I went to the Swedish Institute in NYC where the requirements are 1000 hours of training, which is more than TX. I am a good listener and try to be detailed in my work. I can also work as part of a team with the clients health providers like their doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist. The smile on peoples faces and the look of bliss after working on them. The fitness and nutrition industry has no educational requirement for entry. I work exclusively as a personal trainer and registered dietitian on a daily basis with clients, not at a corporate job in an unrelated field and do this on weekends. In today's world where everyone is claiming to be an expert on nutrition and fitness, I think this distinction is important to make. I love connecting with people and motivating them to make behavior changes and watching them get the results they didn't think they could get without drugs or surgery. I love seeing those "Ah-ha!" moments in clients' eyes. That is a huge perk of my career :)(show more)

What do you love about your job?
What I enjoy the most is the ability to truly help better someone's life. At the end of the day, there is nothing more important than a person's health. As a personal trainer, I find great joy in my responsibility to provide quality service to each client. I have made many great friends and truly believe that I have the greatest job in the world. It has also allowed me to travel all over the country, spreading the gift of health and fitness.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
When I graduated from the University of Texas - Austin, I thought of setting up wellness programs for large corporations. Unfortunately, there weren't too many jobs in the industry at that time, so I decided to become a personal trainer. Years later, I opened my own fitness studio, and the fight against chronic disease has inspired me. I love the freedom to create my personal programs which made a difference in many lives.
