Brett's Roofing & Remodeling LLC performed repairs to my main roof and carport roof. In addition, repairs were made to the base of pillars which support the front porch. Cement was poured to fill the crack in the porch & provide support. Drain pipes were installed in the front & back yard to transport overflow of water pooling in the yard. Damaged carport support posts were replaced. Guttering was replaced and helmets were reinstalled. The work was done very efficiently. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my experience. Mr. Switzer was easy to communicate with. He explained what they were going to do and why. He did not do anything that did not need to be done. I will definitely consider his company for additional projects in the future.

We had a roof replaced on our house and Southern Builders did the work on time and as promised. Charlie even went out of his way to help make special accommodations when it came to picking out a color/type of shingle. The crew worked quickly and cleaned up all of their debris. I would highly recommend them. The new roof looks amazing and I appreciate their hard work with a quick turn around time.

Fantastic overall , Tony & his team knocked our door and we didn't even notice we had any damages to our roof . They explained the whole process to us , showed us pictures of the damaged and assisted me with filing my claim through my home Owners insurance , they did all work according to what the insurance paid plus we got an upgraded roofing system! Very pleased with all work and communication would recommend to anyone needing any work done.

I was very happy with these guys. Had them do framing, hardieplank cladding, roofing, exterior painting and drywall on a detached studio building on my property. No complaints and the price was good. They helped me figure out what materials to get when I was confused about that. Would have them back for future work and recommend to others. Brittney was my main point of communication about the business side and Angel was on site working with Lester. Friendly and courteous, good communicators and on time. Got it done very efficiently and solved challenges that came well.

Our church was looking for a roofing contractor with experience and one that could work within our budget. David and his team bid the job, won the bid, and had the work completed within a week. It was done professionally and quickly. This isn't the first time I've used David and his team and I'll use him again in the future.

Dusty takes pride in his work. he works fast and is knowledgeable in paints and does great Sheetrock patching. He is friendly and fun. He works a paint brush like I've never seen. He is going to be doing more ceilings and walls for us and I'm moving a thing to wrap the man dropped not one drop of paint and I took the tape back for a refund for he didn't need it. Dusty will be recommended to friends and family and to anyone reading this post. My 1977 walls and ceilings look like they are brand new. Thanks Dusty you're the best.

I called Branden at Burell, the Knoxville area rep and salesperson, and he came out the next day to give an estimate. I decided on this company mainly because when I asked Brandon a question about the roofing materials, he was very honest both with the positives and negatives. As soon as weather permitted, the installation crew arrived and installed the new roofing in one day with only minor touch up details to attend to for finishing. So far, everything has gone very smoothly and I am confident the roof will keep everything safe and dry for a long time. I do think if there ever is a problem in the near future for any reason, that Burell will quickly address it!

In searching for a company to put a new roof on our house, a local business gave us a contact. We called Zeb Golder one afternoon and he arrived promptly at our house one day later to provide information and find out what our needs were. He spent quite some time with us and it felt more like a friend was visiting us rather than someone trying to gain our business. We had a detailed quote within the next couple of business days. Our new roof was put on approximately a week later and the entire process couldn’t have gone smoother. Since medical issues prevented us from being on hand when the job was done , Zeb sent pictures of the completed project. Everything looked perfect ! We are senior citizens and have dealt with numerous vendors over the years. In addition to the quality of work, this was by far the best customer service we have ever experienced.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
