"ZBody is the best gym around for personal training! The gym is in excellent condition with all new equipment. ZBody has the perfect variety of trainers and equipment for all individuals no matter your fitness level and goals. If you're new to fitness you don't have to worry about where to start or feeling self conscious in this gym since it's a private gym for trainers and clients only. Everyone in this gym is extremely positive and supportive. You won't find this atmosphere anywhere else. I would personally recommend the trainer David Rocklage at ZBody. I have been training with him for a year and he has not only helped me transform my body, but also my attitude about exercise in general. I can honestly say that because of him I love working out when I used to dread it. He caters to your goals and will keep you on your toes with his personalized workouts. A trainer like him is very hard to find."

"I came to Duane at a low point in my journey....I knew that I was about 50 lbs heavier then I needed to be and I knew that I needed someone to push me to get back in the gym. After an initial conversation, Duane started a slow and deliberate program that allowed me to start seeing small results quickly. Duane is very patient and listens to your concerns. I have had trainers in the past that become complacent with the sessions (60 mins in/out same exercises every session) which caused me to loose interest with the whole thing. Duane has a unique approach to helping you reach your goals thru fitness and nutrition but by texting, emailing and communicating. And often times (for me) those communications are 50% of it....I feel like I am not doing it alone. Duane's sessions are tough but never beyond my capabilities and he pushes you to achieve things you did not even know you could do. His private gym is clean, state of the art and best of all, private and personal....you are not competing (or listening to) the 20 year old jock on the equipment next to you. As a 51 yr old male, my goal is to be fit enough to go to the beach, take off my shirt and feel confident and secure with the way I look....I am not there yet but Duane is getting me there. He is constant and if you are looking for a trainer that will work with you to achieve your goals....you will not be disappointed."

"I am a spinal cord injured patient with very high level injury which is challenging even for physiotherapists. I mostly wanted to stand and try some steps with calibers, improving my stamina, blood flow, core muscles, etc. Frantz is amazing! He is always professional, right on time and pays attention to everything to help you out individually! I could not even tell that I was his first spinal cord injured patient since he adapted so easily, he learned everything about my condition and he helped me optimize my training schedule, paying attention to the smallest details to correlate for example my diet, to figure out which muscles would be mostly helpful to exercise, etc. He pushes my limits to improve my stamina and targets improvement. I had many physiotherapists and personal trainers before but in fact Frantz targeted the right problems and I have seen improvements of my stamina and muscle strength, I can push easier with my wheelchair and my health status and fitness is excellent even though I just moved to Boston in September and normally it takes me many months of training to return to the baseline. I have not only reached my baseline but with Frantz I see real improvements and I feel comfortable and safe in his hands. Imagine that with my condition (incomplete tetraplegia) you need to be able to completely trust your trainer and he needs to know what he is doing to help you, otherwise a mistake could take you back and harm your health severely and sometimes irreversibly. After working with Frantz I am convinced that he is the best person I could find in a very affordable price to accomplish the best possible result so I would definitely recommend him to anyone!!! If he could handle so well my condition I believe he would be amazing for everyone! "

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are.
