Had a very rewarding and satisfying experience with Headspin events !!! Reached out to Lourdes to help us plan the decor for our daughters 2nd birthday and very glad we did that :) Right from coming up with ideas, meeting up, prompt reply to mails and calls... she was very committed and was v clear on what would translate on D Day ! She gave us various options based on the budget we had in mind and worked with us throughout and is very hard working and responsible ! Came up with last minute improvisations and was bang on in getting everything the way we had visualized :):):) It was a very stress free and hassle free experience unlike some we had seen previously! Everyone loved the decor and we got lots of compliments !!! Would definitely recommend Head spin events and will surely look forward to having Lourdes work with us for our future events !!! Biiiig Thank you to Lourdes for making our party all d more special and memorable :):):)

Classique Impressions did a MARVELOUS job decorating for my sisters wedding. After a last minute fiasco from our former decorator, we had already given up the dreams of having an elegant and beautiful hall. But it was just unbelievable the quality of service we got. The linen was so beautiful! The ceiling draping, lighting, centerpieces, backdrop and sweetheart table made everyone go woah! The detailing was amazing! And to imagine that I paid less for a lot more that what others had charged is just unimaginable!  Yes! Yes! Yes! I will recommend Classique 100 times over and over again! I absolutely adored the service i got. You guys will be getting so many referrals from me!!!!!!!   Thank you so much Classique! Queen Souleman

Michele is a very talented and efficient organizer! She not only helped me to clear out truck loads of stuff from my home that had built up over years of military moves, but she brought her skills as a decorator to help me make my place look beautiful. She has many connections in the Newport community with women centers, donations facilities, and consignment stores so it made my home purge more effective and meaningful. Michele also liberated from boxes many beautiful things that I've collected over the years and put them on my walls so I can enjoy the fruits of my travels. She also gave me a special military discount! Finally, Michele did footwork for me by shopping for an office desk, some racks/furniture for my bathroom, a desk chair from Craig's list, and got some very important artwork and photos framed for me. I highly recommend Michele's services to everyone who is looking to simplify and beautify your life!

Kelly was incredible to work with!!! When we first found her on thumbtack, we were just looking for a day of coordinator. Kelly was definitely that, and so much more. As our day came closer and we realized more and more how much we needed help, Kelly stepped up to the plate and provided styling and decorating services as well. She provided the decorations and lighting for a 1500 sq. ft. room, along with day of coordination, for an extremely reasonable price. Moreover, as my new wife and I were trying to figure out what we wanted, we changed our minds over and over. We talked through pricing extensively, and at each step of the process Kelly met us with kindness and professionalism. We trusted her style completely! Our event looked beautiful, we were able to have a ceremony that ran extremely smoothly, and had absolutely nothing to worry about. Not only that, but even when bridal party members had some big ideas, Kelly was our biggest advocate and never batted an eye lash. She was confident and calm at the same time, which is exactly what we needed. Overall, I would hire Kelly again in a heartbeat. She was literally the best. Haven't gotten pics from our photographer yet, but will post them here once I do so you all can see how amazing she is!! Thank you, Kelly!!!!! xoxoxoxoxox D + L

Kimberly provided us paint color and fabric consultation services for our TV room, dinning room and living. She also briefly discussed the entryway, master bedroom and master bath. My wife enjoyed working with Kimberly. Kimberly provided us the information we needed to move forward with updating our rooms. A few days later Kimberly provided us with a detailed written consultation recap with paint colors and names along with decorating ideas. I summary Kimberly provided us what we needed. We would hire her again for future projects.

Julianna came to my home to give me ideas for my living room and master bedroom. She was very thorough with measurements, asking me a lot of questions as to what my tastes were and very knowledgable about making things work. She came back to me within a couple of weeks with 3 different floor plans for both rooms. You could definitely tell she LOVES what she does! She was very informative, and absolutely listened to my feedback. Would definitely hire her again for future remodels!!!

Change is good. However, change is not always easy for some people! Let Linda be the one to make it easy and enjoyable for you! She has helped me transform a family room, a bedroom, a kids office, and she is currently helping me give a facelift to my dining room. When we first met, she took lots of pictures, asked me a ton of questions, and within an hour she had already had a sense for what I liked and didn't like. She is a joy to work with and has made such wonderful changes to our home! If you need a little help with decor or if you're looking for a complete transformation, Linda is the one for you! Since working with Linda, I now look forward to change.

She responds very quickly and seems eager to get to helping. Unfortunately, I didn't end up working with her due to having a decorator prior to reaching out to her (I was trying to get out of the one I had and wasn't able to) but her response has been fast and professional!

We hired Adam/Advanced Production and Design for design/decorating/lighting for our daughter's outdoor tent wedding. I wanted a stately, high end look that was affordable. I presented pictures with my wish list and was looking for direction that would accomplish the look I was going for. Adam's professionalism and experience was apparent from our first correspondence. He guided me towards a design that was absolutely perfect for the look that I wanted to achieve. After receiving the proposal and deciding on the final design I had a 100% confidence that I had the right production company. The look was exactly what I wanted and more. It was the icing on the cake and in between!!! Not only was it absolutely beautiful but the ambiance he created set an amazing mood that was beyond my vision. I would recommending Adam and Advanced Production and Design to anyone looking for high quality service and design for any event they are planning. Thank you for your outstanding service and professionalism!! I hope we have the opportunity to work with you in the future!

Pam has helped me with decorating advice on numerous occasions. She helped me chose the tile for my kitchen floor, which is my favorite part of the entire kitchen remodel and I have received many compliments on it! Pam has also helped me chose curtains and wall decor and her advice has always been top notch. She has a knack for choosing the right color schemes and is always patient and thoughtful when providing decorating advice. I was prompted to ask her advice when upgrading my home because of the fantastic job she did creating a beautiful office space, the color schemes are great and the artwork is perfect for the space. In summary, Pam is very creative and has a talent for decorating.——Kim C.

After I moved into a new studio in Boston I had Maggie help me decorate. My main goal was for items to look high quality without spending a fortune! She made my Ikea furniture look like Mitchell Gold with just a coat of paint and some trim! This looks fab and I have already received so many compliments from friends. Best part is I didn’t even have to break the bank!

My husband and I had a great experience working with Hannah. We recently moved into our first home and were unsure of what we wanted to do with the space. As our house is much larger than our previous home (but not a forever home), we struggled with which areas to focus on improving and how to prioritize purchasing furniture. We weren't sure what our "vision" for the space was, and she started by helping us tease through that, offering options without overwhelming us. Hannah was able to help us make selected improvements that had a big impact, focusing on common spaces and "high traffic" areas, recommending decorations and furniture that were both within our budget constraints and timeless enough to stay with us for years to come. I loved her small style suggestions that quickly transformed a room - even just placement of furniture or artwork. Hannah explained what changes would help make our home feel more finished and quickly helped execute, based on our personal style. I would recommend Hannah over and over - if you are looking for a full interior makeover or just a small space, she's able to translate her skills to whatever the task.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
