Bruce made our new home which was previously occupied by owners with 4 large dogs, smell brand new - the difference is incredible. Vents, ducts, and dryer vent were all cleaned. He even advised me on how to take care of a problem with my clothes washer. He sends photos so you can see before and after. Highly recommended, and I'd hire him again.

Excellent ! Excellent ! Excellent ! You will never use another plumber once you've used Herb. He was patient , on time, friendly, and finished the job ! My initial request was for a new toilet valve to be installed , as with plumbing sometimes and houses built before 1990 we had many surprises along the way. Herb was the consumate professional . He worked so hard in the rain ... In the dark ... And never complained once ! He's my hero😀 I really don't have words to express my gratitude for Herbs hard work, dedication and pure tenacity ! On top of all that he's a 100% Nice Guy! Please do yourself a favor and call this guy ... You will not regret it.

We had rotten wood on a patio roof and leaks in our sky lights. We called Mr. Doe out to look at the places for repairs. He gave a clear and concise written estimate. When we asked about the whole condition of the roof he gave us a written estimate to fix including a description and explanation. We went ahead and had him fix everything. There was no up-sell and no pressure. The finished project was completed on the day and within the time he said. His crew worked consistently and cleaned up afterwards. We have another issue at the front of the house and will use him again. We highly recommend him and his crew.

We hires Leo to seal our roof which was leaking. I believe the quote was a little higher than we expected, but we accepted and signed the contract since he could get the work done quickly (next day). His card said something about price match guarantee, so I guess if we had taken our time to get more quotes we might have been able to get a better deal. His quote was only to seal around a leaky vent pipe. Once he got on the roof to do the job he believed the leak was actually coming the seal around the edges of the roof. He sealed the all the edges of our roof in addition to the vent pipe for the same price. So in the end I believe it was a good value since he did a lot more work for the same price. He showed me before and after picture of all his work to ensure we were satisfied. He also guaranteed his work for 6 months. He never really showed up on time. However, he did keep in contact via text messages to let us know he was running late and provided up with updated times to expect him. I have never hired a contractor before, so I don't know how normal this is or not.

I absolutely recommend Danny at The Roofsmith for your roofing needs. You won’t find a better roofer or someone with amazing customer service than this who cares about your roofing issues. I found Danny on Angie's List and Thumstack during my research for a roofing contractor. From the moment I called Danny up he was in constant communication and helped me feel more than comfortable knowing that I choose the right person. At first I didn’t know what to expect of his services due to there being a little amount of reviews on Angie’s list. It always seems that when you are on Angie’s list that you have to go with the contractor that has 100+ ratings. This is not the case with Danny at The Roofsmith. Danny made sure that from start to finish that his work was completed with excellence and amazing customer service. He was able to complete the job within a 1 day period. I couldn’t be more happier with my roof. After the roof repair was completed it began to rain. The amazing news is that there is no more leaks even after it rained. I am so happy to finally be worry free from the great job he did on my roof. Danny cleaned up after himself and made sure that I was more than happy with the completed work. If you want great customer service, quality work with excellence and someone who is competitive…look no further and choose Danny. You won’t regret it.

Jared was really great - he was punctual, did a terrific job, impeccable manners and finished a job I had been wanting to accomplish for years (my laundry room)! He did it all within one day - it included baseboard molding, grout sealing, hanging cabinets, cutting and hanging shelves, installing a low profile dryer vent, a clothing rod, and some additional odd jobs needed in other areas of the house. He also helped me decide on how to use the laundry room space and I couldn't be happier. I will definitely hire him again and again!

Hi, Chris, insulated the outer walls in my attic, installed a soffit vent, 2 100" panel track window treatments, 2 shades totaling 100", reinforced and insulated two openings in the outside of my villa, cleaned my dryer vent, moved the insulation covering the soffit vents in 7 hours. And was clean, neat and so very knowledgeable. I am truly impressed with his work and his work ethic. He is my extra set of hands. Thank you Chris for a job well done. Chris said he was going to be at my home at 8am and was there at 7:45. So unusual in this day. I have had to wait hours for people to show or worse yet not show.

Michael was very professional, friendly, and communicative. He came out same day on short notice and did a great job relocating a dryer vent at a reasonable price. He explained the process clearly and pointed out any potential issues and recommendations. I recommend him and would definitely use him again if the need arises.

Randy was really great to work with. I gave him a call and within a half hour he was at my house to look at the project at hand in order to provide a quote for free. His guys completed my removal and installation of a new attic ladder within a few hours and were on their way after cleaning up after themselves. Randy came by the next day to inspect their work. Really nice guy! We look forward to working with him again with potential future home projects.

Nobody wants to replace a roof however dealing with Steve at Blues Brothers was a true pleasure from start to finish. In fact when we needed a roof and other work on our second home in Delray Beach I use them as well!! AAA++ A true pleaser in a state full of disappointing contractors.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
