Repairs allowed me to use computer again; and given age of it, offered good alternative with used/upgraded computers.

Creative Technologies was an all right company. My motherboard of my laptop was replaced by them. On the surface and the first impression I received, I thought they were the company I was looking for. However, my overall experience fell short of my expectations. My motherboard was repaired in a timely manner and the communication of the company was fair. It would have been nice if when I emailed them they would email me back with answers to my questions rather than emailing me to call them. Email is usually the best way for me to contact people with my schedule, but they insisted on phone calls, which led to games of phone tag. Ultimately, this prolonged the time it took to set up and resolve my computer issues.
The labor pricing was reasonable at $50 an hour, but I was reminded numerous times, about how good the pricing was and that it was a thumbtack user rate. In actuality, this was the same labor rate numerous techs quoted. Additionally, regarding prices, I had an issue with their part prices. There was a miscommunication on the correct motherboard for my laptop. Which I suppose is partly my fault because the model number of the motherboard, which I gave them from the hp website wasnt the motherboard in my laptop. Although, I do believe protocol would be to get the serial number of the laptop to make sure the customer was correct. Rather than waiting until they received the laptop and quoted me a price for the parts and labor. Later, I found out that the motherboard cost any where between $20 and $50 less through other technicians vendors.
Furthermore, the most disconcerting issue I had was with their customer service. When first discussing their services and whats included with their services, they repeatedly emphasized how theyre only responsible for what they fix and nothing more. At the time, I didnt think much about it and it seemed reasonable. But once you experience their lack of true concern with making sure your computer is up and running the way it should be rather than making sure they're not responsible for what's going on with your computer, you begin to question their integrity and if their pleasantries in the beginning are just a charade.
When I returned home with my computer I was excited, it had been a week since I had it and was looking forward to catching up. Unfortunately, the computer was not running as fast as it had been and when I called not only was I interrupted by the technician in a defensive manner asserting that it's a memory problem and nothing to do with the work he did. As I continued explaining the problems I was having, he then said it was an operating system problem and once again, nothing to do with what he had done. He then informed me if I wanted more help there would be a fee involved.
Overall, I thought I made a okay choice in a tech company and this is the first time I've had service done on a computer, so maybe this is how it's done, but not the experience I hoped it would be. In viewing it in their eyes, my motherboard was replaced and my computer is running. Its too bad they weren't concerned with the customer experience and overall satisfaction of the service. I feel that there main concern was just putting the motherboard in and making sure it turned on. Rather than taking the time to make sure that my motherboard was the only issue I was having and insuring that my computer was working at an expected level of performance. I believe this is included in their initial hour of labor charges. I dont think the deserved amount of time was given or the respect a customer of such services deserves. In the future, I will seek other technicians for my computer needs and I would not recommend this company.
