Arisel came out to do a number of tasks around the house that had been left too long and were just too much for me to get my head around. He's smart, flexible, listens to what I want, and works hard and fast. I won't hesitate to hire him again. - Built a firewood box - Hung a huge heavy awkward mirror - Caulked and resealed shower and frameless shower doors - Repaired broken sliding shower door - Moved a complicated chandelier from one location to another - Installed three pendant lights in perfect location and arrangement

Franco's roofing shows up as promised and delivers quality with a reasonable price. They spotted multiple trouble areas in my old roof, communicated clearly what's needed to fix them and provided before/after photos to show how it was done. This comes with a two-year, transferrable warranty, which can stretch to 15 with future service. Gerardo is super friendly and professional and knows his stuff. I will absolutely hire him again for any future roof maintenance.

Bay Area has experienced harsh weather during 2016/17. I had a Rental unit which sections of the roof had torn off. Lots of wind and a down poor was in play. Within 24 hours GT Roofing not only had me a quote, but was on site with tools and materials in hand. Did a great job fixing the roof. Customer Service was excellent and the craftsmanship was top notch. Would defiantly recommend and will use in the future.

I had my gutters cleaned. Way overdue; wanted done sooner rather than later. This operation is a male/female team (married couple?). Caroline is the admin/scheduling & clean up, Christian provides the rooftop labor. She told me they might be able to fit me in the next day, but unsure because of existing project/ unknown completion time. Caroline kept me informed of their progress the whole day, so communication was great. Price was very fair (cash or check). Actual service was fast. He scooped out the junk from gutters and off the roof; she swept it up/bagged it & they took it away. Also offered to hose off the exterior walls. Only thing I was not able to confirm is whether he/they have a contractor's license, something I always check for anything I do on my house. Thumbtack was utterly useless for that purpose; I was told by them that they leave it to the pro to list any info they want - Thumbtack apparently does NOT independently verify anything about their referrals. So, these folks showed up and he was literally on my roof, getting busy before I could even ask. She had called (I didn't hear phone from other room), then knocked on the door, asked for a broom and also got very busy, he was already on the roof. Not necessarily everything requires a license, but someone who does "roofing" should have one and the insurance/ bonding protections that go with it. And he/they may in fact have it, I just couldn't confirm it and I didn't press because it was just a gutter cleaning. Happily, there were no negative matters that may have raised insurance or bonding issues. Well, at least not that I know of - I didn't exactly climb onto the roof to check! (Reminds me: should have/could have asked for some cell phone pics of his work; that would've been easy ...) But I know the work was done because actual seedlings of some kind growing out of the gutters were visible from outside (!!) and are all gone. Also, I watched as TONS of junk came flying off in front of my living room window, and from back onto my deck and on the sides onto walkway pavement. I would definitely use them again for gutters and probably ask for pics of work performed in places I can't get to. Very pleasant and professional.

I was really happy with the results of this roofing project. Carlos, the project manager and supervising roofer, came to my house to assess the work and give me an estimate quickly. He was prompt, professional, and very knowledgable. He was able to quickly assess the issue and suggest a remedy. Within 48 hours, he supplied estimate with 3 separate options for the project. He was easy to reach when I had questions and once I accepted the bid, the work was scheduled quickly. On the work day, he and his crew showed up right on time and work was completed on time and as promised. Carlos is a nice guy, straightforward and professional all the way. Would definitely hire again.

Daniel is professional and punctual. He did a super job from roof inspection to preparing list of materials and then completing the job in time. He worked long hours to complete the roof work as heavy rain was forecast the following day. I recommend Daniel for all types of roofing jobs.

Jon came to my house to clean the gutters and investigate the reason of roof leak we had. He cleaned the gutters and sealed in one area where it was rusted. Even though he couldn’t find the real reason of the leak, he carefully looked around, and explained what he did to identify the issue. He saw only minor issues, which were not the likely culprit. He took pictures to show us what he saw. He did not try to sell us a random and costly solution, which might not even fix the leak. He referred us to another roofer, who could better help. Jon was easy to communicate with, and was punctual, and professional. I would recommend working with him

Joe came by on short notice to help me check out a suspected down spout clog issue. He got on the roof, cleared the drains and the rusted screens and made recommendations for solving an issue with our chimney to avoid leaks. Very kind and helpful! I would recommend.

We hired Meir and his team do so our bathroom remodel. For the most part we are happy with the quality of the work. Meir was able to meet with us at odd times due to our odd work hours. We appreciated that. One thing we were surprised to receive at the end of the job was a bill for additional work requested. While there were a few items that we knew were out of scope, like additional hall lights and tiling of a closet, we did not expect to receive an invoice for work we had said we wanted completed during the walk through and before a bid was presented to us. Our understanding is that was baked in our quote. Furthermore, we are not happy with how we have not heard from Meir since they installed the last item. He has failed to return calls or arrange our final inspection. The bathrooms were finished a month ago. We had a few other projects that we were going to request his work on and now that tie is severed.

Rob was great. He first came over to quote for the job and provided a more comprehensive solution to the problem than the other roofer that quoted. He showed up on time a few days later and completed the job in a couple of hours. Highly recommended!

Could not have been happier with Israel & Artistry Roofing. They were prompt, professional, good value and fixed the problem and did it right. Not only did they set an appointment ASAP- but he was right on time and was cautious to take his shoes off and respect the home interior. He also allowed me to come up on the roof with him (I really wanted to see the problem) and explained the problem/solution in a straightforward way I understood. The fix was done with experience and obviously by someone who cares about the quality of work.... it was really refreshing to work with a company with integrity.

Had a sudden bad leak on a friday night and sought help through Thumbtack. Rudy's son called me by phone at 10p.m. and said his father would be there on Saturday at 1p.m. to fix it. Rudy showed up, was great, fixed the leak, did an inspection, found more work that needed to be done, and gave me an estimate. My former roofer was Precision Roofing. Screw them. They didn't return the phone calls I made to them until the following Weds. And they were supposed to have done a thorough roof inspection recently, which obviously they didn't do. I recommend McGraw and Sons wholeheartedly. Thanks, Rudy. Thanks, Thumbtack!

Well priced compared to other contractors. Worked with the problem and didn't try to inflate the project, like other contractors tried to do. Glad I went with Wang's roofing. Project took a little longer than expected, and a little rough around the edges, but happy with the end result and would recommend Wang's roofing.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
