    Hodges Music Instruction

Some qualities that matter to me are reliability (I will not flake out on lessons), professionalism (I will not be under any influence or use explicit language), and openness to the student's interests. Regarding the latter, I'm not going to teach my favorite songs, or even songs I know well, to students just because it's easier. I'd rather engage a student through the music that speaks to them. Seeing students succeed. Every lesson where a student "gets it" after a long struggle, such as with a musical concept or a physical obstacle on the instrument, is a reward for both of us.

    Richard Conant

For as many students as I have, I have that many approaches to teaching. Every student learns his or her instrument at a different pace. Some learn audibly. Some learn visually. Some learn using a mix of the two. My responsibility is to figure how their brains process data and proceed accordingly, so that they can make music as soon as possible. The look on a student's face when he or she makes music for the very first time.

Not every performer can instruct. Not every instructor can perform. I've been performing since middle school (earlier if you count church choir) and engaged the music theater and dinner theater world professionally and semi-professionally for several years. I've performed solo and with bands for audiences of thousands, as well as small gatherings, receptions, congregations, weddings, and a host of other venues. I've also invested the time, energy and expense in learning not only the crafts of vocal performance, leading, playing, and the like, but - particularly in the area of voice - the I've learned best practices for optimal, healthy singing for a lifetime. That includes learning all about the *vocal instrument*, how it all works together physically, mentally, and emotionally. And, my students tell me over and over, I have the ability to communicate these vital pieces of information effectively so that you can begin learning the craft or creating powerful, positive changes to your voice, performances, and communication from your very first lesson. I truly love helping people define and then reach their goals with music. I also love bringing people to the point at which they can lose themselves in their music, while not losing the music, in terms of pitch, communication or strength. And I love to watch people grow in confidence as they grow as musicians. I also love and appreciate the opportunities to get to practice, rehearse, and sing with my students on occasion. That's a joy that keeps me in the game, too, while we're achieving their goals.

  • Cap City Piano and Voice

    (20 reviews)

I provide one-on-one piano and vocal instruction in my home studio. I accept piano students age 6 to adult and voice students age 13 to adult. I have been playing piano and singing my whole life and have been teaching for almost 20 years. I challenge myself to find the best way of teaching for each individual student. I am not tied to a particular method. Rather, I let the way in which each student learns guide my teaching. I love working with young people because they are so eager and energetic about how they approach music. And I love working with adults because they are so curious and I can throw lots of information at them to help them find their way to the music they want to make.

  • Jimmy Hudson Guitar Studio

    (16 reviews)

I am a professional guitarist from Memphis TN, recently relocated to Columbus. I am an Honors Graduate of The Atlanta Institute of Music where I studied under the Great Jimmy Herring amongst others. I also was Shawn Lane's Guitar Tech and student for 8 years. My professional career as a guitarist began at the age of 14 when I was taken under the wing of Ben Cauley (Barkays, Otis Redding) and did a number of shows and tours with him and many other bands and have played with, sat in with or appeared on the same bill as The Barkays, Jim Dandy, Black Oak Arkansas, Shawn Lane, Jeff Sipe, Jonas Helborg, Gretchen Wilson, Zach Myers of Shinedown, Zac Brown Band, Copper Hollow, Eddie Montgomery, Little Texas, Col Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit, The Great Outdoors, Jimi Jamison, and many others. I am also the founder and former owner of The World Renowned American Guitar Institute in Memphis where my students have been featured on David Letterman, Jay Leno, and national radio. I also spent many years working as a session guitarist in numerous studios in Memphis and Nashville. What you get with me is years of hands on, professional experience and education that you simply will not get anywhere else. I specialize in people who already play and have found themselves stuck in a rut and do not know where to go from here. I can help you no matter what skill level you are on, including professional. I will also take a serious beginner. All of my lessons are an hour long in my very sweet home recording studio conveniently located off 270 and sawmill rd right across the street from Carmax. We use modern day technology and I have revolutionized the way the guitar is taught by using my 60 inch TV, recording equipment, various apps and programs, and the ipads. I send you the lessons in email while you are here so you can open them up anywhere and with the use of a very cool program you can read the lessons, play the lessons, play along with the lessons, and slow them down on a loop where the tempo increases each time around. This is a very laid back and cool environment where we have fun learning the guitar! I allow a buffer of time between students so that you are not just left confused. My schedule is very accommodating as I live here so I teach just about every day from early afternoon through the evening. If you have to cancel a lesson no problem, just let me know and we can always reschedule. Life happens I understand. The freedom, I play guitar and I don't have a boss, I do what I love. I also really enjoy being able to help others learn the guitar and I love to entertain people! I love people in General and my favorite quote is by Zig Ziglar "You can get anything you desire in life if you just help enough other people get what they desire".

  • MERRY FINGERS

    (13 reviews)

Several of my piano students have gone on perform publicly, with a couple of them becoming national and international musicians, composers and music leaders. The merryfingers website is a very safe site. Thank you. I love seeing my student's confidence boosted when he/she masters a piece they had been working on diligently. Their face beams and my heart warms--every time!

  • Worthington Music

    (12 reviews)

My background and time spent as a music teacher allow me to help students at all levels, from first timers to advanced. With beginners, one of the first goals is to play something easy and fun. Music has three parts, melody, harmony and rhythm. Most folks get a kick out of playing something recognizable, the melody. I often write and record the harmony and rhythm parts, so we have everything necessary to make music. My students at this time range in age from 6 to 86. Age doesn't matter to me.

  • Noteworthy Music

    (9 reviews)

Noteworthy Music uses instructors with a Bachelor's degree in music or higher for lessons. This means all of our teachers have the musical and professional training needed to provide high quality lessons taking each student to the next level, or allowing students to experience and enjoy music as a past time. We also offer recitals for Noteworthy students every 6 months and are actively involved in the central Ohio community by providing group lessons, aftercare lesson options, and volunteering with students and schools that need a little help. I love getting my students ready for their recitals every 6 months. The recital itself is really great because it shows each student what they can achieve and what their peers are achieving at the same time. I also really enjoy when students "get it" and really start to blossom as young musicians.

Tony connected us with Coverstone band. They were impeccable and our group loved them. The desired effect was amazing so we're so appreciative. Tony had a great attitude and when we encountered an obstacle with the venue the event was held at - Tony brainstormed a quick solution for us. It meant a lot to our team that he took care of us to ensure our entertainment was locked in! (Thanks, Tony!)
