I have been training with Tres at Spartan Strength Training for about 3 months and love the results I am seeing. I have lost several inches off my waist and other areas and with his meal plan and workout plan I have way more energy now. The weight loss I have seen is awesome and I am way more motivated to keep it up then I have ever been!! Great decision to start training with Spartan!!!!!

Patience is the essential to a good client-trainer relationship. I have been a client at Strength and Fəˈzēk for approximately eight months and went from deadlifting 135 lbs. to 475 lbs. and still going. Zach (trainer and owner) at Strength and Fəˈzēk, understands what works for each client as well as what may not work for another. My very first day was not a show and tell of the gym or about how much weight I could lose. Zach actually took the time to assess my body to familiarize my needs for exercise, diet, and training. Zach will find comfortable pace for each client based on your progression rate. Zach’s attention to detail is phenomenal. Zach focuses on ensuring the correct body positions when lifting to ensure not only proper lifting, but safe lifting to prevent injury. Zach concentrates on all areas of your body and helps you create and helps you create achievable goals that help you strive to achieve them. Zach communicates his knowledge in a manner that clients understand and he is ready available to answer any of your questions at any hour of the day. Zach’s training sessions are fun, he provides you with motivation to show up ready train hard, and encourages throughout your session to make you train beyond your normal capabilities. Most importantly, you gain a sense of enjoyment from each training session as you get closer to achieving your goals. Ruby is awesome! I have been training with her for nine months now and I am getting great results. She is VERY knowledgeable when it comes to the body, nutrition and physical training. She listens and understands what you want and formulates "step ladder" goals to get there. Ruby is a very motivated person and makes reaching those goals fun. She expects the best from you, which I totally appreciate. I would not want anything less. I see us going way past my end goal. I wouldn't trade Ruby for a fully paid gym membership. I would never get the results I am getting now. I feel great physically and mentally!

He is working with my father training at home. Since his stroke, my father has put on weight. Marvin has been great working with my dad pushing him at his level. My father says things are going well and I think he has been surprised at how sore his muscles feel. But that means he's getting a workout!

I ran my first 5K yesterday. I was not able to do that 5 months ago. Andy has pushed me to be my best. He genuinely wants to see me reach my goals. I had major surgery in May and he has been helping me gain my strength back week by week. He is so knowledgeable in fitness and nutrition and watches my form to make sure I am not hurting myself in any way. He pushes me when I want to be lazy and make excuses and motivates me when I want to give up. He helps me be patient and reminds me this is a journey and takes time.....iI even have my mother training with him because he is realky good with training individuals at any level in their health and fitness journey. I highly recommend Andy to anyone looking for a great motivational trainer that will push you to reach your goals in a non-militant style!

Joseph is an amazing trainer. I have been working out with him for about 6 months and have been more than happy with my results. I have lost 13 pounds and 4% body fat. He not only provides great training sessions but he also creates a meal plan tailored to meet each client's individual goals. I have had 3 other trainers before him and none of them provided that service. If you are trying to decide who to go with, hire Joseph and you will be happy with your results.

Working with Warren, aka Dubs, has absolutely been a life changing experience. Overall he has helped me change my diet, my workout routine, and ultimately my mentality towards health and fitness. Dubs is very knowledgeable about personal training and is superb in helping his clients receive the results they are looking for. After working with him for only about 3-4 weeks, I had already started to see some great results! If you really want to achieve the results that you want, bypass all of the amateurs and get with Dubs. Trust me you won't regret it!

Private atmosphere w professional trainers that will design a specific program to fit your needs. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or professional athlete you'll be amazed w the knowledge and help you'll get here. Individual, couple, or small group training. They have it all!! Difference between Get FHIIT and other places, private means private (not a gym full of people) and true knowledge and education well beyond just personal trainers certification. Get your scale and your muscles moving in the right direction. If they have an opening, you should try them out. If they are no longer taking new clients, get on the wait list. It's worth a try and worth the wait. Personally, I drive 45 minutes one way, the results are worth my time.

Amber became my personal trainer almost two years ago, after I hit my highest weight two years after having my son. I was sick of people assuming I was 7 months pregnant all the time. Amber has been amazing to work with. She's a very sweet person who is all about building you and your confidence up. She's helped me reach my weight loss goal and to continually set the bar higher for myself with my fitness and training. Absolutely love her, and would recommend her to anyone. ☺

I highly recommend the services of Workout Doctors Company. The gym setting is well equipped and has a personal feel; it’s like working out at home. I’ve had no concerns about feeling self conscience or out of place during my one-on-one training sessions. My trainer, John Mose tailored a program that addresses MY personal needs and goals; no cookie cutter routines. After years of struggling with my weight this was a last resort. I didn’t know what to expect at 54 years old and a 252 pound starting weight, but I am beyond pleased. I’m losing weight and my confidence is growing! John is affable, but stern when he needs to be in order to get you where you want/need to be for your health. Not only will you get the personalized exercise program you need, you’ll get invaluable nutrition and lifestyle change instruction and encouragement. I had no idea how much this kind of accountability would help me. Thank you Workout Doctors Company.

Alan has a great background of information in training as well as nutrition. He trains for the whole body to build up muscle throughout. He is great at determining nutrition best for you to workout, lose weight, etc. He has many different types of training and uses them all to train. Whether you would like personal protection, weight loss, weight lifting, endurance, etc. Alan can help in all areas. I enjoy the knowledge and ability to be flexible as well as knowing the limits of the client. Alan is very positive and helps to maintain positivity during training.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). If your lessons are in a martial arts studio, you may not be permitted to wear shoes, so bring clean socks if you don’t like to go barefoot. If your training includes sparring, you may be required to wear a mouthguard and/or protective headgear. Whether you’re in a group fitness class or hardcore training session, bring a sweat towel for your comfort and the comfort of people around you.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.
