My experience with Shape Up Studios was absolutely top notch! I am an avid action sports enthusiast (MTB, Surfing, skiing, climbing etc) and as a result suffered a series of knee and back injuries. Fortunately, none required surgery but I was barred from physical activity for the better part of 6 months. In short, I grew weaker and wider during that time. After extensive rehab with my physical therapists and light physical activity i felt i was ready for strength training to get back in shape and work to get strong for a solid winter. I got cleared by my physician and therapists to do so and started searching for good trainers. Enter Markshane and the team at shape up studios. Markshane took the time and effort to understand where I was coming from, the nature of my injuries and what my goals were. He has an impressive setup with which he can set a biometric baseline and share, in layman's terms, where you stand in a holistic fitness spectrum so you can set realistic goals. It was clear from my first appointment that I had found the right team. Once my goals were set, I was introduced to the person that was going to be working one on one with me for the next 3 months: Manny. To put it bluntly, Manny kicked my ass for 3 months, two times a week. He is a hell of a trainer with a good eye for form and a good sense of how to push his clients so they can get the most out of their workouts. I learned a great deal from this man about form and how to structure workouts to get the most out of them. He was extremely encouraging the entire time and made a point of customizing my workouts with a focus on functional strength that i could use in the activities I love. I went from being scared of a kettle bell swing during my first week to doing deadlifts with confidence and something resembling grace and good form. I lost 7lbs (not bad considering my 3 months included thabksgiving and the holidays) and my back has never felt stronger. Im stoked, my body feels great, and I'm extremely grateful for the work Manny, Markshane and the team put in to help me get my results. The gym itself has everything you could ask for and it has a great vibe. You always have the space to workout comfortably, it has all the bells and whistles, you dont feel judged, everyone is encouraging, and everyone is there to work hard for themselves. The good vibes are key as I feel many gyms have too much of a bro-ey edge to them. At the end of the day though, it comes down to you. How bad do you want it? It will still require hard work on your end, good discipline, good diet (my weakest point and the root cause of not having lost more weight than I could have) and more than anything, good attitude. Go out there and get it people! I'm off to enjoy winter for now but will most likely be back when the Krispy Kremes get the best of me! Rich was such an amazing investment in my life. I was 60lbs overweight and needed motivation and expert guidance to get this fat off! I am an ex college football player and figured I knew how to workout but just needed that push. So, I met each through a friend and let's just say what I thought I knew, I didn't. He showed me so many different exercises and the proper and safe way to reach my goals. His routines were ever changing and he kept it fun. His personality is great, he truly becomes your friend and coach. I lost the 60lbs in 8 months and I feel amazing. He truly is a life changer. His mind for training is one of a kind. The way he combines and create routines is something else and I have learned so much from him. I highly recommend him if you're looking for a trainer who will guide you step by step and give you the proper nutritional advice to reach your goals. Lana is a truly outstanding personal trainer. I have been working with her for over 5 years. She is knowledgeable and keeps up with the latest info & trends in the fitness space, continually adding to her repertoire. In addition to strength training (with weights), core work and aqua running / water fitness, we've started working with TRX (she's TRX certified too). Lana incorporates a scientific, yet fun approach and we train with heart rate monitors (optional), so we have a measure of fitness and strength progression and I am seeing definite results. She works around my injuries so that I am able to continue training consistently. She has developed a very personalized training plan for me, which she adjusts on an ongoing basis, as I progress. No cookie cutter programs here!!! AND, I am now fitter, stronger and more flexible than I have ever been. Lana walks the walk and is an amazing athlete herself. She is dedicated to my health & fitness and while she is always warm and encouraging, she is also firm & focused - always keeping me on track.
I have been training with Wess and so far my experience has been great! He pushes me hard, motivates me to keep pushing forward and works with my crazy work schedule! I highly recommend Wess. He listens to my concerns and customized my workout to fit my level and goals. I just got back into working out and am looking forward to hitting my goals this year!
I recently did a private instruction session with A. Doyle. It was my second time ever doing yoga and I was intimidated by the atmosphere of a gym class. Allison's instruction was the perfect alternative. I didn't feel self-concious at all. I learned classic yoga poses and breathing techniques. She tailored the lesson to my beginner level and was very attune to my particular strengths and limitations. She had alernative poses ready for me in the case that something was too challenging, so I never felt like I "couldn't" do the lesson. She was attentive to correcting my form (making "adjustments") so that I had a good foundation to start on. I feel that in a group class I wouldn't have gotten nearly the personal attention. She takes her time and even repeated the lesson once we were finished (without my asking) so I could try it at a different pace and with my new knowledge. I appreciated that she didn't watch the clock or appear rushed in the least. She seems to truly love what she does and is perfectly suited for private instruction. Her rate is more than fair for the quality of instruction you receive.
I've been doing personal training since 2010 through many different trainers, my all time favorite was with Brittany. I went through a phase where I wasn't conditioned to training, had gained weight and wasn't use to lifting weights. The first time we trained together, I thought it was really weird but she made it of importance about my breathing and posture and didn't just get right back into lifting like I use to. A couple sessions later, I really actually felt a difference because she made it important to recondition myself and make sure that I breathe properly while I train! She not only made me feel physically fit, she was a great person to talk to, and made me feel great while I worked out and constantly pushed me to be a better person. I wouldn't ever want another trainer, and when I'm done with my break from training, Brittany and I are going to be back out there hitting those new PR's!
I hired Tom initially to get in shape for my approaching wedding in Hawaii, which I then continued for 3 months after as the results were excellent. Tom pays attention to your goals, habits, metabolic type, and physical abilities. His diet suggestions and diversity in workout routines kept things interesting and fun (as fun as working out can be at first!) Tom's knowledge of CrossFit training, weights, and various other disciplines set him apart from your typical 24hr fitness trainer. He was willing to be flexible with my work schedule and was always available for a quick call or text. Tom provides encouragement, support, and puts together a solid plan to achieve your goals. I would highly recommend Tom for anyone hesitant or intimidated by the gym and or initial commitment of getting in shape.
I had the privilege to work with Lisa Michele and give her program my highest recommendation! The 90-day program put together by Lisa exceeded all my expectations! She taught me different ways to think about food, in terms of eating and preparing food. We also spent time discussing fitness topics, and even though I live in Phoenix, she was able to prescribe an exercise program that helped me meet my fitness and health goals. I finally lost those stubborn last 10 pounds I struggled to lose, strengthened my upper body and I even ran my first 5K race, with her training program, support, and encouragement. Lisa has a friendly personality, abundant energy, empathetic soul, and is a genuinely good person. Her program really worked for me.

Making the decision to work with Colby Lefebvre ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made. Prior to working with Colby I had always wondered what would happen if I trained like a top pro! How would my body change? What could I achieve? Colby showed me exactly what I could accomplish if I increased my training and changed my eating habits to healthier more nutritional choices. I learned a lot about nutrition and how important combining the way I eat with cardio and resistance training is and it completely changed my way of eating and training, it is not just a diet and workout program anymore, but a lifestyle. I achieved things I never thought possible. Not only did his training sessions lead me to incredible weight loss but it transformed my life forever. Each day I use the principals that Colby taught me and it's kept me on track toward being the best shape of my life. I still have work to do but know I will be successful using what Colby has taught me. It wasn't just Colby's knowledge and expertise that pushed me toward success. It was his kind and empathetic approach. This isn't to say that he didn't push me or hold me accountable but he did so in a way that made me feel comfortable and supported. I didn't feel like some muscle head was just walking though the motions with me collecting a fee, but rather I felt a partner was walking with me on my journey offering support, encouragement, and a genuine desire to see me succeed. If I was having a bad day, he stopped the physical component of our session and took the time to dialogue with me, asking me what was going on in my life, what I was feeling, and how he could help get me back on track. He was always available to answer my questions, even with his busy schedule. I talked to Colby almost everyday during the time he was my trainer and he always gave me his full attention. In my 45 years I've had a few trainers, but none as awesome inspiring as Colby. I have never seen the results accomplished with Colby from any of the other trainers I've gone to. Had I not needed to relocate out of state, I would still be seeing Colby and loving every minute of it. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve they're way of life. ~ Dennis Ewing
Candon is very knowledgeable about all aspects of a good workout - physiology, nutrition, personal weaknesses/challenges. In addition he is super to work with and encouraging along the way. It's great to know that I'm doing what is effective, rather than just random exercise that may or may not be effective - or worse yet, cause harm. Our workout sessions include a good variety of cardio, strength training, and stretching so it doesn't get boring. He is able to give me exercises and routines that address my personal goals and I know I work harder and more effectively with his guidance than I would do on my own.
I have been training with Zack 3 times a week for about 6 months now. Zack is awesome! He is constantly changing up the workouts to best fit my needs and is super flexible to accommodate his clients as best as possible. After having broken my pelvis playing D1 soccer, Zack has been helping me recover through a very specific strength training program. I've definitely seen my strength, mobility, and agility improve since working with him.
So far only been to one training session and nutrition consultation with Tony but he is super awesome! He is helpful, listens, and actually trains you according to your level and needs. Highly recommended!
If you are SERIOUS about becoming the best version of yourself, Jon Sanchez is the man for the job. I am a former Marine who specialized in High Intensity Tactical Training and he definitely gave me the best workouts of my life. He held me to a high standard and it’s hard to find trainers that will do that for the risk of losing them. He will encourage you and push you to better your health. He is also very flexible. I have a job where every week my hours are different and he was always flexible with my hours. I’d highly recommend to anyone no matter what level you are on. He will meet you where you are at with your fitness level and take you to the next level.
I've worked with Roger since April of 2014. I'm a "weekend warrior" and have had a hard time maintaining my own fitness between drills. Roger has helped me not only maintain, but excel. I went from a previous max of 51 pushups in basic training to 78 pushups working with him. I'm also extraordinarily impressed with the number of outstanding professional certifications he holds. I know I'm not simply getting someone who can motivate me, but someone who can help me exercise in the healthy ways I need most. This has been especially helpful as I've undergone physical therapy on my knees; he helps ensure I won't aggravate myself there yet continue to work out. I would recommend anyone to work with Roger first.
Sam is one of the best trainers I have ever worked with. She knows her profession and has helped me improve on my weaknesses and strengths regarding sports performance and on the basketball court training as well. She is worth way more than what she charges and is a great deal for what you get out of it! As a Division one athlete she understood the quality of training I needed and her program exceeded my expectations .
Working with John is great! He's very knowledgeable on strength training and nutrition. And he comes right to you! (I can work out conveniently at the fitness center in our condo community.) Also, his price is very reasonable.

I am on week 11 with training with Tyler. He is overall a great trainer and friend. He is responsiveness is superb as I am able to text him to ask him any questions I need and he is flexible with my schedule. He gives great feedback and I am never afraid to tell him what workouts I am enjoying and which I am not and he is very willing to work with me to meet my needs. His knowledge about the human body and about fitness is extensive for being an undergrad in school and I feel confident in what he says. I would/ and have recommended Tyler to my friends who are looking to hire a personal trainer and I plan on working with Tyler for time to come!
I am so happy to have found a personal trainer who is extremely knowledgeable about the field and very patient with someone who is just getting into fitness. I have been training with Stacey for almost 2 months now and love that our workouts are challenging yet fun. Aside from the workouts, she has created a diet plan specific to me and my needs.
