Haul Off Flooring, that turned into more. When we started this project we only needed the flooring that was flooded hauled off, then we found drywall, doors, and more that needed hauled off too. David was great to take it all.

Dave and Junior did a good job removing our old appliances. They did the installation in a reasonable amount of time. They were flexible and able to solve the instal and connection problems. My only suggestion is that they be more careful of woodwork. Three of the screws into the wood cabinets around the oven, split the wood because they didn't pre-drill the holes with a small drill bit. Other than that, they were very helpful and very pleasant to work with.

New flooring was installed beautifully and interwoven with existing floor and entire area was refinished. The color worked well, however the finish didn't match the finish on an adjacent pre-existing floor. They cam back and redid the finish to a much better outcome. We appreciated that they were more than willing to make it the way we wanted.

I just bought a town home and had the wall separating the dinning room and living room removed. I am also replacing the kitchen. I ended up going with Grace flooring and I am glad I did. Doug and his crew did a great job with blending the carpet repair with the existing carpet. He also did a great job with my kitchen floor. We ran into some unforeseen issues during the job and Doug was able to troubleshoot the issues, make a recommendation, fix it and keep going.

Daniel and his team helped my wife and I transform a house built in 1906 into a modern masterpiece. They did an UNBELIEVABLE job at a very reasonable price. At first, I was a little hesitant to use them as one reviewer perviously gave them a wretched review, but I couldnt be happier with the end-results. They completely remodeled the basement, added 2 bathrooms, re-did another bathroom, dry walled multiple rooms, built an amazing egress window well, installed a water heater, sewer ejector pump, kitchenette, and laid tile/ flooring throughout the house. Separately, on a personal level Daniel and his crew are some of the nicest individuals you'll ever meet. IF YOU ARE EVER ON THE FENCE ABOUT USING DANIEL AND HIS CREW DONT BE....FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME AND ID BE HAPPY TO SHOW OFF HIS WORK. This certainly wont be the last time we use him. Stone Tree Home Improvement and Radek specifically exceeded all of my expectations. Radek is professional, reliable, trustworthy, and talented. I initially considered him with one project in mind - subway tile for a kitchen backsplash. After listening thoughtfully to my ideas and my "vision" for my kitchen remodel Radek made inspired and creative suggestions. My budget was tight and Radek was respectful of my financial constraints. He took my simple ideas for a remodel and turned it into the attractive, inviting, functional, and affordable kitchen of my dreams! His talents include flooring, tiling, carpentry, and creativity. This was my first remodel in my first home and Radek made the experience refreshing rather than stressful. I am grateful to Stone Tree Home Improvement for their expertise, skills, professionalism, and craftsmanship. I highly recommend Radek for your Home Improvement needs -- you won't be disappointed!

We had a sizable project for Nabile, interior and exterior of our 4,000 Square foot house. We spent a lot of time together as I work from my home office. He was gracious and pleasant to work with. He was very aware of the intrusion that two weeks of working inside our home could cause, and focused on being flexible to adjust his work to our holidays, meetings etc.. He also replaced the majority of our lighting fixtures and fans. Also helped with other tasks that were created by the work. I have recommended him to others and will continue to do so. Also looking at using him next year for flooring in some of our rental units. Perfect combination, delightful to work with, solid work and reasonable prices.

Dez and his crew are amazing. We hired him to restore the hard wood floor of our ranch home. The previous owner had kept carpet over it for years, the har wood underneath was out of shape. He did magic. The hard wood floor looks like new. He went above and beyond to give us a lot advice on flooring. He is very knowledgeable in the area. I am really amazed by the final product. We have a lot of quotes but decided to go with him and we are not regretting. They cleaned very well after their done. Even when I have some request he was responsive to followed through to it. He is going to come back install vinyl flooring in our basement. We are excited to have him come back work for us again. We highly recommend him. Thanks a lot Dez.

DNC Flooring replaced carpets in our Living Room, Dining Room and stairs and replaced hard woods in the kitchen. From the very beginning Dan was extremely responsive and thoroughly answered every one of our questions with expertise. We appreciated that he gave us his opinion on what works well and looks good. He is very easy to work with and Andreas who did much of the install absolutely did so with precision and care. He always showed up early and worked throughout the day. They cleaned up each day and left us with absolutely gorgeous floors that we LOVE. They changed the entire look of our main level floor with their craft. No complaints at all, only positive accolades.

Dan did an excellent job for us, installing wood laminate flooring in our house. He arrived on time, was always professional and friendly and his workmanship was superior! Friends who saw our new floor couldn't believe that it wasn't a real wood floor and how much difference it made in the look of the house. I do not hesitate to recommend Dan for any flooring job and would use him again in a minute if I had any more flooring projects to be done.

My recent experience with Papyrus Flooring was nothing but positive. Willie installed 200 sqft of red oak in the basement addition and the sand, stain and finish came out flawless. After that we had him re sand the treads leading downstairs. What impressed us the most was his knowledge of the process and his willingness to communicate the basics with us so we could keep other projects we had going on schedule. We would defiantly recommend him to anyone in need of hardwood services. Good luck I hope this review helps.

Could not be happier!! Mike deserves every star an A+. My flooring was a big purchase for me and I deliberated about the decision. I genuinely enjoyed working with him. I'd recommend Mike 10x over. I chose a quickstep reclaimé laminate and I looove the way it looks. Seems so much better than what you can find at Home Depot or Lowes and in the end competitive pricing. So glad I shopped around and made the best choice.

A section of our 50-year old oak floor was destroyed by water leaking from a refrigerator water valve. Jason replaced the wood in that section and created an almost perfect match to the surrounding area. If you didn’t know, you couldn’t tell there was ever any damage. Excellent work quality, professionalism and value. I would highly recommend Limitless for any hardwood flooring project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
