Kahlua was wonderful to work with and he had two tall pine trees down in a short time. Underneath the trees were a circle of spring tulips and other blooms and not one was damaged. Also around this area was a greenhouse and a tuff shack. They left my yard and area cleaner than when he came! Simply amazing. I would recommend Kahlua business of Miracle Tree Services to everyone. I am having him back in fall to trim additional fruit and other types of tress and will contract with him to take care of my trees as needed on a yearly maintenance program. He is the best!

Neil is a man of his word he said he would be at my home to give me a bid, he was on time gave me a bid and offered to include a couple of small projects for the same price. Not all other companies were as prompt. His was the best bid I recieved. When I called him to start the project he gave me a day he would be able to start and true to his word he started when he said. My tree was big and deaad and hung over into my neighbor's yard. He is a hard worker and goes above and beyond. He cleaned up limbs in my yard as well as the neighbors yard. He even went as far as to clean my gutter of the tree material. He trimmed several branches on my pine tree in the front yard that were hanging too low. I had him grind the large tree stump and he also removed a small stump in the front yard. I was pleased with the job he did and would reccomend Neil for any tree services.

I had a tree in the backyard that was interfering with power cables going from the house to the pole. They were resting on the cable and as fall/winter approached I'm sure they only would have been heavier. This is a recent purchase and the inspector said it should be dealt with. Rob responded to my request quickly and fairly, we worked out a time he could come look at it to discuss any issues and nail down a price. He hauled away the tree branches that he cut and cleaned up nicely. Would recommend to anyone.

I had to have my backyard completely torn out, leveled, and have sod installed. HGO went above and beyond by also trimming my trees and putting in a BEAUTIFUL rock path. The job was done very well and very quickly. I intend to hire them again in June to install a fence and rebuild my porch.

I hired Brian to tear out my jungle of a backyard in preparation for when we do sprinklers, grass, etc. We had multiple trees (one being very large), cement "features", bushes, and more. He cleared it out very quickly and my yard no longer looks like it has been abandoned! 5/5 would hire again

We were so impressed with G&M Landscape & Tree service! We needed a lot of work done FAST. They went above and beyond to expedite our service to get it done and done right. They don't stop until you are satisfied with their work, when you are happy, they are happy! They put in our sod, flagstone steps and extended a sprinkler valve box. They had to level out our yard, bring sand in and level the flagstone, bring top soil for the sod and remove the existing grass, and move a lot of dirt! We have had a lot of projects going on in our yard this summer and have hired over 7 other crews & contractors and G&M has been the best by far. They get it done and get it done right! I highly recommend them, they were a pleasure to work with!

Joe and his crew did an excellent job! The tree that needed trimming is tall and very large. It's also difficult to get to due to a fence and a swing set. But Joe and his crew got the job done in a safe and timely manner. The pricing was very fair. They are professional and did exactly what we asked. We will be using Joe and his team again in the future!

Mark did an awesome job on my tree he trimmed 4-5 feet off the top and around the sides; he also raised the canopy 6 feet all around except for 8 feet on the road side. He didn’t try to gouge us on the price, I thought his fee was very fair and reasonable. We live in Washington State but keep our house in Layton, UT. I have many friends between Layton and Salt Lake and if they ever need tree service you can believe that I would defiantly recommend Mark. I have 4 other trees on my property in Layton so Mark will be hearing from me again soon, you can bet on that. Thanks again Mark for the great work you did on my tree!

Very happy with the tree removal service! They also cleared out a medium sized flowerbed while they were here. Very good value, he gave a good estimate and they nailed the timeframe. They also recognized what kind of tree I had and knew how best to deal with it to avoid future problems. Super happy with the work, will definitely contact again when I need help in the future

Gavin did a great job cleaning up the trees in my yard. Before he finished, he took the time to ask if I wanted anything else done, and he was happy to do the one last thing I asked him to do.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
