I'm a private guitar and bass instructor/teacher with 40 years of experience playing, performing, composing, recording, producing, and studying music. My focus is on instrumental music instruction and proper technique, although some voice coaching is available. You or your child will learn to play the instrument. I instruct reading, scale and key studies, music theory, composition, notation, ear training, proper fingering, and posture. I will travel to you, if you are in the Buford/Cumming/Lawrenceville/Duluth/Gainesville area of N. Georgia. Pricing depends on travel time and mileage. I compose my lesson plans. The student's material requirements are a playable instrument, a sturdy music stand, a 2" loose leaf note book, and plastic sheet protectors. Chris Thomas, Guitar Instructor

    (2 reviews)

I welcome beginner to advanced students. My lesson plans are customized to students' interests- rock, country, Gospel/ contemporary Christian music, etc. If you're a beginner, I won't make you learn to read music at first. I would rather get you to the point where you can play a few songs and chords first, giving you some time to get used to playing guitar. I'll write down your songs and exercises for you on "tablature", which is easier than reading music. Then I can phase you into reading music a few weeks later. For the intermediate to advanced student, I can teach you more about chord progressions, chord construction, harmony, transposition (changing a song from one key to another), improvisation (making it up as you go along), the Nashville number system, etc. And if you're playing at church or in a band, I will be glad to help you learn specific songs.

I have extensive experience in both playing and teaching. I also have a knack for quickly developing rapport with students, which helps them become more engaged in the learning process. For students with a bit of experience, I have very effective methods for explaining the mysteries of music. I really like working with someone who's been frustrated for a long time, and seeing understanding take hold on their faces. That's the moment that inspires them to learn even more...

  • Zuiff Music Studio

    (14 reviews)

Hi! I am a classically trained (both in voice and piano) professional, a former opera singer turned self-made original indie pop artist, a recording artist, a live performer of multiple styles and a music instructor of multiple instruments specializing in voice. I have over 11 years of teaching experience in both individual and group instruction. I have helped hundreds of kids and adults of various ages improve not only their musical abilities and dreams but also other essential elements, like coordination, focus, discipline, confidence and many more. Being a full-time performer and original artist allows me to bring something special to each student to better help prepare him/her for the real world of music by guiding him/her in the development of his/her craft as well as the business of music. This can spark a strong desire for a career and/or a true calling for a lifelong practice in and love for music. Each lesson is shaped and designed around the individual to explore and extract the students' creativity and strengthen and build their musical skills to guide them into their own musical potential, as well as have the students sometimes realize a clearer life purpose through taking lessons. For young children, learning an instrument (including the voice) is fantastic for building motor skills and developing great character, a unique sense of style and awareness. I teach private one-on-one music lessons in several Metro Atlanta studio locations as well as online. The majority of my student base are elementary and high school beginners to intermediates in piano, voice and guitar; advanced, hardworking and self-motivated singers; and singer-songwriters who are developing their individual voice and artistry and a few adults. Instruments and levels offered include the following: * singing -- all styles, genres and levels are welcome. * piano -- beginner to intermediate * guitar -- beginner * songwriting -- all levels I recommend doing a trial lesson to see if we are a good fit. If one or both of us feel like it is not, I will be happy to recommend to you someone with incredible qualifications and a pleasant personality out of my very large network of musicians. It is important to me that you find the right teacher for your needs, or we will waste both of each other's time and money, so there is nothing to lose here. Music is a commitment, regardless of the gift or lack of it. The more effort one puts in, the better the results, and the less effort, the lesser amount of results. All I ask, as the teacher, is to please be honest with yourself. I'm open to helping you as much as you are open and willing to help yourself. I have a bachelor's degree in music from Georgia State University with a concentration in voice. I perform with an indie pop band. I write my own original music. I am in the middle of recording my debut album of my life's original work. Several of my students of various ages who started with me in music lessons are now artists in the process of recording their own original music on a really high level, performing and continuously honing their craft. They have bright futures ahead of them in the creative arts, and it's really exciting to see their projects and personalities blossom. I am constantly collaborating on all sorts of promising creative projects with unbelievably gifted, skilled and incredible people. Music, people, creating, and seeing students learn, growing and change are my life passions. Let's make music, and let's launch you together on your own personal musical journey! I look forward to hearing music from you. All the best, Jennifer Please make serious inquiries only. If you are here to dillydally and know you will flake out on your free trial lesson I have reserved time for, don't even bother posting your ad up here because all of us teachers have to pay each time we send you a quote, and it's expensive. Please respect that and all the other teachers and service providers on this site. Don't waste our time unless you are serious about taking music lessons for whatever reason it may be. Flakes will not be tolerated. Thank you.

Hi! My name is Ryan Strickland. I have been teaching and performing professionally for over 15 years. I am currently teaching students ages 5 to senior citizen in Roswell, Alpharetta, and Norcross. Over the years, I have taught beginners with no musical experience to advanced players who have performed in many countries throughout the world. I really work to customize your guitar lesson to you. I've had many students come to study with me after they were with another teacher, and I've been shocked at how they were taught and what they learned. I teach each individual student what is interesting to them. I play and have taught all kinds of styles: rock, blues, jazz, country, classical, etc. I see myself as the sherpa leading you up the mountain of your own musical journey. If you want to learn songs, we'll do it. If you want to learn technique, we'll do it. If you want to learn the fret board, scales, chords, arpeggios, intervals, functional harmony, tablature, standard notation, improvisation, songwriting, ear training, etc., we'll do it. I look forward to helping you on your journey. Bio: Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Ryan Strickland had a passion for music at a young age. He studied classical guitar at Georgia State University with John Sutherland and Dave Frakenpool, the head of jazz guitar studies at GSU. In addition to studying at GSU, he has studied with Memphis guitar legend Shawn Lane and Jimmy Herring of Aquarium Rescue Unit and Widespread Panic fame. Ryan has been teaching private and group guitar lessons for over ten years. His musical diversity allows him to teach a wide range of styles, such as rock, blues, jazz, country, and classical music. He has performed all across the southeastern US with his own jazz and fusion projects, and has been a sideman for a wide range of artists, from the world music of the OGYA Band, from Ghana, Africa, to the country/rock of the Grammy award winning Zac Brown Band. Ryan is currently writing and recording music for his upcoming debut CD.

I constantly strive to help students become independent thinkers and creators --- and ultimately to be their own teacher. So, in addition to ensuring that students get the grounding they need in music theory, sightreading and playing technique, I constantly encourage and coach students to take ownership of their own learning. I encourage them to ask questions, express their own opinions, and participate in planning out their own assignments and practice (when they are old enough); I ensure that they become well-equipped with universal principles and practice techniques that they can apply to any new music; and I show them that creatively applying these principles to their practice can be fun. My greatest joy is letting a student go because they do not need me anymore! I love the challenge of teaching all ages, all grades, all ability levels, and all types of personalities! It is incredibly thrilling and satisfying to discover that special something that "strikes a spark" in an individual student and spurs them to work hard to achieve musical goals that are meaningful to them. Finding the right music for them to learn, the right teaching style, the right way to relate to that student personally, and the right level of challenge, are what excite and fulfill me as a teacher.

I had been taking a few lessons here and there but felt rushed and came away feeling like I really didn't understand much more than I started with. So far I have had 2 lessons with Steven and both times I've come away feeling very motivated and I can actually play the guitar better than ever. He's a great guitarist and someone that I can be proud to have as a mentor. Very patient and totally puts you at ease right from the start. Most of all I'm really learning to play quite well! It's all making sense now. Thanks Steve!

Chris is the best guitar teacher I've ever had! He's been great about helping me acheive the goals I had of playing lead guitar at my church, and now I play every Sunday. He's also been able to help me understand the guitar and to read music which is very beneficial when playing with other people. I highly recommend!
