Greetings - Word of mouth advertising is powerful. The consumer's experience with a product/service is paramount to the success or demise of a business. My recent experience with American Roofing of Jacksonville was profoundly satisfying. My family had recently sold our house and part of the deal was to get a new roof for the buyers. We were pinched for time as the required inspection and closing date rapidly approached. Dan Kinkel and his team of professional/expert roofers completed the job in less than 5 days on a 3,800 square foot home with several steep pitches!. Mr Kinkel oversees all aspects of the project and is hands-on as necessary to ensure a timely and correct install. American Roofing also protected my paver driveway with sheets of thick plywood before bringing in a dumpster for debris. The guys were very careful with disposing of the old roofing materials as I never found any items left on my property, especially nails! I couldn't be more satisfied with American Roofing of JAX. The inspection passed and the new owners love their new roof. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor - When a new roof or roof repairs are needed, find US Army veteran Dan Kinkel and his team with American Roofing of Jacksonville for a great experience and peace of mind. Peter did a great job repairing and sealing on our metal roof. The County inspector came out and looked at his work and agreed he did a top notch job. I'd highly recommend Real Estate Busters for your roofing needs. Very professional work, done promptly and efficiently, cleaned up after and communicated timeline throughout.

First of all I was very impressed how promt and professional he was answering all the questions that most of us dont know. After contracting with him, he and his crew showed up on time and completed the job as described. Im on the Broad River and I wanted a metal roof that I could afford, so he provided options that fit my budget. The crew was hard working, professional as well and Wow! what a great job cleaning up. Thanks again I will recommend him to all my friends and foes!!

Josh and crew came in late last year to remodel/renovate the flooring in my home from carpet to hard wood floors on over 1700 sq ft of space. They not only met my expectations, but exceeded them with their promptness and reasonable rates! I will be using them more in 2015 as I start remodeling my kitchen and bathrooms!

We contracted with Brian Banta to repair our outside shed that had seen it’s better days with the the wood rotting all around the bottom. We were so pleased with his suggestions of using hardie board and painting it with a “key west” color scheme. It looks great! Brian is a building contractor and he does all kinds of home services in and around the home including trim carpentry, windows, garage doors, roofs, and painting. We will definitely be calling on him again when needs arise. You will be happy with his work!

It was necessary to replace our entire roof. Being new to Jacksonville we did not have any references or people to ask for recommendations. We did a LOT of reading and made MANY inquiries into roofing contractors in the Jacksonville area. We found Tier 1 Roofing through the Thumbtack service. Tier 1 was one of several comparable contractors we interviewed. The factor that stood out and closed the deal directing our decision to Tier 1 was the Project Manager, Chris McCorkle. Chris was exceptional is his knowledge and attentiveness to us as customers. There are many companies to choose from - when making a decision be sure to interview the prospective project manager. They last thing you want to deal with is an inaccessible, distant person or voice mail phone tag throughout the process. This was not the case with Chris. He was always available, respectful and went above the call of duty to make sure our project went well. The crew was quick, clean and accommodating. Chris patiently answered all our questions and quickly address any concern. Another key factor is Chris' readiness to take the bull by the horns in making sure we were completely satisfied with every step of the process. Tier 1 not only provided a stellar project manager in Chris, they offered several perks that none of the other vendors would even consider AND their pricing was competitive and reasonable. Our roof is gorgeous and we have no regrets in our decision to go with Tier 1. The owner Brent provides a very informative video on their website and a lot of good information about the roofing business. He also was kind and patient. He was accessible and willing to answer our questions as well, however, it truly due to Chris' professionalism and customer service that we chose Tier 1. We cannot say enough great things about this experience and will gladly talk to any prospective customers. We have other home improvements planned and have already decided we are checking with Chris McCorkle to see if the projects are within his scope or if he can recommend a company with his level of excellence and integrity. We are thankful for him.

These guys are amazing! After being scammed by another company they were more than willing to find what we wanted and with a price we could afford! We ended up getting a brand new metal roof (we only had singles before) which we didn't even know was an option for us. They also completed the inside work from water damage and it looks amazing! We will be calling them in the future! The guys are all hard working and worked sun up to sun down every day until it was done! we tried offering them some ac and cold water but they just kept working. if you want a dependable company that values their customers these are the guys!

I had some wood rot to the faucet on my roof. Called Reed's Renovation and Repair to get an estimate. He showed up on time and listened to my needs and then looked everything over very throughly and gave me a good price for the repair. After having other contractors look at the work I went with Reed's Renovation and Repair due to the professionalism that Mr Reed showed at our first meeting. He showed up early on the day of the job and did a great job. I will definitely call Reed's Renovation and Repair again for any of my home remodeling needs.

Richard was professional and competent from the time of the estimate to the completed job. He was on site himself, making sure that the job was done correctly. One of the many things we liked was that he & his crew work on one job at a time until completion, and then move on to the next job. We didn't have to worry about them starting the job at our house, then not seeing them for a few weeks! There must have been about 10 of them on our roof! His crew was expected to measure up to his high standards and he held each and every one of them accountable. We needed a complete re-roofing, having lots of rotten wood and water damage and Richard made sure that when all was said and done, we were completely happy with the finished product. We got the impression that the work done was of the same quality as it would have been if it been on Richard's own home. We had heard nightmares from others who had their roofs done through other companies, but we were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience with Richard's company. We recommend him and his company without hesitation! Thank you for a job well done!

I own a 2200 square foot house with attached doubled garage. R and K replaced my roof. It was a $14,500 job. There are three goals I want met when I hire a contractor. I want the work done on time. I want the price quoted to be my final cost. I want quality work and follow-up. Bret met my goals. Start to finish, I could not have had a better experience. Bret guaranteed his work. Months after completion I complained about a leak. Bret was there that day and traced the leak to a faulty chimney. The leak had nothing to do with his work. I recommend R and K and Bret to anyone requiring a new roof. His prices are reasonable and his work is the best.

My husband is deployed overseas with the US Navy. He could not help with filing a claim with my insurance company for the wind damage to my roof. Hurst and Hurst Roofing sent their most experienced Project Managers to help me with the process of dealing with an insurance company. I now have a new roof and cannot wait for my husband to get back to see it. If you need help with your roof, they will help you out.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
