My son needed help with math and when I started shopping around I found private tutors to be expensive which was discouraging until I found Planting Seeds Tutoring!!! We worked with Chris to set a clear goal path and we were matched with Hannah as our tutor. Planting Seeds aka Hannah has been a blessing to us. Hannah is incredible!! She has this ability to drag my son out of his teen mode and get him to interact and have fun while tutoring. Some days are harder than others but Hannah doesn't give up! Its only been a few months and my sons math grade has already improved at school. I highly recommend Planting Seeds Tutoring they will work with you to ensure you get the service you need. They are not just selling a product they actually care and want to help you accomplish your goals. Not only are they service friendly but also affordable. Chris has worked with my on every level to ensure nothing would get in the way of my son getting the help he needed. Hannah has been great and flexible with our crazy weekly schedules and is always wiling to accommodate us. I'm excited to see what Planting Seeds will help my son achieve. Thank you Chris & Hannah!!!

The company replied in a timely manner and arranged for SAT tutors to connect with my student right away. We were given an opportunity to select which type of tutors my daughter would listen to...authoritative or patient. We also liked the fact that there were many tutors to choose from.

Vikas was an excellent choice. He is one of the best tutors that I have ever worked with. He is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. He is patient and encouraging and explains concepts very well in order to make sure that you are understanding the material. I was very impressed with his abilities and I highly recommend him. Chris himself is very nice to work with but some of his tutors not so much. As a concerned parent I'd highly recommend to re-evaluate the tutors.

Our son is smart but lacked confidence when it comes to math. Add to that a doctor in physics filling in as the calculus teacher and it was a bad mix. Eric helped Josh not only pass his senior year math class with room to spare, but even helped him to dislike math a little less and feel more confident. Eric was also fabulous with scheduling. Josh was a two-sport athlete and had a job. Eric was willing and able to work around Josh's crazy schedule. We couldn't have made it through senior year without Eric.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom.
