We used Eastbay to move a large number of boxes and a few pieces of small furniture out of our condo in downtown DC. The two movers worked hard and quickly. My only complaint is that I warned the company several times over email and phone that the condo was a fourth-floor walk up, yet the movers were still surprised and dismayed when confronted with the steps upon arrival. I can't really blame them for that, but we almost started off on the wrong foot. Thankfully, things went up from there. I would use them again and have already done so for lawn care.

If you're looking for a company who will treat your property like theirs choose KBLP Lawn and Landscape. I was referred to KBLP Lawn and Landscape through a friend of a friend. They have been cutting my yard for the last two years and have me on a maintenance program. I have always had a lawn company however they were just a cut and forget. KBLP Lawn and Landscape has been the best full service lawn care company I have ever had. Joe and his crew will always have my business. Put all your lawn care needs in the hands of this company and you will not regret the decision.

AMAZING cleaners! They were thorough and asked the right questions when cleaning (which I appreciated). They went above and beyond and the place looks absolutely spotless. They also seemed to use green products since the apartment has never smelled cleaner. Their pricing was very competitive. We have used other cleaners in the past and these guys are one of the best. Would give 6 stars if I could! Hire them now - you won't regret it!

Israel and his team did an incredible job on our landscaping! We bought a house that had been on the market for a year, so the landscaping, including multiple planted areas, mulch/woodchips, lawn/sod, and a goldfish pond, had been neglected. His quote was very reasonable, and his team completed the project in just 2 days. They put down new sod in a dead area, did a complete weeding/cleanup of all the neglected areas, cleaned up around the pond, and removed poison ivy. They were so good that we signed an annual contract to have them continue maintaining the lawn with mowing services, semi-annual cleanups/weeding etc. Israel was very responsive, easy to communicate with via phone, email, or text, and gave great advice on what to do with the lawn. I recommend this company without hesitation! I will post some before/after photos on Yelp as well to show the quality of work. Thank you Israel & team!

Working with Ken has been great so far. He came out to view our garden, gave us a reasonable estimate for his services, and will be starting the gardening services (and lawn cutting) sometime next week. Great so far!

Green Art was amazing! Francisco was on time, professional, friendly, and did incredible work. The hostas that he originally planted were not growing, and he came back and replaced them at 7pm one evening. We will be using him for ALL of our landscaping!

Excellent all the way around! Will be using Guiyas in the future for tree service and will try their lawn services as well. Guiyas removed a dead tree, 8 very large overgrown bushes and countless large limbs from mature oak and maple trees to remove chance of damage to our roof and to add substantial curb appeal to our home. Job well done.

True Lawn kicked some major butt at my place. I have a townhome and needed to have my backyard taken care of. My grass was about 2 feet high, with weeds growing along the fence line and weeds in my garden. I also had grasses growing in the stones of the patio, which I hadn't seen in a year. True Lawn got it all. I was very impressed. They also hauled everything away. Exactly what I was hoping for. Very thorough. I will be using them again.

Mr. Edwin Bailey personally came out to review my landscape needs and made suggestions for a lawn care program. Very professional and knowledgeable regarding lawn care and not just cutting lawns. I'm looking forward to working with him.

I recently purchased a home that was neglected for 9 months and about to go to foreclosure. The yard was a mess. Victor and his partner did a fantastic clean up, trimming of bushes, shrubs, trees, replacing mulch and edging. It looks great I am very happy. He even added a drainage pipe to a gutter and buried it so it drains to the street. He fertilized the lawn and cleaned driveway and steps and pulled out dead bushes. He was there all day. He had the most reasonsable and fair price compared to a couple other quotes I received. I plan to hire him again and refer him to neighbors and friends that need any landscaping or lawn care services. Thank you Victor!

I hired Adkins Landscapes for landscape maintenance around my home and lawn maintenance in my backyard. The lawn was in terrible shape and they brought the grass back to a beautiful rich thick green lawn. The team did a thorough spring cleanup and feeding/mulching of all landscaped beds in the back yard and just recently did an excellent job of expanding an older landscape bed in the side yard and planted a lovely new tree in the midst of it. The company is very personable in working with you to meet your needs, very knowledgeable in making recommendations, and has a high standard of quality in their work.

I'm tremendously optimistic about my new Longterm relationship with Del Ray Landscaping. I put of a request on Monday, met with the owner on Wednesday and his Team are at work as I type this review. Punctual, professional, tremendously skilled, and he not only manicures my lawn, but he takes ownership of its appearance. If this week is indicative of what's to come, I believe that I'm finally found my landscaping company.

Sagar Garden Services Co. is the best lawn cutting and care that I have experienced in my time that I have ever used. Ancieto and his family care about what they do, and it is shown in the work that they provide. Not only are they experienced in what they do, they care about how their work is performed. They are professional, courteous, loyal, and show up when they say they will show up. I have nothing but HIGH Marks for this service and would recommend that others experience what I have experienced in lawn care. Thanks so much for Ancieto Sanchez and his team.

I have called in JNB Lawn Care for mowing services. I wanted my yard mowed and trimmed as well. They were very consistent every week and if they couldn't make it one day then they would call and reschedule another day. I have been satisfied with their work and highly recommend these two gentlemen.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What's the best way to maintain your lawn?

Keeping a lawn lush and green requires consistent mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing and more. If your lawn is particularly large, it may make sense to hire a full-service lawn care provider. Whether you take a DIY approach or bring in the experts, maintaining your lawn requires a range of tasks.

Plan to mow the lawn often, allowing it stay longer than may seem convenient — longer grass is healthier grass. The general rule is to cut off no more than a third of the grass blade. This helps prevent damage to the lawn as well as keeping weeds from taking root. It’s also important to remove any weeds, then prevent new ones from growing. In spring, consider spraying a pre-emergent herbicide on your lawn to prevent crabgrass and other types of weeds from sprouting from seed. During other seasons, broadleaf weeds like dandelions can be pulled by hand or sprayed with weed killers. The best time to water your lawn is early in the morning, allowing the sun to help dry the grass. Make sure to thoroughly soak the lawn so that the water penetrates several inches into the ground.

Lawn care also requires feeding; look for a mixture of fast- and slow-release fertilizers that include nitrogen. Some lawns also benefit from aeration, which creates small holes to let air, water and nutrients penetrate the grass roots. Although most homeowners can manage these tasks on their own, a full-service lawn care company can handle them on a regular schedule, taking the guesswork out of maintaining a beautiful lawn.

How do you look after your lawn?

Having a beautiful lawn doesn’t just happen by magic. A multi-pronged approach to lawn care will result in a healthy lawn that will have your neighbors green with envy. The national average price for multi-service lawn care ranges from $40 to $50. Whether you tackle the project yourself or hire a lawn care professional, looking after your lawn requires consistent work. A baseline of lawn care is keeping your grass mowed and your irrigation system working properly. Fertilizing plants and grasses, as well as trimming and pruning foliage, may promote the health of your plants and lawn. Many lawn care pros offer different packages with varying monthly fees depending on your lawn size and the services you desire. Here are a few examples of average lawn care prices:

  • 1,000- to 2,500-square-foot lawn: $60-$90 per month
  • 5,000-square-foot lawn or larger: $110-$150 per month.
    • Includes lawn maintenance, cleanups and irrigation repairs. The company trims shrubs, pulls weeds, blows out yard waste, fertilizes and does minor irrigation repairs.
  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
  • 8,001- to 15,000-square-foot property: $35 per week/$140 per month.
  • 15,001- to 20,000-square-foot property: $40 per week/$160 per month.
    • Includes mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.

How much is lawn care service?

Ensuring a lush, green lawn is so much more than simply mowing and watering the grass; it’s also pulling existing weeds and preventing future ones, fertilizing with the right nutrients, and coaxing new grass to grow in patchy spots. For many homeowners, a full-service lawn care company is the best way to maintain a beautiful lawn. The cost for professional lawn care depends on the size of the lawn and the services the homeowner chooses, as well as the location. For the typical suburban residence, the national average cost of full-service lawn care maintenance is $40-$50 per hour. Depending on the size of your lawn, that can cost you just $100 per month or more than $1,000 per month, but the average is about $350 per month. Most monthly services include a weekly cut, especially in the spring, as well as edging, weeding, and blowing the driveway, sidewalks and porches.

What should I do to my lawn in the spring?

Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about lawn care. The ground is recovering from a long, cold winter, plants are starting to grow, and the earth is ready to receive new seeds. When the weather starts to warm, the first step in your lawn care strategy is deciding what you would like to achieve and what you need to do to make it happen. Your next step is to start cleaning up. Rake your lawn free of decomposing leaves, trim back shrubs and branches, and clear out all the weeds. Once your lawn is cleared of debris, tend to your irrigation system. Test your system and decide whether any repairs are necessary. Now it’s time to nourish the lawn. If you opt to aerate your lawn in spring, the national average cost is $70-$100. Consult with your lawn care pro, as some regions benefit from only aerating in fall. If you have bare spots, you can overseed the lawn to encourage new growth. Next you’ll want to fertilize the lawn to ensure it grows in rich and lush. Professional fertilization services may range from under $50 to over $200, depending on your lawn size. If you have a bad weed problem, you (or your lawn care pro) can apply pre-emergent herbicide to prevent a weed outbreak. Make sure the irrigation system is routinely watering your lawn, and then enjoy watching the grass grow.
