Marc is a talented and experienced professional videographer and photographer. I needed help getting video turned into finished deliverables and he stepped up and hit it out of the park. It's great to deal with young folks who are truly gifted and able to communicate and help with any needs in the video or photograph arena.

My husband and I chose Happened by Chance out of atleast 5 other videographers/photographers and we were blown away by their work! We used them for both video and photography. Chance was always attentive and quick to respond to any questions we had. And his wife Christina was wonderful and patient with both my bridal portraits and day of photos. We are so very grateful they did such an amazing job that we will be able to remember our special day for the rest of our lives.

We could not recommend Brooke highly enough! She produced the most beautiful pictures and managed to capture the essence of the day in a way we could not have imagined. We found no need for a videographer as Brooke's photos told the story of the day just perfectly and - each time we look at our photos - we spot somebody's expression or a clever detail that we missed the first time around. When choosing a photographer, you spend a lot of time looking at other people's wedding photos and hope that yours will turn out just as well. Nothing compares to looking at your own and, with Brooke, they will turn out even better! Thank you sooooooo much Brooke and your assistant!!!!!!

We absolutely loved Golden Age Media! My husband and I are so glad we chose them to do videography on our wedding day! We found Joseph on Thumbtack and he was so responsive and helpful through the whole booking process. He even agreed to skype us so that we could get to know him more and to answer our questions. As a bride who planned her entire wedding alone, I sincerely appreciated Joseph’s professionalism and his knowledge on what to do/film on our wedding day. He never bombarded me with calls or txt during the entire planning process. He only asked me about what I wanted once and instantly knew my vision from the start. He and his assistant were extremely friendly and enthusiastic on our wedding day! We received our videos about two weeks after our wedding which was amazing! The quality of the video was perfect! The way that our videos were put together brought my husband and I to tears and took us back to our special day. We are so thankful for that. All of our guests and family complimented our videos and praised how great of a job our videographers did. We highly recommend Golden Age Media and look forward to working with them in the future! Do not hesitate to hire them! They will take care of you and help capture the best memories of your event! Wishing Thumbtack would let me share my video just so everyone could see how amazing it is!!! Thank you Joseph for your amazing work, professionalism, friendliness, and passion for what you do. You were awesome!!

Brent is a total pro! He communicated extremely well while planning our event, was on time, very organized and effectively trouble-shooted technical issues the hotel was having and anticipated our needs (even before we recognized them as needs - lol). The video footage he shot for us of a two day educational seminar was top-notch professional product. I coordinate several events throughout the country each year and Brent is one of the best videographers I've ever worked with. I look forward to working with him again in the future

Matt K. Pros: Caring service, knowledgeable at his craft and experienced in weddings, brings multiple cameras, fantastic price point. Cons: Particular deal may not be right for those who don't know how to video edit – ask Matt which plan is right for you. My wife and I were unsure of if we should go with a videographer for our wedding, in the world of tight wedding budgets it always seems like it's the first thing to get cut. After deep consideration we felt like we would be losing more (memories in sight, sound, and motion) than we'd gain if we cut it out so we began our search unsure of what would be out there. In August of 2015 after a few pricey bids I met Matt. I first found him through a placement on Craigslist and checked out his website. The deal almost seemed too good to be true. Bring your own hard drive and he would shoot the wedding in raw. I do a little bit of video editing in Premiere, so this was the perfect thing. he was a pleasure to talk through over the phone and I was ready to give it a try. Fast forward to our wedding rehearsal on January 29th, I got to finally meet Matt in person. His affable, straightforward personality and good humor kept everyone in good spirits. He had a lot of insight to bring to the table, but was also good at knowing when to stay behind the scenes. On the wedding day, he played a large factor in keeping me (the groom) calm and thinking through every back-up plan. He went above and beyond in three meaningful ways: first, he brought extra cameras and equipment, second he stayed the entire night and captured the spirit of the reception really well, and finally he gave us an edited cut of our wedding ceremony as our wedding gift – which proved deeply helpful to share with loved ones who couldn't make it out to the wedding. If you feel comfortable editing your own footage, this is the deal for you (I'm sure he also offers full packages too if you're not). He's got a good eye and big heart for what he does.

Tim and Peter were AHHHHMAAAAZING! I needed to find a Videographer and fast. Tim was quick to respond to my SOS for our event and was super helpful, not to mention patient with the multiple changes in decisions. Peter did an incredible job in listening to what our needs were and capturing the moments we wanted. He was always one step ahead. I couldn't have asked for a group of people to capture our event. I would highly recommend hiring these guys for any event you do.Great job El Tiburon Productions! Keep up the awesome work!

Roman P Photography did a fantastic job shooting VIDEO of my August wedding. I wanted to try to stream my wedding live so that friends and family in Chile could watch and he was willing to tackle that project and made it work very smoothly! Roman came out to the church in advance to test signal strength and had it setup for our day! I had family in Arizona that couldn't come, childhood friends scattered across the U.S. that said they watched my wedding LIVE online via the stream he created. PLUS, I had a copy of my ceremony within a week that I was able to post on my wedding website for friends and family to watch! I received a 4 minute compilation video set to our favorite songs and then all the reception footage that covered our first dance, toasts, personal interviews and more. Roman was competitively priced and I can't stop watching the videos he provided. The 30 min ceremony, 4 min music video and the 25 min reception video. He spent a whole day with us and captured our day for us to keep forever! I had trouble initially selecting a videographer - I definitely picked the right one. Thank you Roman!

Peter was absolutely incredible! I was so afraid that I was not going to have a wedding videographer because we could not afford one but Peter came and saved the day!!! He was incredible and we absolutely loved our video!! It was everything that we had hoped for and more. It was the one thing that helped me relive my wedding day!! Pictures are great but it’s the videos that actually show you all the little things that you missed. I just feel so blessed for Peter. He did things with the video that even videographers with 20 years of experience wouldn't have thought to do and I am just so thankful for him. I cannot stop watching the video! This is the most special wedding gift that anyone could have given us and we couldn’t be happier. Not having him video our wedding would have been my biggest regret! He is affordable and best of all, he cares!

I can't say enough good things about our experience working with Jake. We hesitated on hiring a videographer at all due to cost, but realized that it could be a great thing to show those who couldn't make it...and re-watch years later - SO glad we did! We watched our video 3 times back-to-back the night we got it, and have had so much fun showing friends and family. Jake was incredibly friendly, professional, and the end product perfectly encapsulates our day, and far surpasses other videographer's portfolios that I found. Highly recommend working with him.

My wife and I are extremely happy with our wedding photos. They were very professional and made the experience fun. They are very creative and are able to adapt to their environment and execute their vision, all while asking us for our input and letting us implement some of our own ideas. I highly recommend them to anyone needing professional photographers and videographers. You will NOT be disappointed!

I would recommend Jacob to anyone who needs anything professionally videotaped and edited! He listened very carefully to my requests and explianed the process very well. I am so happy with the end result and a wonderful of highlight of our special day. The price was very reasonable considering the market for wedding video and the quality was comparable to any of those high priced videographers. Hire Jacob! You won't regret it.

My wife and I were very lucky to have David film our wedding, especially because we asked him at the very last minute. We also wanted to have a unique finished product instead of the typical, boring wedding video; he was able to pull that off and more! We couldn't be happier with our video and will show it for years to come. Not only that, but when our photographer was running late on our big day, David graciously offered to start taking my wife and I's first photos together. Our contracted photographer eventually showed up, but his generosity, and preparedness helped relieve so much stress for my wife as we juggled the hectic day. I've met plenty of wedding photographers and videographers, but David's kindness and professionalism really set him apart.

Mariposa served as the videographer for my mother's memorial service so that I could share it with many friends and family who were unable to attend. I had no problems communicating with Pete & his partner (Jon) before the service. Jon arrived on time (early, in fact) and did a great job recording the service. The video quality was very good, and the video editing was well-done and exactly what I needed. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Mariposa again, and I can definitely recommend them to others.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

        • Package 1: $1,400
          • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
          • Two cameras with audio equipment.
          • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
          • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
        • Package 2: $1,800
          • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
