I had about 16 feet of my roof that did not have a gutter. It is November, so I understand that is the busy season for this type of work. Most other companies either gave super high estimates or scolded me about how busy they are and why didn't I do this in the summer. Jose was very responsive and squeezed me in his schedule within a day. He came early and even performed another task I had while he was here. Really appreciated his professionalism.

Replacing a roof is major project with serious expenses. I recommend anyone considering a similar project to seek out G.T. Roofing. From start to finish G.T. Roofing met and exceeded my expectations. I met with G.T. Roofing just two times to inspect the job site and discuss the details of the work. A few email exchanges later, a written contract was delivered and the project was a go. The whole process was painless. Once the job was scheduled a crew came early on a Saturday morning, tore out the old roof, cut out new attic vents and laid down a new roof system. The new gutters tied the entire roof system to the house and looks like decorative molding. Since the installation in mid -October, my new roof system has already been tested by rain, wind and record temperatures. It performed so much better than my old roof. My roof design is aesthetically perfect and the circulation and moisture inside the house has greatly improved. When the crew first arrived I knew they would be prepared and organized. G.T. Roofing has the knowledge, the means, and the skills to design and complete a project to my specifications. I don’t doubt they can handle even larger residential and commercial projects with the same professional level of execution. If you care about your home, you want a contractor who cares just as much. I am thrilled with the work by G.T. Roofing!

We hired Eli for a total interior renovation of our newly purchased home, including changing the layout of our first floor, adding a half bath, 2 full bath and 1 kitchen reno, hardwood floor, HVAC, roofing, repiping & electrical work. Total value of the project exceeded 140K, and lasted ~ 4 months. Eli & team delivered good quality work and kept us at our budget. He is a professional with high integrity. He was always responsive, provided helpful, thoughtful and truthful advice, and committed to his promises. Our journey together wasn't without hiccups, but Eli is someone you can trust as a partner battling any challenges together along the way.

I would recommend Mendez Personal roofing to everyone for the following reasons: quick response back, speedy next day service, they take pics and advise you if something needs to be replaced & afterwards send a pic back with the new replacement part affixed, price is real good and the service was excellent. My gutters are clean and my leak into my home from the harsh storms is no longer there. I'm also a Realtor and very picky of whom I use. I will reccommend all my future clients/frnds/family to use Mendez Personal Roofing! I'm a very satisfied customer.

I cannot explain how grateful I am to have met Economy Home repair through this app. They were fast, friendly, and the service was impeccable. I had recently been working to restore a 1912 Craftsman style bungalow in Oakland, and then accepted a job in another state. Bad planning for me, but luckily I had Thumbtack and Economy Home Repair there for me. They we're first contracted to remove the aluminum siding that was wrapped around the house, then, we needed them to fix or replace any damaged shingles from the original siding, and then lay a coat of paint over it all! They got that done in a couple weeks!! Later on, I needed their help to finish up some tile work, and to put up some Sheetrock in the 2nd floor. They got that done with no hesitation. Again, I cannot be more grateful for that team. They deserve 100 stars.

I was really happy with the results of this roofing project. Carlos, the project manager and supervising roofer, came to my house to assess the work and give me an estimate quickly. He was prompt, professional, and very knowledgable. He was able to quickly assess the issue and suggest a remedy. Within 48 hours, he supplied estimate with 3 separate options for the project. He was easy to reach when I had questions and once I accepted the bid, the work was scheduled quickly. On the work day, he and his crew showed up right on time and work was completed on time and as promised. Carlos is a nice guy, straightforward and professional all the way. Would definitely hire again.

Jon came to my house to clean the gutters and investigate the reason of roof leak we had. He cleaned the gutters and sealed in one area where it was rusted. Even though he couldn’t find the real reason of the leak, he carefully looked around, and explained what he did to identify the issue. He saw only minor issues, which were not the likely culprit. He took pictures to show us what he saw. He did not try to sell us a random and costly solution, which might not even fix the leak. He referred us to another roofer, who could better help. Jon was easy to communicate with, and was punctual, and professional. I would recommend working with him

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
