Daniel was the officiant for our wedding recently in Virginia Beach. This was the best day of our lives and Daniel's warm and caring nature made it all the more special for us and our family. He was very good at his duties and was a great person to talk with, we had a beautiful ceremony on the beach and we were thrilled that Daniel was able to stay for our reception and get to know our friends and family a bit more. We were very happy and recommend him highly:)

We booked Marian and Mike for a second wedding for only an hour as we really only wanted some family pictures as it was a rare occasion to have the entire family together. Mike was personality plus. Very well liked by our guests and very efficient. He took all of the pictures we wanted and then some. We had delivery of our CD a week after we returned from our honeymoon. We would highly recommend them to anyone whether the job was small, as ours was, or very large as I am certain they would do just as good a job.

Priscilla did an amazing job. We gave her an idea of what we wanted and she went above and beyond. She took her time but yet finished in the time she said it would take. My daughter was so comfortable and so happy in how her hair & makeup turned out we are hiring her for Prom next year.

Pam was an amazing person to work with. She made figuring out the timeline of our wedding super easy and responded in a timely matter. There were apparently technical difficulties at the beginning of our ceremony when it came to the wedding party walking down the aisle, which is okay. It was resolved. My only real issue was the fact that one of the two DJs were constantly on their phone. The other DJ was absolutely awesome - was cool about changing the cake cutting time and was just very accommodating.

Parker was truly amazing to work with! He was so responsive before our big day came and always open to hearing our vision and ideas while also telling us about his personal style and describing what he thought would work for us. It genuinely felt like he was excited to be a part of our big day, and so many of our wedding guests talked about how kind and professional he was. Every time I looked at him he was beaming! He was so flexible when it came to the day of the events, whether it was schedule changes or impromptu filming, he was right there and ready to handle it. He was even able to incorporate a drone for our ceremony! In the best way, I didn't even notice he was there half of the time- which helped him to capture all of us in our natural elements I'm sure! He worked so well with our photographer and they just met the day of. I absolutely CANNOT wait to see his finished product but I know that it will be amazing!

We hired Ed almost one year ago for our wedding. We live in FL and the wedding was in VA. That made planning a little more difficult than normal and since we didn't have a church we found a pastor online. At first, I was hesitant. I mean- we'd be married by someone we had never met in person. This turned out to be of little concern as we got to know Ed. He invested countless hours over the last year on us- getting to know us, skyping, phone calls, making sure everything was running smoothly. Day of the wedding he came and saw me first and he made everyone feel comfortable. The ceremony was absolutely perfect. He took everything he learned about us and worked his magic. Everyone kept saying how lovely the ceremony was and they thought he was an old family friend. He stuck around and met family and ate dinner. He was absolutely the perfect officiant for us. Not only was he there for us on our day but I know he will be there for us in the future if we ever needed him. He is prompt at answering you and never misses an appointment. Thanks Ed! You're awesome!!

James did great with my wedding ceremony and reception! He was a great value for the entire run down of services he offered. He built relationships with my and my husband to offer the best possible music selection. The uplighting he provided for our reception added a special touch to our decorations.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.
