The most wonderful Christmas dinner for a family gathering of ten plus two children. Chef Laura from Sunflowers catering is an amazing culinary master. She dropped off our meal complete with heating instructions and guidelines for time and temperatures. If you are lucky enough to hire her you will not be disappointed ever!!!......we are so looking forward to her preparing a New year's eve sit down dinner for twelve this year in our home. As far as my husband and I are concerned, as well as our family, this chef is not to be missed.

Whether you are having a small get together for a few or a large gathering, be rest assured that your event will be amazing! Chef Michel is extremely professional, respectful, and friendly! He catered 2 events for our family and we were very pleased with both. The first was a party of nearly 100 people celebrating our son’s college graduation and daughter’s high school graduation. Our second event was a last minute post Thanksgiving weekend family get together for 12-15 people. Everything from the planning, to taste testing, and delivery was on point. Aside from the food being beyond mouth watering delicious, he coordinated with outside vendors to provide everything we needed to make the graduation event beautiful. He also provided on site chefs and wait staff, all of which were professional and attentive to details. They were flexible in their assigned roles and remained past the scheduled time to attend to our guests and clean up. Our home was left as clean as it was when they arrived! Chef Michel prides himself on delivering the best quality and freshest foods possible. Other than a few items that required pre-prep (like marinating / slow cooking...definitely try the roast pork and roast chicken) everything was prepared (cut, fried, cooked, assembled etc) on site. This truly makes a difference when you’re serving items like empanadas or tostones with avocado and shrimp (both highly recommended). Chef Michel is very creative. Whether you choose something from his printed menus, have other items in mind, or even have a special recipe that you want him to prepare...HE CAN DO IT! An important point to make about his catering style is that he is so proud of his creations that he wants everyone to be able to taste everything that he prepares. If you choose an appetizer and you have 100 people, you are not going to get 1 or 2 pieces per person or be charged by the piece, like most caterers. He will make sure you have more than enough for everyone. The same applies to your main course. We had leftovers for ourselves, even after our guests took food home. With all of this said, I truly feel that his prices are fair and reasonable! I could write more and would be more than happy to speak to anyone who has any questions, but I’ll end with...make sure you try his homemade ice creams (our favorites were coconut and pineapple), flan, and especially the sangria!

Chef Plum cooked an amazing dinner on-site for 15 friends in Southampton. He arrived on time, brought everything we needed and even improvised the menu based on my last minute suggestions. The food was delicious and incorporated all the local fall flavors. To top it off, Chef Plum and his team even cleaned the kitchen and packaged up the leftovers. He was very accommodative with my budget as well and offered more for less than some of the other chefs in the area. All in all, this was the perfect way to prepare a casual meal for a big group of friends.

We were hosting a 25th Wedding Anniversay for 50 guests. Gordon Was Easy To Work With And Very Flexible.(This was our second time using him and his staff) His Menu suggestions were too many for us to decide on our own (We actually had to host a conference call with the chef involved). When our special day arrived Gordon did not disappoint. The food was great. His presentation was creative, his dishes were delicious. Would Recommend the White Wolf Chef 100%. Will Def use him again. We were so happy to have chosen Chef Anne to cater our Mom's 90th Birthday Party. From my first conversation with her to follow up email she was helpful professional and provided first rate service. Chef Anne made recommendations as well as guided me thru selecting Glueten Free etc type dietary concerns. I felt like Ive known her for years as she is so easy to work with, now I have a friend in the catering business. We had many positive comments how delicious everything was and I would recommend her and will be happy to call her again.

Craig was an amazing chef with a great personal disposition. Craig was our personal chef for a Valentine's Day dinner for my wife and I. The menu Craig prepared was delicious and he was able to teach us a few things about how to prepare the dish. Craig has a high degree of professionalism but also can bring some levity to the process which was greatly appreciated. We would highly recommend Craig to anyone who wants to enjoy a great meal, relax and have fun!

I hired Debbie to cook a meal for my husband's birthday which was on a week night after a long tiring day for both of us. Debbie was very helpful around menu choices and also very flexible as I asked her to deliver the meal rather than cook in our home because we would be home on the later side. She cooked us a very delicious and healthy meal, exactly what we wanted. We had a lovely kale salad, perfectly cooked lamb chops over spinach and a side of risotto. Debbie is also a nutritionist and life coach and is also very knowledgable about how to use food as a way to respond to problematic health conditions such as auto-immune diseases. I would highly recommend her. She is also more reasonably priced than the other private chefs in the area.

I've been an avid home cook for years but in just one class with Evan, I learned so many things that will make my cooking experience more fun and the meals I make more delicious. It's amazing how learning how to actually use a knife can speed things along! I took the class alongside my 14 year old son who has taken a reality show driven interest in cooking. Evan's class was great for both of us. My son learned a lot and is excited to continue his culinary journey. I so appreciate how he tailored the class to our needs. We are looking forward to more classes with Food's an Art!

What a great job by Joe and his catering team at Angelo's Market & catering. The food was out of this world and the presentation was as if I was on a Iron Chef episode. It could not have gone any better and I definitely am going to be using Joe again. Thanks again. Robert S.

I’m thrilled with the work that Heather did on my project. She communicated with me consistently throughout the engagement and sent pictures as she progressed. I couldn’t be happier with the result of my furniture - it is much nicer than I had anticipated. I will certainly keep her in mind for future projects. Pickup and delivery at my home was a nice added touch!

His attention to detail, coupled with his patience and know how made him one of my favorite Chef Instructors. Chef Jason provided detailed information in the allotted time frame in such a way that any novice or expert cook would be able to follow. He is highly recommended and admired by his peers.

Anepexperience catered my daughters’ graduation luau and made it a truly exquisite experience. The Hawaiian themed foods and appetizers were phenomenal. The presentation was so aesthetically pleasing that our guests were in awe. Chef Oneil and staff were very professional, knowledgeable, curteous and an absolute pleasure to deal with. I look forward to working with Anepexperience on every event I host in the future. They did such an amazing job. I couldn't have hired a better company. My girls are still thankful for how well the event turned out. I couldn't have done it without the help of Anexperience. Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
