Omar and Derek are outstanding guys, and they are very enthusiastic about their work. They initially helped us complete a kitchen tiling project. It wasn't until after they made sure we were happy with the job and left, that we noticed there were some issues with the work because we had not communicated our expectations clearly. Omar was super responsive and really wanted to make things right. We appreciated that he has the practice of taking photos of his work so he was able to look back as a reference and understand our concerns. Because of this, we planned to have them do additional tile work in our mudroom when they came back. Overall it was a job well done. Omar takes his business and his brand seriously, and he will ensure that his customers are 100% satisfied. We are happy with the tile work & it was a great pleasure to work with them!

This was by far the worst experience with a contractor I've ever had. Please do not ever use this company. On the Thumbtack site, I explained that I would need the old subway tile on my backsplash removed and new subway tile put up. Terry's original estimate was $600 before he saw my backsplash. However, when he saw it, he explained he would need to do all new sheetrock. He did say it would be easier if I got bigger tile but also assured me it I stayed with subway, he would still be able to do a great job. Let the pictures show you what he considers a "great job." He changed his fee to $1000 due to the sheetrock but then never did put in new sheetrock (he never told me that, by the way: my husband did when he saw it later). He chipped my new quartz countertop in two places (he denies this but I wipe my countertops every day and I guarantee you those chips were not there the day before he did this work). The tile has cracks and holes in it everywhere, is bowed in places, the corners look absolutely atrocious. One of the outlets has so much grout behind it that it won't lie flat. Everyone who has seen it is appalled. My handyman called it "absolute crap work." My daughter-in-law is a designer in Los Angeles and when I sent her these pictures, she couldn't believe it. There were water spots all over my cabinets on my island from them rushing with their sponges when they were cleaning up the grout and there is still a mess all over my driveway. When I tried to reason with Terry and get my money back, he claims the problem is with the tile I chose! I told him if he wasn't comfortable with the tile, he should've told me that before he ever started the job; he had told me he could make it look good no matter what tile I went with. I asked him to come back to fill in cracks and holes hoping to have a conversation with him but he came when I wasn't home and made another mess (see baseboard picture below). He refuses to give me any money back even though this is the kind of quality work he does which he stands behind! This is the same exact tile I had in my kitchen for over 10 years (sold at Home Depot and already spaced). All I was doing was changing the grout color to tie in with my new kitchen cabinets and counters and because I had new counters put in. I am now having to completely redo this again. I can't live with how bad this looks. Please do not let this man in your house. He will lie through his teeth about his abilities obviously. I honestly don't know if he knew he chipped my countertops and just wanted to get out of my house as fast as possible or what but I can't explain this at all. I am not an unreasonable person but this I could not let pass. By the way, I could add more pictures. They did this entire job in less than 6 hours which is probably a good indicator of why it looks the way it does. I read the reviews on Thumbtack and thought I did my homework. I got hoodwinked... but there's always small claims court and I think I have a good case if the pictures below have anything to say about it.

It was not the most existing or creative project, just cutting back some tiles to accommodate a piece of furniture, but Mack did a very good job quickly and cost efficient.

It's rare that you find a company you are actually excited to review! I can't say enough good things about Sean, Byron and their team. They were so amazing to work with! We gave them several projects and they did an amazing job on each one. We had tile floors put in, a shower redone, and texturing repaired on our walls, and they did each job quickly and wonderfully. My husband and I are so happy with the results. Not only that, but Sean's expertise saved from paying out of pocket a repair that our home owners insurance ended up covering! They treated our home with respect, were tidy with everything, and just overall went above and beyond. If you want a great experience with your home reno projects - HIRE THEM!!!

Andrew was professional from the very beginning and gave more than reasonable prices for the quality work he helped me with. When he originally came into my kitchen I had a floor full of thin set and he helped me transform that into a kitchen with a beautiful granite tile floor and cabinets that were adjusted for the fact that the level of my floor was raised. Now my kitchen is ready for granite countertops. If you want a good priced contractor who will take the time to do quality work this is your guy

The job was cleaning tile surfaces in ten suites at a B&B: ten bathrooms tiled to the ceiling and floors of ten sitting rooms. The Touchstone folks have amazing tools that steam clean deeply - then they protect the surfaces against future soil with a special coating in the grout lines. Cleaning a lodging property was challenging since they had to work around booked rooms, so Todd and Cathy came back several times at our convenience as suites became available. They take personal pride in their work, and we look forward to seeing them again. Meanwhile, our inn *sparkles*!

So John did a lot of work for us. His craftsmanship is very good. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the actual install of our windows, but his workers did that. One window was damaged going in and when I asked the worker about it, he was defensive and combative. After the windows were installed however, I only worked with John. He did all of the casing around the windows which turned out beautiful. He remodeled our master bath and half bath with marble tile and also did a beautiful job. His tile work is very good. He really pays attention to detail. He cut and installed our baseboard. He installed new plumbing, bathroom cabinets, mirrors, he installed outdoor lighting, he really did a ton of work. I was very happy with all of the work he did. Any problems that may have come up, he addressed immediately. I can't say enough nice things about John.

Aaron moved my tile for me. I am deployed and had no one to pick it up from the store. He offered me a really great price. Showed up promptly and communicated very well. Was courteous and handled my tile with caution. Worked extremely hard. I highly recommend him for any of your tasks as needed. Thanks again! I appreciate the help.

Pricing was the best extremely reasonable. We enjoyed working with the CCS team and look forward to working with them on future projects. We highly recommend their work.

We received about 8 estimates from different companies. Ransom delivered the most concise and least confusing quote of all. He was very easy to work with and super flexible with our time and budget. He is a super guy and does incredible work. My dogs loved him he is very professional and every tile was placed perfect (I checked all of them :)). He made suggestions and offered insight a first time bathroom remodel easily could have missed and been disappointed. We have 2 more bathrooms, a laundry room and kitchen all which we will be exclusively using Precision Tile Works for.

We recently had Lionhead Designs do a partial remodel for our two bathrooms. We were very impressed with the design Lionhead came up with and willingness to work within our budget. We wanted to match our existing tile in the tubes and shower while still giving our bathrooms a new look. Lionhead Designs came up with a beautiful plan to do just that. The tile on both the floor and counters turned out better than we could have imagined. We were very impressed with the lay out of the tile (so much better than anything I could have imagined!) The comapany also came up with ideas to modernize our mirrors, in way that was very cost effictive. We are so pleased with the finished product and the service we received from Lionhead Designs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

For more on how to remodel a bathroom and bathroom tiling check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.
