I was apprehensive when I selected Aguilar roofing, since they were not local, I have dealt with contractors before and very few of them do what they promise when they promise. Ubaldoa did what he said he would on his estimate and did it very professionally and in the time frame he promised. I would recommend Aguilar roofing to anyone that needs new roof and gutters they talked the talk, and walked the walk at a price that was truly competitive. Happy in Santa Rosa with a new roof, and gutters Richard Smith

Max was a professional young man who knows his job well. He came in and evaluated the project not only to his benefit but ours as well. Listened to what we had in mind and mentioned a few ideas of his own. We had a poor poor poor tile job done in our bathroom (shower and flooring) and kitchen (flooring) a couple years ago and it brought problems not only like the appeal of it but also mold and cracks, now that we are COMPLETELY satisfied with that we will move on to having other areas of our house redone and will be hiring Max and his team!

I was really happy with the results of this roofing project. Carlos, the project manager and supervising roofer, came to my house to assess the work and give me an estimate quickly. He was prompt, professional, and very knowledgable. He was able to quickly assess the issue and suggest a remedy. Within 48 hours, he supplied estimate with 3 separate options for the project. He was easy to reach when I had questions and once I accepted the bid, the work was scheduled quickly. On the work day, he and his crew showed up right on time and work was completed on time and as promised. Carlos is a nice guy, straightforward and professional all the way. Would definitely hire again.

Because we are considering listing our home in the near future, I wanted to get my own inspections done before dealing with any realtors, and be able to fix whatever I could myself ahead of time. Monte was on-time, professional, thorough, and honest with what needed to be done. I used him for all three inspections: home, roof, and pest. His package price was very competitive. VERY PLEASED.

Jon came to my house to clean the gutters and investigate the reason of roof leak we had. He cleaned the gutters and sealed in one area where it was rusted. Even though he couldn’t find the real reason of the leak, he carefully looked around, and explained what he did to identify the issue. He saw only minor issues, which were not the likely culprit. He took pictures to show us what he saw. He did not try to sell us a random and costly solution, which might not even fix the leak. He referred us to another roofer, who could better help. Jon was easy to communicate with, and was punctual, and professional. I would recommend working with him

We just bought our home and had a roof inspection that said we should be OK for another 3-5 years. We got a leak within the first month during the first bit of rain. I was frantic about finding someone to come out today. I called Ray and he said he could meet me at my home within 30 minutes. He almost beat me home. He had his men up on the roof checking for problem areas. They were able to glue down some loose areas. I felt that Ray knew roofing and trusted his advice and suggestions with repair and eventual re roofing. We will be contacting him again for any future roofing needs first.

Our new roof looks great! Roof Life Company did a fantastic job. Our previous roof was shake, so they had to tear off the old roof, put up radiant barrier plywood, and add more insulation to the attic before starting with the actual shingles. We also had new gutters and gutter guards installed as well as a weather vane. The workers were all very polite and seemed to know what they were doing. The re-roofing started a little later than we thought and took a little longer, but the extreme heat caused delays. Joshua brought out samples of the different gutter guards, and even allowed us to change the color of the gutters we had originally picked. I liked that there wasn't a hard sales pitch and it was easy to get in touch with the company when we had questions. It hasn't rained yet, but we're not expecting any problems.

I replaced my old shake roof with a composite roof. When I had the shake roof I had several leaks in the roof which damaged my ceiling dry wall at several upstairs locations. I contracted with Daryl's Handyman Service to repair the damaged drywall areas. Daryl completed the repairs with excellent workmanship. The most major repair was performed on the master bedroom bathroom ceiling. Daryl's work in the bathroom was exceptional as shown in the attached photos. Daryl not only repaired the drywall damage but he also painted the entire bathroom using his own initiative. Our bathroom looks great. My wife and I are very pleased. Daryl also performs fence repair work. We plan to contract with him in June or July to perform over 140 feet of fence repair. I highly recommend Daryl for any home repair needs.

Rob was great. He first came over to quote for the job and provided a more comprehensive solution to the problem than the other roofer that quoted. He showed up on time a few days later and completed the job in a couple of hours. Highly recommended!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
