We had Germaine come out and give us a quote to prune our Bradford Pear, remove rosebushes, pull a tree stump, and create a pea gravel and stone walkway. Germaine is extremely knowledgable and when to school as an arborist. They broke our projects down and completed the bushes, stump and pruning in one day, this also included injected my tree due to bores. The tree came out great. The walkway was laid, but it did not come out to our expectations, due to our failure to explain exactly what we wanted, as well as some shotty wok by the crew. the work was not poor it was just not great. Germaine was not happy that we were not satisfied and make sure to make it 150% right. We could not be any more pleased with our tree and our new walkway. I would recommend Germaine to anyone who wants great, fast, and beautiful work. i will use Germaine again in the furture and I could not find a better price in the metroplex!

My name is Dan Lang. After having a number of unhappy experiences with landscape and tree services I found Patino Tree Services. Ramon Hurtado, the operations manager met with me and we discussed what needed to be done in my yard. Patino Tree Services arrived at my home at the time we agreed upon and performed the services I requested. My yard was weeded(from the roots), mulched with mulch that stayed in my beds, and my mature trees and shrubs were pruned to my desires. The pruning was my biggest concern ,but was performed exactly as I requested. I consider Patino Tree Services as reliable and honest and consider Ramon and his crew as Family.

Robert and Sam did a wonderful job pruning my two oak trees, many crepe myrtle, trimmed all the bushes, and cut my lawn. In my opinion, what make Hawk's Tree and Lawn Service special is the way Robert and Sam do their work. They take their time to do good work, he take care of the yard as if it was his own yard, Robert would step back and use his aesthetic sensibility to see what branches of tree that need to be trim, not just finish the job and move to the next one. They did such good work, that when they were done with my yard, two of mine neighbor asked Robert to trim their trees the next day. I will definitely call Hawk's Tree and Lawn Service again to help me with future job. It is very nice to see individual who took pride in their work, and did it with such integrity!

Mr. Montoya quoted me a great price and got the job done to exact specifications. His team was quick and efficient and even cleaned up an old plant bed without my even asking them. The front of my house looks neat and clean now with the hedge pruning they did and my backyard is once again open and clean from the tree pruning. Yard is mowed and edged wonderfully. I'll certainly be using them again.

Lawnsmith came out to do spring cleanup after years of neglect in our heavily wooded front and backyard. Andrew made several great recommendations and ensured we were satisfied with every step of the process. He was very professional and courteous to me and my family. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a great lawn service and positive experience.

The Nikki really wanted my job to be completed to my satisfaction. She listened and provided a crew who were hard working, friendly and knowledgeable. She gave me great tips on landscape changes I was considering. The crew was really concerned about my satisfaction with their work. I felt so appreciative of them as it was a big job with a lot of trees and shrubs that needed cut and pruned and cleared. I believe it was a very fair price I paid for the work. She had a problem with the agreed time to meet but kept me informed about her arrival and that worked out for us. I'm glad I chose them and they will be back for further landscape needs.

Tom did an outstanding job at our home! I had many overgrown areas in my landscape (weeds as well as trees that needed pruning), plus I just added a patio that needed finishing touches. Tom came in, and made the landscaping beautiful. He was always on time and communicated exactly what to expect. I would highly recommend him!

Reliable, professional, and he KNOWS trees. I love my trees and don't want just anyone hacking away at them. Damian is a certified arborist who understands tree growth and patterns. He climbs the tree (no cherry picker for this guy! Amazing!) to see exactly that needs to be pruned. On top of it all, his prices are incredible. (He keeps a low overhead and is able to offer a better deal than the big companies). After the terrible winter storm in 2010 that wrecked so many trees, Damian was swamped, but it was worth it to me to wait a week for him so take down limbs that were blocking our driveway. I don't trust anyone else but him.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
