Clifford is working on a creative new project to compose music to a new set of lyrics I have written. Working with a piano he'd never seen before, on a project he'd never seen before, he quickly got into the creative and fun spirit of it, and in a short time, in our first session, he had most of the music nailed. I am looking forward to the upcoming tweaks to make a good project even better. Clifford is very talented, he has great knowledge of music, and a creative spirit. He is comfortable working in your world, but in doing so, he brings his considerable professionalism to bear. That makes you want to be more serious as a student, because you realize that a master is there teaching you. will be taking piano lessons from Clifford when the current project is completed. Thank you, Clifford!

Mr. Lamb is great teacher. He is currently teaching my child and my child is picking up piano fingering and technique fast. I think Mr. Lamb is very talented and knows how to instruct in music theory and piano technique. He is very friendly and easy person to talk to, flexible and understanding of the needs of my child, and accommodates us most graciously when we have to reschedule. I highly recommend Mr. Lamb for Piano lessons.

My experience with Mr. Lamb has been fantastic. He is very patient and works extremely well with my child. My son went from not really caring about piano lessons to now really enjoying his lessons. I feel that Mr. Lamb is very thorough, yet makes the lessons fun.

Kelly is an amazing teacher. 100% on time and sometimes even goes over time just to make sure that I had fun and know what to practice on my own. He's patient, engaging and really friendly. I am 31 yr old and I do not feel embarrassed at all hitting all the wrong keys in front of Kelly. Best piano teacher there is out there! I would recommend him to my family and friends.

Kelly has shared his piano playing talent at the San Francisco Senior Center's monthly birthday party for the past several months. He has won the hearts of our Seniors with his knowledge of so many tunes from past to present. Kelly has a winning combination of patience, wit and charm and he would be a great addition to any event!

I took jazz piano lessons from Jessica for a couple of months and she did a great job matching my personal learning goals. I got to learn cool voicings for chords and arrangement tips in different styles. I left with a solid understanding of how to practice on my own and work towards improvisation. Plus, it certainly helps that she's a great piano player as well!

Taking the first step towards learning piano and reading sheet music can feel daunting; taking on students who may have their doubts, and students with no previous experience (like myself) is one of Jessica's many strengths. Not only has she helped me get started, but she has encouraged my growth and progress since day one.

Stan L.

Jessica has worked with me for many years. When not performing publicly, Jessica gives private lessons on piano and accompanies for voice. She is terrific! She can play anything by ear or from a chart or a score. Lead or accompany. Recommend her with enthusiasm.

Juan Carlos is such a great teacher. He is helping my son learn piano and teaching him how to use his voice properly. He is patient, kind, and clear when teaching my 12 year old who is not very confident yet with his singing. My son is learning how to listen and match pitch. Juan Carlos always finds a teaching approach to help my son understand what to do. I definitely recommend Juan Carlos! Melanie Hernandez

I can't say enough about my experience with Ken. He is very intuitive. His lessons are balence between exercises and therory. I have alway found myself mentally stimulated, with plenty of work for my fingers. He is very energetic and reaches out between lessons to give you more music to play with. His warm and friendly personality make the lessons fly by. He also willing to work through tought topics without cutting the lesson short (schedule permitting ). I really appreciate his effort into his students. He has also been pretty flexible with my shedule. As an adult these are not the piano lessons I hated as a child. Lol

I've had two lessons with Ken so far, after returning from a 10 year hiatus from playing piano. He has been able to simplify aspects of piano playing that were previously unlearnable for me in just two hours! Ken is a passionate teacher, who makes learning fun. I'd happily recommend him to anyone wanting to learn piano and have fun doing it.

I recently hired Toby for lessons in composition and to help me gain more agility and greater finger dexterity. I played piano for 5 years as a child, but stopped in high school because I became too busy. I also wanted to start writing my own music. I have lyrics, but I don't know how to put them to music. Toby has been working with my daughter who started piano lessons 3 years ago. My daughter had some interest in playing, but had a hard time getting motivated to practice. Toby got her back on track and excited about practicing. She is unique in allowing her intermediate students to play with her band which plays originals, including her own which are a mix of classical and rock. Toby has had an amazing influence on my daughter who went from not knowing how to play to playing intermediate pieces with a wonderful tone, dynamics, and dexterity. She is currently working on a some Chopin (Toby is most skilled in the Romantic era pieces such as Chopin and Rachmaninoff) and the Mozart Turkish March sonata. My daughter has also learned how to write songs and compose music to match them. Toby studied at Berklee which is well-known as the premier school for songwriting and composition, and it shows in her teaching. I am so excited to have an opportunity to work with her. She is a fantastic teacher and her original music is gorgeous and inspirational.

I have been taking classical piano lessons with Mrs. Matoush for 2 years now and am delighted with my progress. Toby is an excellent teacher with an unmatched passion for classical music. I have progressed at a rapid rate in spite of not having a great deal of time to practice daily. Toby really knows how to motivate and inspire her students to play and integrates music theory with a nice blend of classical music songs so that her students learn the fundamentals, but also enjoy playing classical songs very quickly. She is fantastic at picking the most appropriate music books. Hearing her play her beautiful original compositions is such an inspiration that I have decided to also learn songwriting from her. Toby and her band are working on making a YouTube video of one of her compositions and I can't wait to hear and see it. My daughter is now studying with her as well as she has grown to love hearing classical music too and wants to study rock piano with Toby too.

Pei Z.

Verified review

I started piano lessons with Toby in January 2017. Toby is one of the best teachers I have ever known. She is incredibly patient, well-organized, and customizes lessons to fit each student's unique needs. I am a Chopin lover and Toby specializes in Romantic period composers like Chopin. She truly cares about the progress of her students. Toby lets her students choose their pieces and she often plays select classical pieces to inspire and push me. I am starting a beginning intermediate Chopin piece already as she has really inspired me to practice and improve. She has also played some of her original compositions which are beautiful. She is a virtuoso pianist. I feel so lucky to have her as a teacher. Don't hesitate to contact her for lessons.

Prior to my time with Ms. Laura, I had taken four years of piano lessons and had extremely disliked playing the piano. Ms. Laura changed that, and now I love playing the piano. She has helped me develop my piano skills so that I can play any piece of music I want. Not only does Laura make good suggestions of music to practice, she is fine with me working on pieces I have an interest in learning to play. For the past 5 years, I have always looked forward to going to my piano lessons because Ms. Laura is energetic, supportive and very easy to talk to. And she has cats! She is a piano teacher I definitely recommend.

I am 23 years old and, before starting lessons with Marie, I had no musical experience whatsoever. After months of weekly meetings of practicing piano, I have developed a better understanding of the basic foundations of western music. Marie has done a great job of breaking lessons down into simplistic explanations when necessary, and she has also picked the right moments to delve more into theory and ask more of me. Marie is very organized in the way that she helps set realistic goals and provides tips on how to practice at home, and she has also been very flexible with my schedule and open to the things I'd like to learn. Overall a really great experience!

Eteri was my teacher for 10 wonderful, amazing years! She introduced me to piano from the basics at the age of 8, and I fell in love with playing piano ever since then. Not only does she build a strong musical foundation for her students, but also she will truly inspire you to reach your full potential in terms of technical abilities and performance. She's great at encouraging students from the youngest age with games, stickers, prizes - which is so important when children have a short attention span. As I got older, I truly came to love music and piano thanks to Eteri's own love for music and the great satisfaction I got from mastering pieces that were more and more challenging. I am so thankful to Eteri for encouraging me every step of the way with her guiding words and dedicated attitude. She truly gave me a gift that will last a lifetime!

I played piano for a few years before I started playing with Eteri. Eteri is the best piano teacher I've ever had and really helped me get serious about my piano playing and actually start practicing. She makes the lessons enjoyable for every student, so the students learn to appreciate music. The recitals twice a year are really fun. You get to hear what kids from different age groups are playing and hang out with them. Everyone is pretty close and its a wonderful enviroment. If you need a piano teacher, I extremely suggest Eteri.

The Piano recitals are my favorite time of year since We get a chance to see our daughter perform and the wonderful surprises through the entire show are not to be miss. Eteri has become more then a teacher to us. We feel she is more like family.

Lin Chiao has been my piano teacher for the past 6 months. She comes over to my place once a week for a 45 minutes session. I am a beginner adult piano student, and having a teacher gives me a direction and helps me understand how a piano piece should sound. Lin has been very patient with all the mistakes I make. She has been careful to adjust the difficulty level to my skill, and provide challenging work if I want to. She is also very friendly and knows a lot of piano playing tricks. Christine is an amazing teacher and an absolutely wonderful person to work with. She has a deep understanding of so many aspects of singing and performance that I find every lesson I've learned something new and grown in my understanding of voice, musicality, and performance. I cannot express enough how lucky I feel to have found Christine. Not only does she have an amazing ability to diagnose and work through problem areas, she does it with such patience and kindness that I always feel encouraged and empowered when I leave. In one year with Christine I went from knowing nothing about classical singing or technique (not to mention I was petrified of singing in front of people) to well versed singing in 3 languages and performing for large audiences with confidence. I credit her with this transformation in me and I am so so grateful.

Christine is an amazing teacher. She has patience, wit and technical ability. She tutored my teenage son who had no formal training in voice or musicianship and after six months of training with Christine, he gained entry to the Classical Voice department at SOTA. He enjoys his lessons with her and his self confidence has skyrocketed. Christine designed a course in musicianship and music composition for him, provides him with supplemental entertaining materials and books. I am very impressed by the amount of wisdom, care and information she gives him. She goes above and beyond what I could have ever expected.

Amy is a terrific teacher. An outstanding, Curtis-trained musician herself, Amy brings the exacting precision of high level artistry to her pedagogy, but at the same time makes it fun. She is a perfectionist with regard to technique and focuses in with laser precision on flaws in bowing, finger position, wrist flexibility, posture and, of course, the myriad elements of musical interpretation. You really feel like you've gotten a thorough work out by the time it's over, yet she's always cherubic! She also makes it seem like a mutual, adventurous discovery, even though it's all got to be cello 101 for her--which I appreciate since I'm an older student. She happily shares her vast knowledge, spanning all periods of music from the medieval to the post-modern, and has thoughtful insights on musicology, currents in musical development, even theories of tuning. A talented pianist, Amy can accompany on the piano as well, which is a bonus. But when she accompanies you on the cello, she makes even a beginner sound like a pro. She also speaks excellent Italian! Perhaps the greatest compliment I can add after all this is that I bring my daughter for cello lessons with Amy as well. I recommend her to cellists at any level from beginner to pros just needing an intelligent set of ears.

Rebecca is a passionate and amazing person. She is very knowledgeable about music and works to help her students develop their skills while finding ways to help them enjoy music. She works with your pace and allows you to play the way you like to play. I have learned under Rebecca for almost 2 years and it has been great. She was able to help me learn pieces in which it would take me a while to learn. I learned a lot of the fundamentals and also technique including scales, arpeggios, and how to transition between octaves. I was able to play a wide variety of music from classical to movie soundtracks, modern, and even music from games! Cherie is a great instructor. Before I started lessons with her I was trying to teach myself and found that I’d hit a wall, just wasn’t getting where I wanted to be, she helped me out of that rut. She opened up my options by laying down the basics, then expanded my palette based on where I wanted to go with songs and guitar. She likes to balance what she calls the weigh-lifting of guitar and the fun stuff - exercises and songs. I never felt bored or very frustrated. She pays attention. I really felt she was teaching me what I needed to learn. She also teaches singing lessons and we worked a bit on my vocals during our guitar lessons. Was a nice add-on. She’s a pro and very easy to work with.

Seth is exactly what I was looking for. My boys love music and have learned a tremendous amount from Seth, ranging from taking a guitar solo at a live gig to taking the microphone and singing with gusto. My 8 year old takes private drum lessons for less than a year, and we are impressed by how many beats he now knows. It is clear that Seth loves what he does. He is skilled at relating to children and getting them excited to play music. He is fun and light and that carries over I'm his teaching style. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend him.

I have been an adult student of Gloria Leiter at F.A.M.E. for the past 14 years. I have also observed many of her classes with children of all ages so my exposure to the quality of her work is extensive. I am a former educator who has helped train student teachers. Gloria Leiter is the most gifted teacher I have ever seen and it has been a privilege to be in her classes. Her training and credentials in music education are impressive. She understands the educational process and goes beyond the basics. The learning environment in her classroom is warm and positive. She is able to teach a group and yet be personally involved with each student. She is thorough in her presentation of material, making sure that each concept is fully understood by all students. Her ability to pair learning with joy, fun, and excitement provides an atmosphere that children and adults embrace. They are successful starting with the very first lesson and they move forward at a good pace. In order to handle the volume of business, Gloria hires very qualified piano teachers as staff members. She trains them to meet her high standards so there is consistency in the program. Each teacher working for Gloria is passionate about doing the best possible job for the students. In addition to being an outstanding teacher and hiring excellent staff, Gloria uses the best materials available. Her mastery of the Yamaha method is unparalleled and, combined with her talent, makes for an exceptional program. Yamaha has developed a number of courses that meet the needs of different age groups and is conscientious about ongoing review of the curriculum. Yamaha has a great understanding of the potential of children. People are often amazed at how well very young children can play the piano, and how quickly they learn, when they are trained using the Yamaha courses. Those who have not experienced group learning on the piano are in for a treat. The synergy that takes place when students are learning together is compelling and makes group lessons far superior to private lessons. This program is not the program many parents experienced when they were growing up. This is dynamic, enjoyable, and comprehensive. Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons in order to see first-hand what is being taught and also to better help their children through the week. Cost effectiveness is always a consideration when one is making a decision about spending. I can guarantee you that investing in music education at F.A.M.E. is well worth the very reasonable cost. Group lessons are not as expensive as private and the overall quality is such that parents more than get their money's worth when they enroll their children at F.A.M.E. F.A.M.E. has been in Contra Costa County for the past 16 years and has served the community well. The school is a great asset to families who want to secure the best music education available for their children. F.A.M.E. is that place! I know--- I am still a student who is learning every day. And it is still loads of fun under the exceptional direction of Gloria Leiter! Shirley

Both of my children go to Fame Yamaha Music Center. It is really a school of music and I can't say enough how happy we are. My 5 year old just started and he is so excited to go to class. My 8 years old son started when he was 5 and he is still enjoying learning to play piano at the school. Ms. Gloria has a gift to teach children and a natural gift to teach piano and music . She has so much experience and she is also very kind and caring to the child and parent. The Yamaha course is wonderful because it has beautiful and fun music for the children and develops as they grow in age and in their skills of learning and playing. They learn, not only playing the piano but also rhythm, sing notes, and skills on how to sing. Ms. Gloria is an amazing teacher and we are so lucky to have found a music school that is professional and child friendly, supporting the children to blossom and to develop a love for music. The Center also has guitar classes and art ( painting too) Claudia F.

My daughter has been in Ms.Jifan Li piano class for 4 months. It is a group class. Ms. Jifan Li is very sweet. She is absolutely patient with little kids. Every time she teaches a new lesson, she comes to every single student and makes sure they learned the piece.

Our three children (ages 5, 6, 8) were Piano students of Ms. Roxy. We were saddened when Ms. Roxy had to move away. Roxy is an EXCELLENT teacher. She is patient with the kids. She is very professional in setting and holding reasonable expectations for the kids. Her teaching approach is holistic, providing a deep sense of appreciation for music. The kids love her and you will too!

I began receiving lessons from Miss Kathleen when I was in the 4th grade. She has been my private tutor for the past 8 years, and we only recently stopped having lessons due to her move. She has played a very big role in becoming the musician I am today. With her help and instruction, I participate in my school's highest orchestra, in the Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestra, and in events such as District Orchestra. She has always inspired and encouraged me to pursue my music related aspirations and, because of that, I plan on studying music in college and pursue it as a career. I can't imagine what I would have done with out her. Over the years of lessons, she has become more than just a teacher. She is my close friend who I continue to go to for advice.

Jessica was one of my favorite piano teachers. She taught me in high school. She was very good at explaining what I needed to work on. She taught me that it's not just about the notes on a sheet, but also about the passion you have while playing. She helped educate me on the background and history of music. She helped me grow and become more confident in my piano playing. She helped me fall more and more in love with music. She is amazing and anyone who is wanting to learn piano should go to her for lessons.(:

Jessica gave our 8 yr old daughter piano lesson a few years ago. She took lessons from her once per week. My daughter excelled very quickly under Jessica and learned musical theory as well. We were very impressed with Jessica's teaching skills and so happy she gave our daughter an excellent start to learning piano.

We took a trial lesson for our children who are older beginners at piano. We were very pleased with the trial and have set lessons to begin soon. Sharon has been very responsive thus far, and she seems exceptionally effective at incorporating critical piano techniques, checking to ensure what the kids were familiar with already from school exposure at the trial. She is bright and engaging, straightforward, and very warm. She sent book lists and PDFs of the first lesson. The kids are looking forward to their lessons and have already practiced faithfully today.

Sharon is very patient and at the same time rigorous about getting every single detail right. She has been very helpful in revising different concepts when I first learnt playing piano many years ago, as well as teaching various piano techniques that I didn't realize was important for the long term, especially guiding me how to fix my hand posture. Thanks Sharon!

Martan has been doing a wonderful job teaching my teenage son jazz piano for the past few years. Martan has a proven approach starting at the basics and advancing to very sophisticated techniques at a pace the student can handle. The techniques my son is learning are also directly applicable to playing jazz on other instruments such as the saxophone that my son also plays in his school band.

About

Piano lessons for children, adults and anyone interested on music theory, music history and specifically playing the greatest instrument in the world! I can also teach you in Spanish if you like :) Piano for children: Learning how to play an instrument can be so much fun for your children and also it will help them to develop their artistic and musical skills. Besides playing piano is an easy way to get the basic notions of music and it is a great instrument to start due to its facility to performance since the very first day. Piano for adults: Or.. you can improve your piano skills if you have already played or.. if you have always wanted to play piano and never did it before I will tell you, it is NEVER TOO LATE FOR LEARNING MUSIC! :) Methodology: What will I learn? I basically teach classic music (but I'm open to others genres if you are interested in) and I can get for you thousands and thousands of classical music sheets and pieces since Chopin to The Beatles. Ask me for any song you would like to learn and I will pick it up for you. Although I'm not really fan of following a book day by day I usually recommend, as a basic guide for everyone, the Bastien Method for children and the Piano Adventures for adults. If you have other books we can use them as well. I also have my own resources online and I will provide you all the material you need. Basically you make your own lesson as you please but we will have the first 15 minutes to talk about Music History, Music Theory or every other related subject. Skills needed: Although it is not necessary for you to read music to start playing the piano I highly recommend to everyone to start learning as soon as possible. Don't be afraid of it! It is so easy and once you learn how to read music sheets you will be able to play all the songs ever written! Prices: 1 lesson 1 hrs. > $55 3 lessons x 3 hrs. > $150 (Save $15) 5 lessons x 5 hrs. > $235 (Save $40) 10 lessons x 10 hrs. > $440 (Save $110) The first class is FREE for you. On this first approach to each other we will talk about your or your children needs and see if everything works for both parts. There is no commitment of any type. PLEASE NOTICED: Advance payment of a minimum of 3 lessons is required before you start your lessons.

We couldn't be happier and neither could the girls. They look forward to their lessons. They are learning far more and thinking more creatively than they would have without Nate to guide them. My mother, who has been visiting the last few weeks, is amazed at the progress they have made since she last heard them play. Mom remembers practicing her chords and scales with loathing, but the way Nate plays along with the girls makes it much more fun for them. I especially appreciate the way Nate approaches each girl as an individual (they are twins.) They respond differently and learn differently, and it is great that he teaches them differently. One is a perfectionist to the point that it can hold her back -- so the improv is a great way to help her. The other thinks faster is better, so he made the right decision in giving her pieces with lots of finger movements. It is apparent that Nate puts real thought into the assignments. We want them to be happy playing the piano for the rest of their lives. It doesn't matter how quickly they learn, or if they ever play for others. The only real goal is that it brings them joy. Some weeks they are under prepared for their lessons because they don't have enforced practices. But they sit down at the piano whenever they find a free moment and play because they want to, which is exactly what their mom and I had hoped for.

My daughter has been taking piano and violin lessons from Paul. The piano lessons since age 9 for almost 2 years now, and the violin lessons for a few months now to augment the strings music instruction at her school. He was referred by a family in our neighborhood, and he was open to trial lessons before completely signing on. He goes into music appreciation and history along with his teaching. We have also enjoyed a few recitals of his students along the way - there are three of these each year in student homes, and the anticipation of an upcoming recital is good motivation for the student to practice. For one of these recitals, Paul wrote the sheet music for a popular song that my daughter chose, since there wasn't one readily available. So he goes out of his way to customize the teaching. My daughter has progressed well, and enjoys the experience. I definitely recommend Paul.

Paul taught piano lessons in our home to our three children for ten years. It was a delight to have the lessons going on each week. Paul's style of teaching is very specific to each child. He is a wonderful mentor and teacher. He taught them about the music and the composers and history too. The recitals in the different students homes were very special too. We highly recommend Paul Price.

Paul has been a fantastic piano teacher. Additionally, he has a deep and passionate knowledge of music theory and history. His lessons are rich not only in technique, but also the story behind any particular song he's teaching. I highly recommended him.

Hi. I have been playing piano since the age of 7, and reached a level of playing a Mozart concerto. I have picked it up again, and have been able to, (not perfectly though), play the Schubert Impromptus. I would like to advance in classical, and also be trained in some jazz if possible. But classical is most important to me. I would like a teacher who expects a lot, and will help me advance to the next levels.
