"We hired GMBC to remodel our kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a master closet. We interviewed 6 other contractors before we chose GMBC. What sold us was how easy it was to talk to Eli. He was always open to our ideas and also offered his input without being too pushy. After we chose GMBC, Eli drafted a statement of work that broke down the job according to room. After a couple of adjustments, we were ready to begin. Although the end result was fantastic, getting there was a bit tough at times. Like most renovations, we experienced a number of delays and setbacks. We were told the job would take 6-8 weeks but it actually took 4 months. A lot of the directions or requests we were giving to Eli weren't being communicated to the crews, so things wouldn't be done correctly and had to be redone. Sometimes they would need items that weren't communicated to us until we checked in asking why something wasn't done as scheduled. Inspections took a few rounds that dragged on for over a month. Some of the delays may have been our fault - we probably could've made things easier by hiring an architect to draw up detailed plans of everything; locations of outlets, lights, switches, fixtures, etc. But for the most part, the biggest issue seems to be a lack of communication/project management. GMBC uses different teams of people to do specific jobs and sometimes we felt they weren't on the same page. Fortunately, we happened to be living downstairs during the remodeling, which allowed us to survey the work at the end of each day and catch certain things before they went too far in the wrong direction. Not sure how much more difficult it would've been if we hadn't been there. Also, we had mentioned to Eli this was our first remodel so advice and communication was pretty key for us since we had no idea what was expected. That said, Eli and his crew were always courteous, positive, and obliged to make corrections whenever requested; a huge plus. The foreman, Armando, was great. When he was onsite, things always went smoothly. Their tiler was exceptional as well. He went above and beyond with some complicated tiles, and did an incredible job. We get so many compliments on our tile work. All in all, we couldn't be happier with the results. The quality of work is great and our home looks amazing. Everybody came together to make our vision a reality."

"Bert is an environmentalist, artist, designer and contractor all rolled into one. He is not only an amazing and thoughtful person, but he also delivers the highest quality work. Bert will carefully work with you, to collaborate and discuss your specific living or lifestyle needs, and then, he will come up with a beautiful and artistic design that considers all of your functional and budgetary needs. In our case, we didn’t have a lot of time to discuss and plan because we wanted to return our space to being livable again after a disaster, yet we were still able to achieve a completed project within a reasonable time frame, stay on budget and achieve a simply elegant aesthetic. Bert really cannot be compared to any average contractor. He is very easy to communicate with, and works very hard to achieve the best results. You will be his utmost priority as his client. One of the most impressive outcomes of our project was the reconfiguration of space we achieved in our bathroom and the final design aesthetic. Previous to the renovation, we had a large 1960s style upstairs bathroom, with a door separating our laundry unit and sink area from our toilet and shower/bath area. Bert suggested some major changes that had a huge positive impact on the project. He recommended that we replace our large, old inefficient separate washer and dryer with a stackable unit we could fit in a small closet. By doing this, we were able to knock out a wall and door that completely opened up and changed the layout of the space such that we could now fit an elegant walk-in standing shower and a completely separate copper Japanese-style soaking tub. In addition, he replaced the door that opened into the entry way of the bathroom with a Japanese style slider door, and as a result, we achieved more usable space in the bathroom, and also had more radiant light coming into our once dark hall way. In terms of the sink area, he replaced our single sink with an elegant and modern double sink custom-designed floating vanity made of quartzite on quartzite on top and with a reclaimed wood look on the drawers. The overall design of our new bathroom is truly the bathroom of our dreams, and is honestly a treasure. The space is still warm and inviting, but also healing, with a zen-like quality. One other very impressive quality of our renovation was the way he was able to help us transform our space with looking closely at details and high-quality craftsmanship in his work. In the case of our living area, he replaced the door to our veranda with an elegantly designed new glass slider, and removed the old window treatments from the inside, such that our living area now opens right into our outside space with a clear view of our garden-like terrace. The transformation simply was incredible, from dark to light, and from closed to open concept. In terms of craftsmanship, we were most impressed with Bert’s staff and how they were able to handle small details so carefully, such that the overall impact was huge. For example, the Bert’s staff was able to achieve beautiful results in our bathroom due to the high quality of their grout and tile work. In addition, they were able to repair cracked vintage tile in our fireplace that helped us to restore the appealing aspects of our 1960s vintage-like space. Furthermore, in Bert’s staff work around completing our flooring, they were able to completely replace all of our old floorboards, with more modern style and match our original paint seamlessly. As you can see, with Bert’s staff, hard work, dedication and know-how, you cannot go wrong with this choice!!!"
