Let me start off by saying, Andi is an incredible teacher. No, he is not magic; but he is capable of steering your guitar education in the right direction. I played guitar on-and-off for many years, it has been lackluster for the most part. Over the years, I’ve watched thousands of guitar lessons on the blackhole that is known as Youtube. Sure, I gained some knowledge, but in a very disjointed way that didn’t seem to push my guitar playing forward. My practice sessions were ineffective and I never seemed to follow a logical path to achieve my goals. I wonder how many self-taught guitarists are in the same boat? Then I started taking lessons with Andi. With some effort (and an instructor to motivate and direct), I begun to truly learn and understand things that I’d been too lazy to tackle in the past (modes, inversions, picking exercises). I’m somewhat embarrassed to say, until I took lessons with Andi; I never completely learned a song. I would pick up fragments of songs, and then move on to the next flavor of the week. Andi will spend weeks (if necessary) reviewing the material with you. He’ll break whatever solo or song you wish to learn down into bite-sized chunks; he’ll even send you slowed down mp3’s to help you learn the material. Trust me, this is very beneficial when learning the subtle nuances that make your favorite guitarist special (Prince, Nile Rodgers, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler). I have no way of really quantifying the improvement that happened while taking lessons with Andi, but my personal satisfaction has gone through the roof. My fingers and wrists are stronger, my technique has tightened, and my 16th note strumming is getting ridiculously funky these days. I could sing praises about Andi for days, but you don’t you want to try him out and see how it works for you.
Garrick is very patient and engaging with our 7yo son. Our son loves his guitar lessons and wants to play. He's the real deal with his own gigs and he teaches using music we love. Garrick gets 5 stars because he unexpectedly requested to join us when we purchased our guitar, picked an appropriate used(!) one with metal strings and had it modified to bring the frets in closer for small fingers. His lessons feel customized. We recommend Garrick!
David has been teaching our son for a while now and we can't imagine having a better teacher for him. Excellent teacher: skilled, patient, creative. Our son looks forward to his guitar lessons each week and he wouldn't have come this far without David.
Sedat is an excellent teacher for my 10 year old. He has lots of patience and knows how to teach kids. He is able to help with easier ways to teach chords and makes the class enjoyable. My child loves his class and he encourages to pick their favorite songs to play. I would highly recommend Sedat for kids guitar lessons.
I purchased bass guitar lessons for my Dad with Dylan. Dylan was very thoughtful and responsive. My Dad has had 3 lessons so far and loves it. He had been learning on his own and says things make sense now and he also appreciates the music theory that Dylan incorporates into the lessons. He and I recommend Dylan.
Playing guitar has always been a dream of mine and liz helped me make that dream come true. Through her weekly guitar lessons I learned the chords and strumming patters to play all kinds of songs. I'm Learning one right now to play for a surprise birthday party I'm throwing for My husband. He is definitely going to. Be surprised when he hears how well I play. Thanks liz for helping me get started on mybucket list with very enjoyable lessons guitar lessons.
I have been receiving guitar lessons from Dave for about 4-5 months now and it has done wonders for my playing ability and understanding of music in general. He is a super nice guy and an incredibly persistent instructor. He is both encouraging and rigorous; a great combination that has yielded fantastic results for me personally. Such a patient guy too, great with younger musicians who may just be starting out. Highly recommend you check him out if you're looking to get into guitar, piano, mandolin or ukelele; first lesson is free, so see for yourself if he might be a good fit for you.
My 11 year old son and now my 8 year old son have been taking guitar lessons with Judy, and really enjoy them. Judy is patient, flexible and fun. Highly recommended.
Learning guitar with Forrest has been amazing so far. After trying to teach myself for a month or so, Forrest made me feel so good about the things I was able to learn on my own. He kindly critiques my habits and instils in me a confidence that I never thought I would have as a guitar player. I'm excited to learn more.
Rick is a great guitar teacher at any level. He can teach everything from theory to practical playing and make it fun. I highly recommend him if you want to learn the correct way of playing.
We first met Seth when we signed our son Mark up for Bandworks. We were so impressed with Seth's energy, patience and infectious love for music that we signed Mark up with Seth for private drum lessons. Seth is a wonderful teacher, especially with young children. He is incredibly patient and encouraging, and always makes the lessons fun and relevant. We are now in our second Bandworks session with Seth, and Mark couldn't be happier. We would highly recommend Seth to anyone who's serious about learning (and loving) their craft.
I've known Chris for about 3 years, first as a friend from the neighborhood who shared a passion for the same type music as myself and now as a mentor to my son teaching him guitar and how to be an all round cool guy. His teaching style is totally laid back and covers all types of music.......best illustrated by catching his group "Hibbity Dibbity"in action at many a local venue! Do yourself a favor and let Chris take the stuffiness out of learning! Iainmackinlay
We have been working with Ms. White since January 2016. My boys, ages 6 and 7 walked out of their very first lesson knowing “Mary Had A Little Lamb” and this quick, concrete “take away” gave them a sense of excitement and confidence! Ms. White is very thoughtful with her instruction. She has realistic and responsive goals--like helping accommodate a variety of sports seasons and understanding the difference between her student’s temperament and attention span. She has nurtured an intrinsic and age appropriate interest and exposure to the world of piano playing. My boys pick up and play piano on their own and they love teaching their father and me their new skills. I would highly recommend Ms. White for piano lessons.
About Jerry: Jerry knows bass. He knows technique, he knows theory, he knows gear, he knows music history (past and present). Most importantly, he knows how students learn bass and thus he is able to tell you what you need to know and what to practice in oder to improve. My Experience: Jerry immediately found the holes in my technique and gave me a few lessons in bass theory that I hadn't already figured out by trial-and-error and applying theory from other instruments. He gave me exercises to work on to improve my chops and get my playing to a higher technical level. He taught me about the intricacies of the bass instrument and the gear associated in creating bass tone. He gave me songs and bass players to listen to and play along to in order to get the basslines I wrote sounding more mature and appropriate for the style/genre of their songs. And all the while he would immerse me in the culture of bass. Turning me on to the history of the instrument, the evolution of how it has been played through the years, the different styles of playing and how they fit into each genre, and of course the great players of the past and present. His body of knowledge around bass is just staggering. About Me: I'd been playing bass for fun for about 10 years at jams and also for about 6 months in an americana band. I'm also a serious keys player and know my music theory solid. Then I started playing bass in a funk/soul band with more technical players and realized I needed to develop some serious chops to keep up. I chose Jerry because he wasn't a guitar-player teaching bass, he's a died-in-the-wool bass player who had been teaching for years. I wanted a specialist, not someone who was going to teach me basic theory.
Cherie is a great instructor. Before I started lessons with her I was trying to teach myself and found that I’d hit a wall, just wasn’t getting where I wanted to be, she helped me out of that rut. She opened up my options by laying down the basics, then expanded my palette based on where I wanted to go with songs and guitar. She likes to balance what she calls the weigh-lifting of guitar and the fun stuff - exercises and songs. I never felt bored or very frustrated. She pays attention. I really felt she was teaching me what I needed to learn. She also teaches singing lessons and we worked a bit on my vocals during our guitar lessons. Was a nice add-on. She’s a pro and very easy to work with.
I have had guitar lessons with John Lewis for two months now and I have to say without a doubt, he has exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only is he a very talented musician, he also possesses a rare talent for communicating and teaching guitar and musical concepts that are sometimes hard to grasp. He is patient, kind, encouraging, inspirational, and very creative in his teaching style. He knows how to judge exactly how much information I can handle at one time and I never leave feeling overwhelmed. He always makes the lessons interesting, challenging, and FUN! I am so grateful to have found this wonderful teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone from beginner to advanced. He truly is the Best of the Best!!!
Experience is good so far. Only one lesson, but already scheduled a lesson for next week.
I absolutely LOVE working with Michael and learning guitar from him. I've tried many times to learn before, and it's never quite stuck. Michael has a way of making difficult concepts seem easy and I'm finally able to grasp music theory. It's always challenging learning something new because I (as I'm sure a lot of people do) feel silly when I mess up or a little dumb if I don't do something right, and Michael makes me feel comfortable and able to make mistakes and try new chords or scales, or whatever it may be. I HIGHLY recommend hiring Michael if you want to learn guitar or just improve your skills!
My three boys play a mixture of guitar and piano. Ryan keeps them interested in playing songs that they pick and want to play. He has made music a fun part of our household.
Conrad was an incredible teacher for my son. Lessons were always fun and he was very patient, allowing my son to learn at his own pace. My son always looked forward to his lessons as the highlight of his week. Conrad is also very good at teaching a variety of styles from rock to jazz. Highest possible recommendation.
I had been teaching myself guitar for a few years now, and found that I had reached a plateau in my learning. I was looking for a guitar teaching who could fill in the blanks and take me to the next level. Michael listened to my goals, and created a curriculum that was specific to me and my learning needs. He knows that guitar is not "one size fits all", so he creates his own professional worksheets and method. Michael is full of tricks to make learning easier, and is excited about playing. He would be a great teacher for any age or level. Thanks, Michael!
