Can't say enough great things about AJ and Red Dot Cuisine! I hired AJ to cater my wedding on 11/19/16. We had around 175 guest at a venue located close to Downtown Houston. All my communication from the start has been pleasant, thorough, and best of all easy. Planning a wedding can be very stressful but I was fortune to have a stress free catering experience. AJ prepared a tasting for me so we could finalize the menu. This was a huge plus as he accommodated the timing around my hectic work schedule. The wedding day itself went smoothly. AJ was able to provide all our needs including linens and all china/glassware. We received MULTIPLE compliments on the food. Our guest were very impressed with the variety offered and the quality. My husband's favorite part was the dessert option. Since we were having cake we did not want a dessert buffet. AJ offered to make small favor chocolates with our picture printed on them. They were so cute and a huge hit with our guest! Not only were they cute but it also saved us money since we didn't have to purchase a favor separately. Overall I would recommend Red Dot to anyone who is looking for a professional, service oriented company. Thanks AJ!

Jan was wonderful in every way! A true professional, she was easy to communicate with and helped everything go smoothly for our wedding ceremony. She sent us really helpful sample ceremony scripts, helped us to customize our wedding, met with us to go over details, ran the rehearsal, and made sure everything went well on the wedding day. Her help made our ceremony feel really special and she is exactly the kind of person you want with you on your wedding day. She is warm and professional and really calmed us down before the ceremony. We would happily recommend her to any couple looking for a wedding officiant.

DJ Erock was very accommodating on short notice. We hired him for our wedding (10 days from our day) and he met with us that week to line out a plan. He was flexible, professional and organized in a short time frame. He asked that we provide a music list for the event and offered a few suggestions upon request. Easy to communicate with....even via text/email. He was early the day of the wedding to ensure setup was complete well before the ceremony as we used one venue for the ceremony/dinner reception/party. He interacted well with the crowd and even jumped in and taught a dance step or two for those who didn't know what to do. He has some nice lighting for the dance floor and can do some nice uplighting for a little extra. Overall, we were happy to have Eric as part of our special day.

From day one I was very impressed with DJ Kayenne’s professionalism. After reviewing his quote and profile I know he would be the best DJ for my wedding. My wedding was composed of a very diverse group of people. My family is Latino and my fiancé’s family is from Louisiana. So I knew I would need a DJ who would have a flexible and diverse musical library and DJ Kayenne did not disappoint. He played a very in-depth amount of Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Tejano, Norteno, Bachata, and Reggaeton. However he also played a great amount of contemporary Pop, Rock, and Top 40. My wedding would have not been a success if it wasn’t for DJ Kayenne. Thank You!

Corley was an amazing day-of coordinator. The week of our wedding, Corley was in communication with all the vendors and confirmed all details with them. She helped us manage communication when our hotel had to change at the last minute. She attended our rehearsal the day before the wedding. She dropped off sandwiches for the bridesmaids on the day of the wedding. She also went early to decorate the venue (and it looked incredible!) She ran the ceremony and helped us stay on schedule. She organized all of the clean up and made sure the items were repacked in the correct cars. I couldn't recommend Corley highly enough!

My wedding food was a hit! Keif's dishes tasted like home-cooked meals rather than normal bland wedding food which is why I loved Keif! We had baked chicken, green beans, rice, and fish. The menu varied so everyone got a little bit of what they wanted. The price was also very cheap compared to most catering companies for 200 guests. Lastly, we paid for two extra servers/waiters and they were also not pricey compared to other catering companies. Please do not look past Keif's Catering when planning your wedding! He is the best caterer with the best attitude and best wedding food. Thank you Keif and great luck with all your future endeavors!!

Sharon and her team provided videography services for a wedding for my clients in October. As an event planner, i was quite impressed with her follow thru and commitment to my detailed time line. Her experience as a director and producer added a sence of flair to our experience with her you won't get with other videographers in the wedding industry. I would highly recommend her again when it comes to shooting a wedding.

This was our second marriage to each other. Chris was a pleasure to work with not only for the wedding, but also for our premarital counseling. We felt very comfortable with him and he provided a safe place to strengthen our relationship and not fall into the same pitfalls that tore us apart from before. We walked away from our last session with so much more knowledge, strength, and the tools needed to maintain our second journey in life together. Opted In terms of the ceremony layout, he was very accommodating and flexible with any ideas we had. I liked that we were able to put our own touches on the wording, but I also liked the fact that he gave a wide variety of options for wording for the ceremony. His delivery allowed our loved ones to feel and know that this time is forever…. Thank you Brey & Co

We hired D NICE to play music for our wedding ceremony and reception. The wedding was at our house, so he met with us several months in advance and had a great idea on how he would light the space. Everything went really well that evening, the blue accent lights looked amazing with our decor and he kept our guests dancing all night. Thanks for helping us have such a memorable evening!

He took any random song request from our guest and had everyone enjoying their favorite songs. He is organized which was so helpful because I was very overwhelmed at the time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.
