant experience!!

I had two pieces of furniture assembled yesterday and they showed up on time, did an awesome job and went over and above to assist me with moving my things, as at 8 and a half months pregnant I can't do any heavy lifting. Amazing! And I probably will use them again.

Bertie was great! The person that worked along side him, Travis, was also great! They were on time, and super professional. They did everything - my husband and I barely had to lift a finger. I also booked Bertie the day before at like 5pm. He was there for me at such short notice and I’m so grateful! Attached is a photo of my MONSTER king size bed that they moved into my home (I’m on a 3rd floor walk-up and they did it with ease!). I will definitely be using Bertie’s services again and everyone else should too!

We recently hired Ample moving when my boyfriend and I moved apartments. They were so awesome! Not only was it convenient to book and set up (the price was also great!), but on moving day, the crew arrived on time, treated our belongings with care, and made the whole process go so smoothly for us. Moving is such a stressful experience, and I'm sure everyone has friends and family that are willing to help, but honestly, do yourself a favor and hire a great moving company like Ample that is professional, hard-working, and takes the worry completely out of the process. I highly recommend this company to anyone. Thank you Ample Moving for a job well done!

Brian was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was very professional, returned all my calls/texts, showed up promptly with his crew on the scheduled date of my move and did the whole move in record time. Brian also negotiated with me a fair price for the entire job. The Crew also were courteous, professional & easy to work with. Queens Junk Removal & Moving went beyond my expectations & completed everything in a very short time giving me the rest of the afternoon to clean, sort everything into its proper place & going out for errands. I would highly recommend this company for Moving as well as disposal of unwanted items. They were great! Thanks so much, Carole R. Brooklyn, NY

3 Brothers were the most responsive of all the companies I contacted. Moving is stressful enough & they made it so easy to get through. I had to move in to storage for awhile and they were so helpful in planning & making suggestions for things I had not thought about. When my apartment is ready 3 Brothers will be my first call to move me in to my home!! Professional & just the nicest guys!

I waited until the last minute to plan my move (days before), and Moved help me figure out everything from clothing donations to negotiating a great price on quality movers. This was also my first time using movers and my Moved moving assistant, Erin, was able to answer all of my questions about the process. Truly all I had to do was download the app, tell them what I needed and they made it happen. App is also very easy. Overall great and would definitely use them again/recommend to others stressed about a move!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
