I hired Mike Cooper for photography and video and DJ for my wedding. When we got the video, it had the best mix of congratulations from our guests! It was Mike and another photographer. So friendly and flexible. I am glad they were a part of my big day!!! The photos were amazing.

We are so happy with Andrew Goldberg who DJ'd our brunch wedding. He is really amazing and his rates are very good for the type of service he provides. He played music during our ceremony, brunch, and after party dancing. We met to discuss what we wanted, and then corresponded over email. His responses were always within 24 hours. He listened to what we were hoping for with the variety of music to make multiple generations happy. He also managed to find and play more obscure requests. He came with all his own equipment and microphones for the important moments. He kept people on the dance floor at 2 in the afternoon! Many of our guests commented about how good a job he was doing throughout the wedding. Planning a wedding can be stressful since finding great, reliable people can be really difficult. Working with Andrew Goldberg from Golden Berg Entertainment was a decision we were so glad we made!

Jay officiated the wedding of my son and daughter in law. He was extremely courteous and professional in every way. My daughter in law even asked if it would be possible to have Jay come back in a couple of years to officiate the renewal of their vows. I would highly recommend Jay and we think him very much for his services. The Hennen Family

I am a little late on this review but it is much deserved. I couldn't have been happier with my photos that Julie took at my wedding, she got every moment plus more that I wanted and did the bride and groom photos fast and effectively. Julie took the time to calm me down when I experienced the pre-wedding jitters too which she did not have to do, but she really cared about making sure my day was special. The photos are 100% professional and beautiful. Thank you so much for making my day less stressful and going above and beyond for me.

Rachel was a wonderful, flexible officiant. She flawlessly turned our non-religious spiritual beliefs into a touching, short and sweet ceremony. Rachel also easily incorporated our water purification ritual with an Indian blessing, the perfect touch! She was punctual and patient when we ran a bit behind schedule. I highly recommend using Rachel for your wedding!

Sara seriously did an outstanding job at capturing all kinds of wonderful moments at our wedding, including some wonderful shots of the kids playing outside, and even our wacky costume dance party in poor lighting - that was probably really hard to capture. We threw her some curve balls, such as a silent wedding ceremony - she managed to tiptoe around in an aspen grove without making a sound! She had some great creative ideas, such as posing on the porch in twilight with her flash so that people could see the mountains behind us and the framing of the railing. After being worn out from wedding planning, we were not feeling very creative in our ideas for couples posing and she had some great ideas to help. We really, really love the photos, and people keep telling us how wonderful they were. Even some of the photos of the guests are total framers. Sara also has a fantastic sense of humor, which is welcome at any wedding ;) We will recommend her to anyone who asks, and those who don't.

It was a pleasure to work with Julia & Ken. We couldn't have wished for any better photographers and professionals. Their work was just incredible. They were very communicative since before the wedding day until after the we got the pictures delivered. At the wedding day, they were amazing, they helped us to get the best images to remember this important day in our lives. They placed us just in the right spot to get the best light and to avoid other people in the shot. They always had a eye out for where we were placing our hands, how our clothes were and etc. They were very open for all our suggestions and places to photograph. The pictures were breathtaking with exceptional work and post processing. Their photo style using natural lighting is beautiful. Julia & Ken were very friendly, welcoming and lots of good energy. We totally recommend them, you will not regret it.

Without his great work at my wedding I wouldn't have any visuals of the day to look back on. He did a wonderful job on the dvd and highlight real and was even able to get me the raw footage to show to family that missed the event the NEXT DAY! Thank you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.
