As an Academic and Business Writer, Career Coach and ESL Trainer, I am PASSIONATE about empowering my clients to clarify their values, discover their true paths and map out steps to integrate their intentions with concrete actions. Many of us are in the process of discovering our unique skills and how we can share these gifts with the world. I believe we all deserve to be happy in our personal and professional lives. My mission is to help you find that perfect academic/career path where you will be both happy and successful. When we meet, I will bring 100% presence, listening for key words that most effectively reflect your unique gifts, as well as your training, experience, and vision. From these conversations and stories, we will unearth your Personal Brand and synthesize it into all of your written and verbal communication. In this stimulating and fast-paced climate of sound bytes and overwhelming content, entrepreneurs, employees and college applicants must offer a unique point of view and a compelling voice to stand out from the crowd. Let's work together to unearth and crystallize your voice. Let's create compelling content and presentation skills that will open doors, get you noticed and propel you on the path to vocational integration (aka the Dream Job)! "We must differentiate or disappear. Successful personal branding is based in authenticity. Being YOU is empowering, energizing and the key to success." -- William Aruda, Founder of Reach Certified Personal Branding 20 years ago, I began developing and implementing Customized English Training for manufacturing and corporate clients in Workforce Development Programs at the City Colleges of Chicago. I truly have a knack for adapting terminology found in any field (healthcare, graphic design, business, education, the arts, manufacturing) into LinkedIn Summaries, resume descriptions and web content and elevator speeches. I love meeting new clients, learning about their personal, educational and professional backgrounds, and creating written and verbal content that will empower their goals. I write 7 days a week, at all hours of the day/night and helping others to find their authentic voice is my true path.

    Margaret Goldstein

I would like to be your tutor in English as a second language (ESL). I am a native English speaker (female). I spent two years in Japan teaching English as a second language at the YMCA of Osaka. I have degrees in Philosophy (graduating Phi Beta Kappa) and Computer Science (Master's) from the University of Michigan and an Associates Degree in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design in Chicago. I also completed a certificate from the University of Michigan in teaching English as a second language. I have had a career doing consulting in Information Technology areas (payroll, timekeeping, finance). I worked for IBM (systems engineering and marketing) for over 10 years and have had my own small information technology services firm since 1994. However, I have always enjoyed teaching. Since March 2009, I have been tutoring English at Literacy Chicago, both one-on-one and for small groups (3-9 people). The Harold Washington Library (State and Van Buren) and the Chicago Cultural Center (Randolph and Michigan) are convenient places to meet for many of my students. I have lots of ideas for teaching English, and I always strive to give my students an entertaining time while conveying new concepts. I also work hard to make sure they learn real conversational English, not just "book English". Please contact me if you would like to have fun and learn English at the same time!

  • MyGuru LLC

    (10 reviews)

MyGuru is a tutoring and test prep company established and operated by Northwestern University students, graduates and PhDs, all with extensive prior tutoring experience. Many of our tutors are former instructors at the large, well-known test prep companies or certified teachers. We help the high school through graduate student accelerate his education. We provide one-on-one and small group academic tutoring in almost all subjects, from English and history to calculus, organic chemistry and beyond. We provide ACT, GMAT, GRE, MCAT and LSAT test prep services on an hourly or package basis, from instructors with experience at the large test prep firms, at much more reasonable prices. We can help students gain admission into the most select colleges, such as Northwestern, through targeted application advice and essay review. Our services can be delivered in your home, local library or at a network of pre-screened locations (e.g. coffee shops and book stores). How are we different? Our tutors are extremely impressive. We have 3 years of experience at a minimum, degrees from some of the most prestigious U.S. schools, 95th percentile test scores or better, and perhaps most importantly, strong interpersonal and communication skills. We screen and monitor the performance of our tutors so closely, that we offer a money-back guarantee. We insist on setting objectives before each session to increase effectiveness and efficiency. We gather feedback after every session to continually improve our approach. While a for-profit organization, we are committed to the community; we donate 5% of all profits to educational charities. Please call us to learn more, or book a session.

  • Reclaiming Clutter

    (2 reviews)

De-cluttering and purging: Over the years, I've assisted clients with purging and packing for a move, down-sizing into smaller homes, clearing out storage units, basements and more. I'm all about helping each client reach their personal specific goals for organization, changing bad habits and creating new, good habits as they move forward into overall wellness in life. Life and Wellness coaching: Similar to the purging work I do, my assistance for clients in redirecting, goal-setting and changing bad for good habits and lifestyle choices is my goal, every time. I seek the best for my clients, catering each job to their needs and goals and life direction. I love helping people! Once I got my own life on track, headed in the direction I wanted to go, I realized how valuable this is, and how much so many struggle to just get that boost into the right direction. Dead-end jobs, miserable habits, unkempt homes...all these things damage our emotional, mental, spiritual and physical health. My passion is helping people get out of these funks, find their passions and change their lives for the better. If you see a need in your life for getting rid of the clutter, I'd love to help you!

  • Tutoring by Matt

Academic needs of students are as distinct as their individual interests. As an educator in San Antonio, Texas and a volunteer English teacher in Israel, I adapted my practice on a student-by-student basis to ensure achievement of academic excellence and development of an intrinsic love and motivation for learning. I do this by building personal relationships with each student, allowing me to teach lessons in a way that is meaningful, fun, and engaging for them. Students I work with will not only make impressive academic gains, but will be challenged to see how what they learn in school is immediately relevant to their own lives. Education: St. Olaf College (B.A. political science, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies) University of Chicago (M.A. Political science) Licensed EC-6 Educator Results: During the 2014-2015 tutor year, all three of my 6th-9th grade students were admitted into Whitney Young and St. Ignatius. My ACT students grow an average of 5 composite points. As a fifth grade teacher, 100% of my students passed the state math, reading an science assessments. My students averaged 1.7 years of reading growth in nine months. Awards: In 2013, I was awarded the Rising Star Award for Excellence in Teaching by the San Antonio Independent School District. In 2014, I was a Sue Lehman Award Nominee in San Antonio, Texas.

I am heading into my 11th year of teaching but have been tutoring since my undergraduate days. I really enjoy tutoring one-on-one because as a teacher, I know how effective personalized instruction is. I tutor students in grammar, writing, reading, and the high school placement exam. It is extremely important to understand where my student is struggling and how to help him/her overcome those challenges. Our children truly are our future, and I feel personally responsible in leading the charge to make that happen.

    Adam's Academic Tutoring

I provide a comprehensive tutoring service to students in the 6th grade up through college and those who are either struggling in a particular subject matter or are seeking extra preparation for an upcoming exam, for instance, ACT, SAT, AP or just a final for a class. My professional service is personalized as I work to present the more challenging concepts in multiple, different ways -- that is, different ways of thinking about and grasping the concept -- after observing their unique approach to the material. Part of my method also involves bringing a relaxed, positive energy to the table to boost their confidence and level their perspective.

  • Writing Tutor

    The McDonald Way

I am a Chicago based English literature and writing tutor. At the age of 12, I unknowingly became a tutor for my seventh grade class, editing papers and reviewing reading material with my peers after school. As a college senior and English major, throughout my academic career, I have found pure joy in helping others improve and sharpen their reading and writing skills. For my previous experience, I was selected by a professor to help my peers who needed help with written assignments and daily quizzes. Also, I previously worked for Gear-Up, which is a federally funded program dedicated to the academic success of students grades 6 to 12. As a student advocate, I conducted workshops and created a tutoring program for my seventh and eighth grade students. What I have learned from my previous experiences is that, the ability to think critically and communicate clearly are essential tools for success--tools necessary not only of a tutee, but also from a tutor. I look forward to helping those who need and desire it most. I"m located near the Oak Park area, and am willing to travel.
