This year I found myself both single and retired. After 40 years of dining out or preparing pre-packaged Diet Food, I was at a loss as to how to cook nutritious, interesting and quick meals for one person.
The delightful Bonnie Ward Strauss - with experience as a caterer, restaurateur, personal chef, and instructor - was eager to show me how easily I could cook a variety of meals for myself that are attractive, tasty and low-calorie. I took notes, creating a cookbook of sorts, filled with Bonnie's directions and hints about the best ingredients, cooking methods, and even grocery shopping. She let me observe sometimes; but also had me standing in front of her stove, making certain I could recreate her dishes in my own kitchen.
Bonnie completely tailored my lessons to what I was hoping to achieve and the cooking skills I had at the time. She also encouraged me to experiment on my own and to look at food in a new way. It is obvious that she loves being a chef, and that she hopes other people will appreciate good food as much as she does.
Bonnie is smart, kind and enthusiastic about cooking. I completely recommend her as an instructor. I also intend to take more classes with her in the very near future.
