Wes stepped in when our small business was contracted to set up three high-tech classrooms on a US Navy contract. The client changed their requirements after the hardware buy and insisted 110 new laptops be configured to dual boot XP and Win7, which the manufacturer said was impossible. Wes developed, tested, and fielded a solution within two days, well ahead of our deadline, and charged a very reasonable price. He saved our company at least $5k in consulting fees, or $86k if we had to replace the hardware.

Ted reviewed, edited, and made suggested revisions to my 94000 word novel. Ted is a very experienced editor. He not only caught the usual misspellings and grammatical mistakes, but revealed the proper usage of words, and insight into the different meanings of words and offered suggestions in re-phrasing. He also found where my descriptions were awkward or not accurate, and suggested better, more plausable descriptions. I was extremely impressed with his knowledge and expertise. For any writer, I would highly recommend this man for the final edit of your novel or manuscript. I rate my experience with Ted as outstanding.

Hi Pat, Just wanted to take time out to thank you for what you have accomplished in our first month or so. You designed and implemented our first web site ALONG WITH driving traffic to it. And did it very quickly at a reasonable price. We have already received our first phone calls, and closed our first sale to come directly from the site. These are the results that count to me as a small business owner. Not fancy sites or reports that talk about "touches" and number of contacts, but a process that gets the phone ringing from customers ready to buy something!. Thanks, Don Childress Sherwood Group, INC

I have worked closely with this LLC many times in the past. The reason is, I keep coming back for more. They are professional, timely, and are obviously knowledgeable. They have designed multiple websites and edited documents to give me the most professional, clean solution. They are also courteous and willing to work with any last minute changes you and/or your clients throw at you (eg: a full redesign to remove gradience and follow a completely different color scheme). I give them 5/5, will do business again.

It was a pure joy working with Nicole. She is very professional in business and presentation. She provided just the sound and personalities that we needed for the upscale event. She was able to incorporate the diferent types of music that we discussed in planning. Everyone was pleased with the music, vocal and instrumental, and her personality was uplifting and inspirational. We are looking forward to another opportunity to work with this group.

      About

I am a SEO professional that drives my client’s website to receive 1st page results. Search engine optimization (SEO) is key to creating traffic to your website. I can turn a few hundred visitors a month into a few thousands, all targeted to specific buying keywords. Targeting people looking for your product or service dramatically increases RFP’s and inbound leads. Search engine optimization is the process in which your website is indexed in Google for specific keywords. Moving my clients to the top of the list is the main goal. You are not charged on a pay-per-click campaign, but a competitive base fee. SEO is a sound investment that is more affordable and can be more effective than hiring a new sales person.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

      • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
      • Strong writing skills.
      • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
      • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
      • Expertise in your target area.
      • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

      • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
      • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
