Glenn put in bamboo flooring throughout my kitchen, dining room, living room, entryway and hallway. My house is pretty skewy, and it was difficult to get the boards straight, but Glen persevered (even to the point of taking out the boards he put down the first day and starting over the second day to get it just right). My floors look beautiful!! Glenn does excellent work. He is very personable and easy to talk to. It says a lot when he takes as much pride in his work as getting the work done. I will definitely have him do more work for me.

I was very impressed with the rapid response to my request for help with my project. Zeev called right away and came to my house the very next day to assess the damage done by birds that had pecked through the mesh covering the vents under the eaves of the roof and were pulling insulation out of the attic. He was on the job a few days later and within a few hours had all the vents recovered and eliminated my bird issue. He was very professional and very reasonable. I will definitely be calling him again.

I hired Corey because he was willing to come out and give me a quote in a timely manner . His price was more than fair and he did an amazing job on 6 rooms and a hallway that totaled about 1300 sq. ft. of laminet flooring .His work ethic speaks for itself. He was on time and focused and ready to go . One other thing I would like to share is ,I was at ease with him right away .I know we have to be so careful now a days with who we allow in our homes but , as my husband and I had to be away working our own jobs we trusted Corey and I'm happy to say everything worked out fine . Our two pups took to him as well . I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again . Great job!

I had a great experience working with Daniel. He laid laminate flooring in three rooms and covered a set of my stairs in laminate too. Bidding and Planning: Daniel was thoughtful, responsive, and patient through the planning and decisioning process. He worked hard to understand my needs and budget and made excellent suggestions on products I should consider. Scheduling and Working: Daniel gave me options and worked to fit my job into his work schedule. Overall, he was very timely. Once when Daniel was running late, he texted to tell me. I felt very comfortable with Daniel in my home. He kept careful track of accounting for materials and handled my money with care. Daniel was thorough in his work. He carefully removed baseboard molding, removed carpet, hauled carpet away, purchased sub-flooring, installed sub-flooring, installed laminate flooring, reinstalled baseboards, re-caulked baseboards (they looked perfect), covered my stairs with laminate, and installed a metal nose on my stairs. Finishing the Job: Daniel cleaned up after himself along the way. He also cleaned thoroughly when the job was complete. I was very impressed with Daniel's commitment to making things right. An example of this was my hinged closet-style door. The door was carefully removed before work began. The last task Daniel completed was reinstalling that tough door. Because the flooring underneath the door had changed in both style and height, the door needed to be readjusted. Daniel made the necessary adjustments, but the old door with its aging tracks and hardware were stubborn. It would have been easy for Daniel to shortcut that door reinstallation, but he stayed longer that he expected to make sure the door worked well. That door works better for me now than it ever has. I rate Daniel as both excellent work-quality and an excellent overall value. I will likely have him install new countertops for me soon.

Elevate Floor Company is the greatest! I interviewed several companies but was most impressed with Petru's references and professionalism. He did an amazing job on installing our new wood flooring throughout our home. As a Project Manager for a large Public Agency for many years my job to; solicit bids, award projects and work through all phases of the project through final acceptance. Petru is a very detailed person and takes great pride in the work he does. I rate this company easily with 5 stars. Jerry D. Burgess Beaverton, OR.

As a general contractor I had worked with many teams during the last 15 years - it is hard to find a team like Oscar Tile LLC. The terms are a critical in our job, it is very frustrating when a team is dropping you down. Oscar Tile LLC are the one to really on. They do what they promise. There are not too many companies which I can recommend without reserves - Oscar Tile LLCis the one of those.

We used Eric and his team for an almost 2.5 month project after moving back into our old house that was rented out for several years. Initially we were only going to use them for external and internal painting and cabinet refinishing, but we quickly found that we liked working with them and appreciated Eric's commitment, his obvious knowledge and attention to detail which led to us hiring them to replace our flooring and other various projects around the house from the shower door installation, carpentry work to smaller electrical work. We lived in the house while Eric's team did the work, which can get pretty overwhelming. They communicated well, respected our privacy and worked with kids nap times, weekend trips, etc. I can honestly say that I could not imagine this project going any better considering the circumstances. We were satisfied with the final product and we found the pricing to be reasonable. We found especially the painting job to be top notch, this is definitely their specialty. Eric also wrapped some beams and accent walls in cedar. Those turned out awesome as well. I highly recommend using those guys for any project, big or small. They have pride in their work and at the end you will not feel taken advantage of, which is too often the case when working with other contractors.

Miguel Hernandez has done a tremendous amount of work for Lents Baptist Church. We still own the parsonage in the expectation that we would someday use it for church activities. The day has not come. In the interim we rent the house out. The house is a four bedroom two bath house. The last renter caused a lot of damage to the house. Miguel was right there to take on the responsibility and work of repairing the house. He washed all the walls, ceilings and floors. He repaired holes in the walls. Then he primed the walls and ceilings. Then he painted them. The floors in the main living areas are hardwood and he sanded, stained and sealed the floors. He laid tile in the bathrooms, kitchen and dining room. He replaced all the interior doors and the front door. New trim was installed between the walls and floor. We had water damage in the entry way to the church. Miguel repaired the walls and then painted the area. All his work was very good.

I just completed a condo remodel for a client in SW Portland. I worked with the client to help her design and project manage the work from start to finish. Part of the process is partnering with General Contractors to undertake the work. This project included a kitchen remodel, (new cabinets, quartz, appliances etc) new flooring and painting throughout. Ben was selected as the contractor to do the work for a variety of reasons. He was responsive, communicated well, his rates were good and he committed to get the work done in just over 3 weeks so they could list the property on the market. Ben worked long hours to achieve this, was flexible throughout the process and listened well. In this case he was managing my expectations and meeting the needs of the client. The work got achieved on time, within budget and the client is very happy with the end result. I would certainly use Ben again on another client project. Thank you!

Ezequiel and Armando responded to our inquiry on a Friday afternoon. They arrived on time. They were very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and honest. They took time to listen our concerns and our needs. They made no promises, but decided to do a small area to see if we were happy with the results. The area looked great and we asked them if they can return the following day to do the whole kitchen. They fit us into their schedule without hesitation. Ezequiel showed up the following morning which was a Saturday and said Armando had a sick child. He got the job done all by himself in less than three hours and again, did a fantastic job and at a reasonable price. The kitchen looks great and now he’s coming back Monday morning to do the last area which is the entrance. Highly recommend these pros! Will hire them again if I ever need any hardwood work.

We had flooring replaced throughout the downstairs. Throughout the process, his attention to detail was noticeable. The subfloor was a disaster but his replacement of it was perfect, no bulges or uneven areas were noted. I have since referred him to family and friends.

Brad and his son did a fantastic job on our floor! They worked hard and finished the job quickly. We are thrilled with the final product! We had a lot of damage to the subfloor due to cat urine and they were able to replace it and eliminate the problem. They also were able to fix the damage to our floor in our closet due to a previous water damage! They went above and beyond for us! Not only that, they were working while it was miserably hot and that didn’t slow them down. Seriously AMAZING job! I would recommend them to anyone that needs flooring work done! I would give them more than 5 stars! Great work!

Brandon was very personable and professional. He was straightforward and honest with his estimates, advice and steered us in the right direction for our remodel project. We first hired him to rip out carpeting and lay a laminate flooring, but later decided to add on a small bathroom remodel. He did all of the work in a timely manner and finished the project in less than a week. We also appreciated that he was available after hours to call or text with questions. His pricing was very reasonable-especially for the quality of work and professionalism provided. I would recommend Rolling Hills Remodeling for similar projects in your home.

Floor looked great. I've had other guys that were much more expensive that didn't do as exceptional a job. They had immediate availability. Very easy to work with. There were a couple things to fix on the baseboards and he is coming back to correct them. I'm hiring him for another job. I will use him again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
