Mike did a great job with our project. We had new countertops installed, and he came and reconnected our sink plumbing, disposal, and new faucet. He was attentive to detail, made sure we were aware of different issues, and worked to keep cost as low as possible. Also, he made himself available on short notice, trying to work around current jobs he had lined up. It was a very positive experience. Very knowledgable and courteous.

Excellent service and price. We had our whole house remodeled with new hardwood floors on the first floor and new carpet on the second floor. I did a lot of research and Carpet &flooring liquidators had the best prices. However the installation was better than the pricing! Installers were professional, on time, worked very hard and got the job done on a tight timeline. Will definitely use them again for any other flooring projects. Highly recommended!!

Mike is awesome! His quality of work is unsurpassed. He installed laminate flooring on my second floor and I could not be happier with how great it looks. I would recommend him to everyone and have already given his number out to friends. Thank you Mike so much for the time you put in and for making my home beautiful. Mike takes the time to talk to you and fully explain the process so that you don't feel you're getting taken advantage of like other contractors make you feel.

We hired Robert and his crew to take care of 4 rooms of carpet and our living room with beautiful quality wood look laminate. Robert came all the way out to us in Keller and did not pressure us on anything. He talked about the flooring and what our options were and let us select what worked best. He made some suggestions to help us with cost and we still went with the less expensive version simply because it fit us better. His crew was very friendly, they left everything very clean and they worked VERY diligently to get things done. The living room had a glued down ugly engineered wood that was very difficult to get off and they worked very hard to get through it and didn't charge us extra even though it was more than expected. The floors and carpet are perfect. They even came back and took care of a few things that we had questions on and we are very happy with the finished product. Robert communicated with us through the whole process and we would definitely work with him and his crew again!

Mr. Jose Garcia is a professional at his work and at his word. He did an outstanding job at a good price. I had very heavy furniture which he handled properly. Jose and his crew did a good job to my satisfaction. The entire 2500sq.ft. of Hardwood flooring was done in couple of days with out any issues. I will definitely refer him to my friends and neighbors. Mr. Jose if you are reading this, I want to give you another big thanks for all your hard work and your professional work. Thanks a lot. Mitchell Lowery has completed multiple jobs for us over the years from replacing carpeting with wood floors, to outside decking to painting, to building us a laundry room, tile work, etc. There just doesn't seem to be anything he can't do and his work is outstanding. We trust him completely with everything concerning our house. We would not hire anyone else. We refer him as often as we can especially after friends come over and see his work. You want good, quality work from someone who knows what they're doing, hire Mitchell Lowery.

the project consist of remodeling the backsplash in our kitchen then installing porcelain tile in Living/Kitchen, Entry, Pantry and Utility room. He was very helpful with the color scheme making sure the backsplash went well with our new granite countertop. He also came up with a wonderful design. The flooring was an expensive porcelain tile which looks like real wood floors. With my experience with construction, I knew the installation was going to be little different compared to wood floors. After discussing this with him, I knew with his experience, it would be installed correctly. We were please with the results and have received so many complements from friends and family.

So this small local business is the best it gets. I have used MANY flooring contractors and this IS the best: 1. Cesar showed up with samples to choose from and hand plenty of photos of it installed. 2. The prices were very competitive. 3. His crew was incredibly nice and showed up on time and cleaned very well. 4. I would NOT hesitate to use this company. Can’t wait to use them again!!

We just finished phase one of our home update. Floor covering international Plano, and John Conroy, made the experience a superior one! John helped us with our selection, his team of professionals were quick and did absolutely beautiful work. We couldnt be happier with the finished result and the customer service. Original plan was just flooring in bedroom, bathroom and closet, but we were able to bundle in tile in the kitchen and bar area, and are thrilled with the results! Thank you FCI and John Conroy!

Ever did a great job repairing the ceiling drywall/sheetrock in my garage. He was on time and got the work done quickly. The drywall was starting to fall down from the ceiling in various areas and he was able to repair it and fix the seams so it looks like a brand new ceiling. We were so impressed with the work that while he was there we asked if he could give us a quote to replace our back door and the frame where some of the wood is damaged. I highly recommend Ever and obviously would hire him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
