I had a bunch of doors, pipes, styrofoam, electronics, paint cans. Carefully packed John showed up with 2 other guys, polite and professional. It was hard to price the load ahead of time so we negotiated quickly on the spot. I helped them load the truck and we were done in under 15 minutes. Fair price, good communication, junk is gone -- what more can you ask for!

Emily and Cam just completed an exterior painting project on our house. They were very knowledgeable, honest and did what it took to make us happy. We have wood framed windows and they even came back to cut around the edges even after they had already been paid. They were great to work with.

Dan did painting of my front door stair and did power washing of the deck, driveway, garage floor, and some other places. Not only that his work is professionally and thoroughly done, his communication, attitude of service is entirely above my expectation starting from the beginning. I contacted him long (couple months) before the actual work time, yet he was patient throughout the time visiting my house multiple times and providing detailed quotes, taking lots of photos about any possible work area (even though we ended up only doing a portion of them per his suggestion), and explaining all the details to me. In the end I am super satisfied with his work. I would highly recommend Dan to anyone considering painting or power washing!

Steve Dahlin has worked for and alongside my spouse and I for more than ten years in many facets of restoration and renovation of our historic property, such as carpentry, siding installation, painting, repairing and restoring historic floors and thresholds, windows, and exterior and interior historic moldings. The projects we've worked on together have focused on jobs both small and large on the renovation of our two-hundred-year-old historic house and barn. Steve has brought his expertise and long experience to solving the often sticky problems that emerge when restoring, preserving, renovating, and replicating historic features. One project particularly stands out: We had found an original, historic window in terrible disrepair and deterioration that we wanted to restore and put back into its original location. Every other contractor, window supplier, etc., that we spoke to told us that the window was beyond repair and that we should discard it and purchase a new one. Steve, however, took on the job and did a fabulous job of restoring the window to not only its former beauty but also its functionality. Steve impresses us with his willingness to come out and help us even when the jobs are very small. Steve has recently worked with us on repairing our historic barn, and we've been very pleased with the result.

I will hire Jeff again, and again and again. He went above and beyind expectations. He was on time, did and did an amazing job painting my house. I love it that he communicates clearly, asks questions about what I wanted done and what I expected. He answered all of my questions in detail and professionally. I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job.. I have to say that I not only like and respect Jeff, I also trust him because he worked hard and completed a difficult job on time. To me saying that I like, trust and will recommend and rehire is the highest compliment and recommendation that I can give.

Joseph was very good at communicating. Our project was not an easy one with numerous crazy angles and pitches. The crew flew through the installation of drywall and where pretty impressive. Scott came in to do the taping and mudding and we are utterly impressed. The detail needed to complete this master suite conversion with precision was achieved and I would recommend using Yes Dear Painting. It is wonderful to work with such positive people working to bring your vision to reality.

I can't put into words how much I appreciate Chuck Reger of Protect Painting. A year ago he/his company painted the trim on my house. Last week I called him to tell him that I was having some problems and could he look at my problem not only did he show up he fixed one of problems but suggested someone else to fix the other problem. He is a great person very personable and goes beyond the norm to help with your problem even if it's not his responsibility. I applaud him. Thank you Chuck soooooo much!!!

I had hired a different contractor who started job and bailed. Brian at craftsman construction saved me! I had them convert garage space into a bonus room. They also did a lot of sheetrock and sheetrock repair plus the entire house finish work/trim and painted walls and all doors. They did an impressive job, I would highly recommend!

Joe from Green Enterprise just completed painting our house and kitchen cabinets and I couldn’t be happier. Him and his wife did an amazing job. They were very professional, trustworthy, helpful, reasonable and knows what they are doing. Despite our crazy schedule and some complication with our cabinets they delivered the job on quickly, with the price we agreed on and quality work. I hired Joe after interviewing several painters for the job because 1) he was reasonable, 2) personable, and 3) felt comfortable giving him the key to my house. In the end, I am very glad I did. I am very happy with the work him and his wife did. I couldn't ask for a better service. Would I use him again? Most definitely. Would I recommend his services to my family and friends? Yes 100%. I appreciate all the hard work that both of them provided including teaching me a little about painting.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
