Our family was looking for a chef to prepare weekly dinners. We were new to this and Sat was extremely helpful, flexible, and collaborative. He has prepared meals for us twice and were so pleased that he now comes regularly. He works with us to design a weekly menu to suit our family's needs and understands our particular eating habits. It had become challenging to juggle work, activities and cooking, and we grew tired of eating out. This service has allowed us to reduce the amount of stress in planning and preparing meals and decrease worry about eating healthy. We can now enjoy precious time with our children with a delicious home cooked meal.

Everything was amazing! Loved having Graham in our home cooking and helping us entertain friends. Food was delicious and we were so happy to have a clean kitchen at the end of the night. The perfect way to host and be able to enjoy at the same time.

Over the Labor Day weekend I hosted a family reunion for 31 people; some with significant dietary restrictions. Hyson proved to be up for the challenge of meeting all of our needs, providing incredibly diverse and exceptional tasting entree's, side dishes and deserts and all the while maintaining his calming presence. Hyson and his assistance Andrea filled our kitchen with wonderful aromas for the entire weekend, cleaned up beautifully between each meal and had each meal prepared and ready to be served promptly based on the schedule we had all agreed to previously. While Hyson's menu offerings and cooking are exceptional, the best part of working with him is his attitude and approach. Very well prepared and organized and yet able and willing to make changes along the way as needed. This is the second time I've used Hyson - the last being just a small dinner party for 10 - and he has proven quite capable of providing both the intimate formal dinner for a small group as well as multiple meals per day over a long weekend for a sizeable group of 31. For many of you reading this costs may be a huge consideration. I interviewed 3 different caterers before choosing Hyson; costs being a large consideration due to the varying economic standing of my my family members attending. Hyson proved very capable of being able to deliver exceptional meal and exceptional meal at a very reasonable price. If you are looking for someone to cook onsite - one meal of a 3 day weekend - you should at least have a conversation with this very talented, passionate and professional man. Most sincerely, Stuart

I had family in-town and so I hired James to cook us a special dinner over Labor Day weekend. On fairly short notice, he put together several menu options that were friendly to a variety of different diet restrictions and preferences. I had the hardest time choosing what to have, but James was very accommodating and responsive! We had a very diverse menu of tuna poke, calamari, lobster salad, rib eye, and cauliflower. Additionally, I requested a special dessert at the last minute and he was more than happy to accommodate. Highly recommend James for his expertise in what he does and his professionalism. Would hire him again in a heartbeat!

So glad we found Dan's company on this website. From the first point of contact he was completely on top of everything. At first we wanted to have a cooking class, but after talking with him about the other types of experiences he could offer, we went with a demonstration/dinner party which was so much better than an actual class. We went with the Cotogna inspired menu and got to learn just as much, while spending time with our friends drinking wine. Perfect night!

Jon, and his assistant Danny, catered a sit down dinner for 24. The menu included several appetizers, salad, Filet Mignon and lobster with fingerling potatoes and veggies, and a homemade raspberry filled buttercream cake (as requested) for my husbands 70th birthday. Everything was perfect!!!!!! Exceeded our expectations. Not only was everything amazing but Jon and Danny couldn’t have been any nicer. Several of my guests are already arranging to use them for their upcoming events. We would definitely use them again. They made my husbands 70th so special. Could t be happier.

*I have now taken two Indian cooking classes from Meenu Bhasin. In the first cooking class she made chicken korma, lentils and a yogurt side dish. These dishes were about a medium level of difficulty to prepare. Meenu was very thorough in explaining and showing each step of the cooking process. She also included a list of all the ingredients and spices, and where to purchase them. In the second class we made chicken tikka masala, saag paneer and rice with vegetables. Meenu is very good at teaching the preparation and cooking process of each dish. She goes over the ingredients and the entire process very carefully. She also leaves plenty of time for questions and discussion. I really enjoyed taking her classes and learned a lot about Indian cooking. I strongly recommend her as a cooking teacher/chef.*

We hired Karla for a long weekend of cooking breakfast and dinner for 10-16 people at each meal at our home in Santa Cruz. We didn't know what to expect entirely, but Karla was more than we hoped for. Super nice, very punctual, very honest, gives a good value for the money and most of all Karla is a truly wonderful chef. She can cook anything you can imagine and she does it all well. Our dinners included perfectly cooked New York steaks, lasagna, vegetables, lots of items for carb-conscious folks, etc. Her menus were fantastic and we have a ton of great food. Best of all Karla cleans up. I would give Karla 10 stars on a 5 star chart. Some of the others took pictures of the "spread" Karla created so I don't have those handy to post. Karla is a gem in Santa Cruz and we will be using her in the future. Dave & Lynn and Cindy & John Santa Cruz, CA

My friends and I hired Julian for a mixology lesson, and he was simply outstanding! Julian suggested two great cocktails - the sazerac and the cherry blossom flip - and did a great job teaching, bartending, and creating a chill and fun atmosphere. He truly is jubilant - his warmth, sparkling personality, quick wit, and enthusiasm for his craft made for a truly memorable evening!

Marisa was to help 20 women at a wedding shower cook 4 meals to be served for lunch. Her menu was fabulous, and her generosity of spirit in working with me phenomenal-a bit disorganized at the site, but there were a lot of people and instruction for the cooking was difficult. It didn't help that timing to get there by all, including her, was compromised by the Bay to Breakers race!

I booked a cooking class with Veena as a gift for my mom's birthday and was extremely happy with the experience! We learned how to make an incredible four-course Indian meal that Veena personally altered to our tastes (i.e. lactose intolerance, healthy substitutes, love of cilantro). She was so delightful to cook with and enjoy the company of. I would advise this class to everyone!

Jessica is the ULTIMATE in-home chef. It is hard to know where to begin. First, my husband and I loved the fact that every dish Jess made for us was healthy, delicious, and with a little twist of "something extra." Any veggie or "super food" you've been wanting to try but never knew how - Jess can take and whip up something fun, inventive, and satisfying. She was keen on tailoring menus to our specific taste preferences. When Jess cooked for us after our son was born, she was also knowledgeable about what foods would be best for a new mommy...to aid stamina, healing, or the feeling of being totally well-cared-for. She was a huge help with meal planning as well, and left our home with a refrigerator-full of meals with clear and easy instructions for prep. In addition, Jess has prepared the food for a number of our dinner parties (6-8 people) and a family gathering (30+ people). Aside from an insanely delicious and memorable meal/spread, Jess is just simply the kind of person you want to have around. Her optimism, cheerfulness, and can-do attitude is contagious! Since having Jess as our "personal chef," my husband and I now put some of our cooking lessons to use on a daily basis...homemade almond milk, anyone? We wish we could have Jess cook EVERY meal for us! She will leave your family feeling full, happy, healthy, and ready to take on the kitchen.

I took a cooking class with Inbal and a small group of friends and was very satisfied by the experience. Inbal is extremely knowledgable and was very gracious and answered all of our silly questions. There was so much very basic info we didn't know! The biggest benefit for me was learning how to keep cooking simple. I tend to over think things and end up getting overwhelmed. Cooking isn't as scary anymore. I would definitely recommend her classes.

Cooking with Bryson is, above all things, a lot of fun. He really has a great intuition for determining what ingredients go well with each other, and he’s got a great sense of humor that makes the entire experience a real joy. One of the best things we made together were some simple but delicious hand-cut potato chips, and truly I’ll be asking him to help cater my wedding with some of those things! They were SO good. If you’re looking for a professional but simultaneously laidback and joyful cooking experience, contact Bryson. I’ll be recommending him to friends!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
