  • PIANO STUDIO

    (2 reviews)

I attended the Gnessin Music School for the gifted in Moscow Russia and later graduated from the Gnessin Music College with bachelor's in piano performance and later with master's in pedagogy. My teachers were great musicians and instructors who taught me world-recognized performing and teaching methods and techniques which I have used in my work with students for several dozen of years, both in Russia and in the US. I am a piano instructor, member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), offering individual piano lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes to students of all ages, including seniors, in playing classical, contemporary, jazz, pop music/hymns, music theory and preparation for CM tests. The lessons may be held at your convenience, either in your home or in a nice studio located on commercial grounds in Castro Valley, CA, a short ride from Pleasanton, Dublin and San Ramon. I am a calm and patient person, and my students and their parents feel comfortable during my lessons.

I am a classically trained piano instructor. I began teaching private piano lessons during college to help pass on the joy of classical music to families in my community. My breadth of coursework includes music theory, music literature, performance technique, and holistic musicianship. Students' ages range from as young as 3 to as old as 17, but adults are welcome. I've worked with students who are just starting their musical education as well as experienced pianists who are pursuing a more advanced skill of the instrument. All that is required of those seeking to learn the piano is an open mind, a willing heart, and joyful hands.

  • Piano Lessons with Tina Chaix

I have been teaching piano for 15 years, both privately and with West Contra Costa County Adult School. I used to live in the Glenview district of Oakland but moved to Castro Valley in 2011. However, since almost all my private students live in the Glenview, Montclair and Piedmont areas, I travel to my students' homes. I teach children from ages three and up. I teach note reading, mostly classical and later, improvisation skills. My requirement is that for parents of very young children, from age three to eight, they must practice or sit with their children while they practice. Practice times are at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week, any less than that doesn't work. Lessons are 30 minutes, once a week. I absolutely love teaching piano to young children, adults and older adults! To watch and hear them grow in their musicianship is so, so rewarding. For my older adult students, most of them never had piano lessons before or they were given music lessons when they were very young and hated it. So now they've come to a point in their lives where they want this elusive "magical" skill in playing the piano. They come thinking, perhaps, they're too old to learn. In due time, however, they discover that they were never too old to learn how to play the piano. To see the the joy on their faces once they've mastered a piece, such as, Beethoven's unsimplified and unabridged "Fur Elise", is pure joy. To a young child, learning something new can be both exciting and intimidating. There will be times when the child is very eager to learn and practice, and, therefore, progress quite nicely. But there might be more times of not wanting to practice at all. This is when the parents' task have to come to the fore. They have to encourage and support even during the most difficult periods when a child just does not want to have anything to do with the piano. It is temporary. Eventually, with the help of the parents, the child goes back to practicing. The reward is seeing the child play with confidence not only with his ability to play, but with himself. To be able to play a musical instrument is a lifelong skill that cannot be taken away. It is a gift that parents can give to their child, and they in turn give it to others, because playing music gives joy to not just to other people but to him or herself, as well. I have recitals twice a year for the children in my home or the home of one of the students. We rotate the recital venue. Please contact me to arrange for scheduling for piano lessons.
