This was a most pleasant experience. My hard drive went bad and needed to be replaced. He quickly installed a new solid state drive and now my laptop is running better (and faster). Will definitely use PCstar again!!
Eric was fabulous! He dealt with my poor communication (as I was in a really stressful semester at school) and tried to contact me multiple times. His communication was excellent! He was also very flexible with making appointments and telling us straight up what he would be able to do for us and made suggestions for where we might be able to turn for more help, as my hard drive to my laptop was completely dead, and would need to be sent to a data recovery company with heavier equipment if I remember right. We ended up using him to get a new hard drive for my laptop, and then came back for my husband's laptop as well to fix a video cable to the screen. If we ever have any more computer issues, he's the first person we'll go to.
Had a bad hard drive,he cleaned up everything, and replaced hard drive had it back in a week. Thank-you
My computer died and I got a new one. I was not able to transfer the data from the old computer to my new one. Sean was able to recover the data from the old machine and put it on an external drive for me to look at before moving it to my new machine. Sean had my computer up and running within a day and he did an outstanding. If you need your computer fixed, call Sean. I will call him back again when I need computer service. Afton
Mark is very knowledgeable and professional. The repairs and updates I needed done were finished very quickly and the one result was far above my expectations. I will certainly be returning next time I need any computer services done
I was told by the Microsoft store that my laptop was totaled. It wouldn't even turn on. I found these guys and Brandon disconnect the battery and plugged it in and it started up! He was able to get it through the recovery process and get it working again. I still have the battery disconnected, and everything is working perfectly. Just has to be plugged in. So now I have a working laptop. I had no idea that a bad battery would prevent a laptop from even turning on. And why didn't the Microsoft store catch that?! For what he's going to charge you, you can't find a better repair guy.
All in all File Savers does good work as a whole. They aren’t cheap and I do recognize other companies can charge even more. If you use File Savers be sure to get all the costs up front and ask them to send back your original drive when completed instead of them keeping the drive. For a total review of my experience PLEASE READ ON. Overall I’m pleased with the experience I had with File Savers. I sent in 2 drives for recovery, a My Book and a laptop drive. File Savers was able to save the data from the My Book, but was not able to save the data from the laptop drive. I was told the laptop drive is an SSHD drive which is a solid-state hybrid drive (something I’d never heard of). I was told by File Savers that this type of drive is harder to recover data from. They did give it a good try though which I appreciated. I was told to shelve the drive for a year or so and maybe technology would advance to where they could get the data then. When I first called the company they were easy to talk to and quick to send me a pre-paid shipping label. When they received the drives they quickly let me know. They were also quick to get an estimate for me on the cost, which came in at the highest cost on the list for the budget package I chose. After the evaluation both drives came in at just under $2,000.00. File Savers did tell me they would give me $100.00 off per drive as a break in the cost. So that would be just under $1,800.00. Now, as a blind customer, we have to just trust they are being truthful on the estimate because we would never be the wiser if they weren’t truthful. Anyway, at that point I signed an online agreement and all went well, good communication and etc. Just a side note. This was very expensive for my personal budget. But, considering the drives are my daughter’s and they contained every picture and video ever taken of her 2 little girls (ages 4 and 1) from birth to the present. Plus, the ultra sound photo’s and etc. of the little boy she is expecting next month, plus wedding pictures, honeymoon pictures and mission pictures for my son-in-law, the price was worth it to me. Back to the review. I received the bill and paid online. The final bill had charges that weren’t mentioned beforehand. Plus, it took much longer for them to ship the package than expected, which made me nervous. I emailed and didn’t get a reply. So, I was very happy when the shipment finally did arrive. The packaging was quite inadequate for a fragile hard drive. They didn't even use a box. Instead they shipped it back in a plain skinny bubble wrap FedEx envelope. Considering one of the costs was a #25.00 shipping fee I would expect better packaging. I think the overcharge on shipping is to cover the pre-paid shipping label they sent in the beginning….just a guess. I don’t expect free shipping, just reasonable and adequate shipping for the price paid and the fragile contents it contained. The next surprise charge was for $35.00 for the flash drive they sent the recovered My Book data on. They didn’t return the My Book either. I definitely expected that back. I’m glad I did ask for the laptop drive back in advance so I could save it for a future recovery try. I would have asked for the My Book back but I had expected it was just a given that they’d send it back too. These 2 charges put the price of the data recovery back up to nearly the cost before the $100.00 price break. I have to admit I didn’t expect to get an additional charge for a flash drive since it cost just under $1,000.00 for the recovery of 1 drive. I would think the cost of the flash drive would be covered in that cost.
Zach was able to obtain my data/ programs, and copy them to a flash drive I provided. He walked me through what had happened and explained that it was a software "MBR" sp ? error and not a hardware problem. My hard drive was reusable and he offered to redownload my windows and other basic software as on it as well for $30.00 more. He was not pushy, but very friendly and left all the choices up to me. So far so good, I have been able to install my programs and have been using my computer. Zach also recommended another hard drive and automated backup. I may be back in the future but am on a budget for now. Great work!, Glad to be your first Thumbtack Customer.
Bad hard drive. He diagnosed and came to my place. He replaced the hard drive and returned my computer. Very knowledgeable.
From our first meeting Sean was eager to fix the problem with my hard drive. Initially, it proved to be more problematic than expected. After removing the hard drive and inspecting the interior, found the problem. He then made necessary changes to the hardware which made possible my access to needed data. Great job. I would recommend Sean to others with similar problems.
My computer had a virus and Ryan was able to remove it and get it back to me within a day. He was fast, friendly and didn't have any surprise charges.
My laptop just quit working for me one day. Within two minutes of asking for help on this site I received a message from Mat @ Second Life Computers. He is someone who will exceed expectations no matter what you are looking for. My hard drive was fried but he managed to save some of my files, replace my hard drive and install all of my software not only in record time but within a single, unemployed mom's budget. He was even willing to come pick up my laptop from my home since my car was broken down. I recommend Second Life Computers to everyone I know. They are out to make the customers happy which is a quality hard to find now days. Just a little bonus...you can listen to some of the amazing music from his band while you wait or even while you shop for the perfect gaming system. They are the #1 computer company in my eyes!
I've had the pleasure of working with Josh McWilliams on two separate occasions for my desktop and he provided in-home service on both occasions. He demonstrated expert level knowledge of my issue and offered solutions that fit my budget. In fact, his pricing is the best -- far less than any other quotes I received on thumbtack. The first time he did a thorough diagnostic check to ascertain the cause of my issues and uncovered information that I was unaware of. His check revealed that I had been duped by an unscrupulous PC builder who installed a "repaired hard drive" in my supposed all new system. Needless to say, that same drive failed and had to be replaced a couple of later. I, of course, called Josh who came out and installed the new drive in nothing flat! I enthusiastically recommend Josh McWilliams and Raven Technology Solutions for all your computer repair needs, upgrades and diagnostic solutions. He can even get you a good deal on a new computer or cloud storage.
David built a new computer for me and also installed an internal hard drive. He provided quick response, was able to purchase the parts at a discount and passed along the savings to me. He installed all of the software that I requested. I am very pleased with his services.
I have contacted Colton twice now to help with 2 different issues that I was having. The first time was an issue with setting up and configuring a new Wifi router that I bought. Wasn't as easy or straight forward as I originally thought it would be. He was able to come to my home, get it set up and configured very quickly, and provided me with an overall very satisfying experience. A couple weeks later, I got a message on my laptop saying that my Hard drive was failing. He helped me in selecting a new hard drive for my computer. When that new hard drive had arrived he recovered my important data from the old hard drive, got it copied to the new one, and installed and configured the new one. Both times he was very informative with what he was doing and it really seemed like he wanted to help me learn more about the technology which I sometimes don't understand. He was also timely with completion of the jobs and did exactly what I needed him to do. The only reason I am giving 4 stars as opposed to 5 is due to the fact that his premium services were also a premium price, but he helped me see that tech work is not very cheap. If I had called the Geek Squad it would have costed me more, and the service wouldn't have been nearly as good. Thanks for all the wonderful help Colton!
