Blast and Team did an outstanding job of installing a Cedar & Metal Roof Gazebo (Yardistry Kit). The project was fairly involved, but Blast put the extra time in to finish the job and clean up site. Will use him in the future.

Can't say enough good things about this company! I had a master bathroom converted into a standup shower. I also had many other problems that they fixed for me. Pluming, sheetrock, structure beams, and a window needed replacing. I changed the scope of the work after they started and Isaac helped me the whole way. He did not overcharge me when I made additions and his main concern the whole time was that my wife and I were happy with the work. It's hard to find contractors these days that have that level of customer service. I wish I had found them sooner. They also treated my house with the best care that could be expected. They really take the extra time for small things like protecting floors, walls, our things etc. They are professional and knowledgeable which makes them great to guide customers that are unsure of what they want. I can't wait to use them again on some other projects and I would definitely refer this company to even my closest friends and family. I hope this review helps them make connections with other customers who I know will be as happy as we are. Thanks again Isaac!

Called him to check on a gap in the shingles and a shingle that was pulling up. His crew climbed the roof and found several places that were in desperate need of repair that we couldn't see from the ground. He took pictures and videos before and after so we could see the damage and the repairs. He did the job the same day we asked him for an estimate. Very friendly, very professional. We were very pleased and would hire him again if needed.

This work was performed as part of my very first homeowners insurance claim. I was very pleased with how they took the time to explain the process and what I could expect. I actually got more information from them on the process than I did from my insurance company! The roof was completed ahead of schedule and I was very pleased with the quality of the work and the crew they provided. The work site was extremely clean when finished. I have nothing but positive things to say about the work they performed and highly recommend them. If I ever need another roof I will call them again.

Todd and his team are very professional! The job was done in less than a day (new shingles in half of the roof - 3 stories house). I'm very happy about the quality of the job done. Todd kept me updated of the progress during the whole job, he even fixed something that was not part of the job for free. I highly recommend Todd for roofing job! Great company to do business with. our roof started leaking pretty bad after Harvey so we called our insurance company. They denied our roof replacement saying it wasn't storm related. If it weren't for LeakProof we would have spent over $15,000.00 for our roof! LeakProof sent out Benjamin Cheek. He was very profesional. After inspecting the roof he showed us pictures of what he claimed was absolutely wind damage from the storm. He explained how the insurance claims process works and how he would highly recommend we call our insurance company to come back to our house while he was there to walk around with the adjuster so that he could point out the damage he noticed. We called, scheduled another appointment with the insurance and let Benjamin meet our adjuster to represent us. After the adjuster reinspected with Benjamin they approved the complete replacement of our roof! two days later LeakProof replaced our entire roof! They did an outstanding! Our roof is 4500 sq ft and they had it done the same day. I am so thankful I called them! Instead of forking out $15,000-$20,000 thanks to LeakProof all we paid was our $1,000.00 deductable!! I highly recommend them. In fact they are replacing the roof on both my mother and my brothers houses within the next couple weeks.

Jim came out and looked at the flat roof on our commercial office building promptly after making contact with him on Thumbtack. He listened to what we were wanting to do,(not the automatic you need a whole new roof) as only a portion was problematic we did not want replace the whole roof. He proposed some other ideas as well. After settling on plan of attack, he returned a quote promptly and stood behind it 100%. The work started when he said it would and even though they encountered some unforeseen problems, they finished in a timely matter. Clean up was excellent as was the communication with Jim, as well as the installers. Overall very satisfied with his company and would recommend him to others.

Lan-Bar company gave me a great experience in getting a new roof! Lindsey was so nice and professional from our initial conversation and even gave a follow-up call to make sure the roof was to my liking. The crew that installed the roof was great as well. They cleaned up well and I haven't found a nail yet and it's been a over a week since they installed the roof. The price was also extremely reasonable! I would definitely recommend this company and plan on using them in the future to install a patio!

We had a doozy of a job: siding, roofing, and converting a truss-roof carport to an enclosed garage. Monte and Andrew are a class act. They showed up consistently, on time, and did outstanding work. They went the extra mile with a few parts of the project, had a fair price, and were courteous and respectful the entire time. I'd highly recommend them for any remodeling work for your house.

Brad Briggs and his team are extremely technically competent, and professional. They worked with us on the insurance issues and on the design of the new roof, add-on gutters and some insulation updates. Also sorted out some solar-powered powered attic fans for us in "dead-zone" areas where the new ridge vents would not be effective. Great technology on the roof, vents, valleys and other aspects. Overall, we got a great new roof and other upgrades that made our attic cooler and lowered our AC bill. The team was also very conscientious during installation, and thorough in their clean-up. We are very satisfied with the work, and have recommended TX Engineered Roofing to several friends, and they also have received a great job experience. Highly recommended...

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why do I need to clean my roof?

Over time, algae, moss, lichen, dirt and even salt (if you’re near the ocean) can build up on your roof. These buildups can affect the look and function of your roof unless removed. The buildup of organic materials such as moss on a shingle roof can prevent water from sloughing off as it normally would. Trapped water can rot the roof or cause early deterioration of your shingles. Even if you don’t have a shingle roof, moss and lichen absorb water, and that wet material adds weight and stress to your roof — as well as providing a home for insects and other pests, and collecting dirt. For reflective, cool roofs that redirect heat away from the home, algae and moss growths can hamper their ability to deflect the sun, which can affect utility bills. Visually, moss, dirt and algae growths on a roof can have a negative effect on perceived home value and curb appeal. For example, black algae streaks on your roof may cause a potential homebuyer to assume that the roof might need repair or replacement, when it only needs to be cleaned.

Can a roof be cleaned?

Yes roofs can be cleaned, and yes, it’s a real thing. Roof cleaning may actually be a wise investment to prolong the life of your roof. Overgrowth of moss, grime, lichen or algae can all shorten the life of your roof. If you have black streaks growing on your roof, they are likely caused by gloeocapsa magma algae spores that have landed on your roof and taken up residence. Once the algae has grown into streaks, the organism has usually been growing for several months and it’s high time to have it removed. If you live in a rainy part of the country, such as the Pacific Northwest, there’s a good chance you’ll find moss growing on your roof at some point. The northern part of your roof, as well as any parts that remain shaded all day, will provide a wet, cool haven for moss to flourish. Unfortunately this water-absorbing moss can damage your shingle roof, leading to rot if not removed. Beyond roof health and function, a clean roof can boost your curb appeal and potentially boost your home’s resale value. The national average for roof cleaning costs ranges between $270 and $350, although prices can be higher depending on how large your roof is, how steep your roof is, and what type of cleaning is necessary. Typically pros use either a pressure wash or chemical wash (made with a concentrated bleach solution) to remove algae, lichen, moss and dirt.

What chemicals are used to clean roofs?

Roof cleaning is done to remove moss, lichen, algae, and buildup of other grime and dirt. There are several methods for roof cleaning, which can include a chemical soft wash, pressure washing, low-pressure washing and hand washing. When a chemical soft wash is used, a bleach mixture is sprayed onto the roof. The bleach-based solution is absorbed by the algae or moss, which dies from exposure to the chemical. The roof is then sprayed with a low-pressure rinse of water, which loosens the now-dead material, allowing it to slide off the roof.

For homeowners, the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends a mixture of 50 percent laundry-strength liquid chlorine bleach and 50 percent water. Professional roof cleaning companies will use an industrial mixture that is still safe but may be more effective in eliminating algae and moss growths. Asphalt shingle roofs are the most common type of roof, but each roofing material will have its own cleaning needs, so it’s best to consult with your roofing pro before diving in. Don’t do it yourself unless you can safely navigate your roof, the chemicals and a sprayer system. When in doubt, leave it to the pros.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
