Elite responded quickly and Curtis was sent out the next day to my home, well dressed and educated. Always was nervous about having a stranger in my home but Curtis was very trustworthy. I told the manager that Curtis was one of the most professional people I have met. English writing and Spanish tutoring has never been this easy

Nando is the best spanish teacher ever. He can teach you in so many different ways ! It is really fun. He instantly adapts to your way of learning. I have had several tutors and i am not saying the others were bad, but Nando is definitely my FAVOURITE ! You could definitely pay him more than he is asking for since the quality you get from his lessons is superior to any other private courses in language schools.

Nicolas worked with my son on his high school math. My son was having a terrible time in his classes, and Nicolas acted as a guide and tutor though the years. He was very patient and understanding, and always arrived on time for the tutoring sessions. In the end, my son wound up with A's and B's in the classes, and was accepted to his first-choice college. Thanks, Nicolas!

My stepdaughter has been working with Sylvia for a few months now and we can really see a difference in her math and English (reading, writing, spelling, etc). My stepdaughter actually looks forward to her time with Sylvia, which is so important to us. Sylvia is very patient, personable and knowledgeable. My stepdaughter got very excited yesterday, after she found out that Sylvia is also fluent in Spanish because she would like to start working on that as well. I feel that we really lucked out with finding Sylvia. Soon, my other stepdaughter will be working with Sylvia to prep her for the SSAT!

Hola!!! I absolutely love Karen. She tutored me for 8 months in Spanish and boy did I relearn a ton. I had taken Spanish for over 10 years but you know what they say when you dont use it you lose it. She was always prepared for our lesson and worked at my pace to ensure I was grasping the language..Our lessons were 60 minutes bi-weekly sessions. Unfortunately I had to move due to a new job but if not I would still be working with Karen!

I offer techniques and an understanding of subjects that other tutors do not. I wish to attain graduate degrees in Education and pursue a career in the field, so I have spent a great deal of time devoted to understanding learning styles and crafting specialized curriculum. I do not espouse problem memorization but rather conceptual understanding. I love seeing students learn and then succeed. It's a wonderful feeling to see your students become excited for learning, often for the first times in their lives.

My name is Cameron Anetsky. What sets me aside from other tutors is that my priority is the student, their family, and their needs. I tailor my tutoring to each and every student. My teaching has a basis in the Saxon Method of teaching, but it is more than that. I teach not only the subject matter, but the tips, note taking, organization, and study skills that make each student uniquely successful. I am well versed in teaching most subjects, with special emphasis on Reading and Writing, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Math, and Science. I effectively teach skills that can be used later in their academic and professional careers: reading for retention, note taking, analytical skills, scientific analysis, nursing and patient care, and writing. I like my students and their families. I enjoy watching the "lightbulb going on in their head" when they begin to understand their material.

I approach my students with the assumption that they will do well. Often, American students do not understand the nuances of grammar. I can explain how the grammar in Spanish my reflect the same thing in English. Then, they understand and can master the material. This is true with romance languages which use the subjunctive much more than in English. It is also true of reflexive verbs and their use. I love interacting with my students, and seeing their confidence grow with their mastery of the vocabulary, and use of the language. I enjoy getting to know my families, and take an interest in their activities.

I am a tutor and mentor with more than 10 years of experience. During the year, I work in an elementary school and during the summer I teach at a visual and performance art camp that focuses on empowerment. I combine my creativity, compassionate communication skills and knowledge of the classroom to help kids gain confidence and life-long learning strategies. I tutor all K-8 subjects--my specialties are math and writing. I have experience working with learning differences, including ADD, ADHD and Asbergers. Excellent local references available by request. I love the "light bulb moment" when a student gets something they used to think was "too hard" or "impossible". I enjoy the process of working one on one to find new ways to approach a challenge and having fun doing it!

I tutor enunciation and pronunciation for ESL for Spanish speakers. My wife is Mexican, and we speak Spanish in the house for the more than 20 years of our marriage, and I have lived in Mexico for 5 years and speaking only Spanish.

I have a service company in Costa Rica and San Francisco, but for more than 6 years, I was a teacher. My students said "Hey, you have a great talent to explain about different topics." That is the reason I want to keep in touch with great people, people to have the goals to be better.

I like meeting new people, and helping them building relationships and learning from them.

Lingua Franca Academy is a company that offers Spanish and English classes to adults and businesses using a conversational method of teaching. Rather than listen to a lecture, students speak during 50% or more of the class time and are able to develop linguistic agility by using the language immediately with the help of their instructor. We seek to provide interesting, interactive classes for our students without the need to assign homework because we understand that students have busy lives and we are confident in our ability to teach concepts that will be memorable through our in-class exercises. If you have tried traditional methods of learning and have not achieved the linguistic agility you had hoped for, we invite you to try our method and judge the results for yourself.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
