Been training at Fitness Stop for more than a month with Garid, and the results are showing. I decided I needed training after two injuries during long distance running. Garid was able to help me with my flexibility & mobility , and as a result I do not get sore after running like I used to before I started training.

Absolutely exceptional in every single way. Elin is without a doubt one of the most positive and supportive coaches. He listened closely to my goals and selected the perfect trainer for me. Trainer Alek is an amazing person who customized a program for me that is challenging, but not overwhelming. Working with Alek is very motivating and he pushes me to work harder to reach my goal in a very subtle way, so that a hard workout still is enjoyable and fun. Every week he emails me a workout summary and an overview of where I’m currently standing in my training. Elin is also tracking my progress and he reaches out every week to check up and see if everything is working out to my satisfaction. Elin and his team are professionals who truly enjoy helping people like me reach their goals. Customer satisfaction is highly regarded and they work with you to accommodate your schedule and budget. I have worked with different trainers and studios in the past, but Elin and his team are taking personal training to a whole new level.

Chris helped me train for about a month and I have learnt so much from the sessions. He taught me the basics of strength training and how I could combine that along with my cardio sessions. I was getting very bored of my treadmill and Chris encouraged me to try new techniques to boost my training so that i could get a kick out of my work outs! He introduced me to circuits. During the trainings he kept me motivated and pushed me to work hard. I toned my body doing just those exercises. He was a great trainer and kept me motivated all through.

Training with Jenise (BodyByJenise) has changed my life for the better! From the past two months I've worked out with her, I've definitely seen a huge difference in my body, eating habits, and overall energy. I use to workout in college but never remained consistent. I ended up gaining a lot of weight when I got out of college and never lost it. I seeked out services on thumbtack and received quite a few offers but decided to work with Jenise based on her experience, passion, and personal experience with weight loss and assisting clients. Boy, am I happy that I did! From my very first interaction with her, I knew she would be able to whip me into shape. I was already motivated when she walked into the gym (her body was stunning!) She listens and pushes you to reach your goal and puts her clients’ needs before anything else. Her ultimate goal is to not only help you to reach your weight/body fat goal but to also encourage you to have a better and healthy lifestyle going forward. If a workout may feel awkward for you, she finds another exercise to make you more comfortable while targeting the same area of the body. Because of Jenise, I am now consistent and excited about working out. Her passion for life and health is infectious, and she really drives you to make a lifestyle change that works best for YOU. She helps you navigate what food works for you, and those that don't. I never feel defeated after a workout with Jenise. She is motivating, positive, and understanding of where you are (physically) that day. I look forward to every session and never thought I would wake up every morning looking forward to our workouts. I highly recommend reaching out to her! I am so happy that I did!

Rashid is a great trainer who cares a lot about the well being of kids and will do anything to see you succeed in life!!! 1. I learned how to push myself when things got hard and I also I was taught how to fix my running technique with running hills forcing me to bring my knees up when I run. 2. I benefited a lot with the program because everything I did at a young age I already knew how to do it when I started playing high school football like doing the ladder drill and change of direction moments. Rashid would stay after practice with us and work on the things i needed to improve on for me I needed to work on tackling so I would stay after with him to work on it

I worked with Jaime for over a year and a half. He helped me realize a long-time goal of incorporating weight lifting into my lifestyle. I was a leaner guy looking to bulk up, and was basically starting from scratch. Jaime worked with me to customize a workout routine that drastically changed how I feel about my body. The best thing for me is the longterm health benefits his routines gave me, but people commenting on how good I look is also nice. Jaime brings a lot of knowledge to the field of personal training which is plagued with misinformation, but his biggest assets are his personality and passion. He brings an energy to the workouts that is palpable, and he truly cares about the people he works with. He is doing what he loves with his life and it shows. I ultimately stopped working with Jaime only because I finished grad school and had to go back to work. Once my schedule becomes settled I hope to work with him again to reach fitness goals that once seemed unattainable.

I would Highly recommend Anthony for any of your fitness and personal training goals. Also he's a highly skilled martial arts instructor. I started Muay Thai training in February of this year with Anthony and my skills have improved tremendously. Previously I went to a chain franchise Kickboxing place and when I started training with Anthony I realized I had been taught so many things incorrectly. If you wany to learn Proper Technique hes your guy! Along with Muay Thi training I completed a 8 weeks glute growth program that I was AMAZING results from! I achieved the definition and growth that I wanted. Lastly this past week I started Jujitsu training with Anthony and it was Great! The most tired over ever felt after a workout. So if your looking for a Personal trainer, Martial Arts Instinct, Meal Plans, Overall health and wellness look no further! He's the right guy 😁😁

Having Soupar as a trainer has been absolutely amazing. He is patient when you are learning a certain technique; he's a mixture between challenging, encouraging, and motivating when he knows you can push yourself further; has extensive knowledge in nutrition and kinesiology; and is very professional. He is really one and all. He embodies the various archetypal trainer roles and caters it to what you and your body needs. I definitely have more confidence in the gym and when I'm out in public after training with Soupar. If you are ready to take that step into a new healthier lifestyle, I highly recommend you train with Soupar.

I first used Ed 3yrs ago when I wanted to lose weight for my wedding. He helped me look & feel amazing in my wedding dress! Last fall my husband & I discovered our love for mud runs but found we aren't really in the best to complete all of the obstacles. We just hired Ed to help us build strength & endurance so that we can be more competitive and complete the obstacles in our mud runs this coming season.

Meet Lisa 3 years ago, she was teaching different types of workout classes, I had not worked out in years, she made me feel welcome as she does with everyone. She is a great motivator and is always there to help reach any goal you have! I am a 54 year old women who with her help and determination reached goals I never thought I could. She helped me complete my first 5K and just this past October I had the pleasure of running my first half marathon with her and four other women she also trained. We all completed the marathon, of course with different times but we could have never done it without her perseverance and determination to see us succeed. I am so very thankful to have Lisa Paulse not only as my fitness trainer, but I can also call her my friend.

I have been training with Joel Martin for over a year. During this period he has provided me workouts that have helped me maintain and sometimes improve my running performances. At age 91 it isn't easy to improve one's running times but thanks to Joel this has actually happened. His workouts have resulted in a definite improvement in my endurance, flexibility, balance and strength. Joel is an excellent trainer. His workout drills are well presented and he is always available for consultation.

I was never really altheltic, when I graduated hs I could hardly run a mile. I started doing CrossFit in college. I fell in love with fitness, I progressed quickly over the next 6 years but then hit a wall.... my deadlift for example was only 165lb on a good day. I couldn't do pull-up strict among other things. Thur strength training and RKC kettlebell training I have improved my deadlift to over 200lbs and continue to improve. I have gained strength and have toned muscles! I feel like I can better perform in a CrossFit setting and with running. I learned about kettlebells and Tony has taught me how to incorporate them into my fitness goals. I can't thank Tony enough for showing me how to train and teaching me how to use kettlebells. I think kettlebells are great for anyone of all ages! He is wonderful as a personal coach or in a group. He strives to push me pass my limits and is always changing and incorporating the latest methods to help me gain strength and preform better. I finally feel strong. I love that when I started with Tony in 2013 I started swinging the 15lb bell and how I can do most workouts with 25,35,45,53,65,73lbs bells!! It's amazing to progress and have Tony who is enthusiast about training and teaching his passion.

Mansur is an outstanding personal trainer. When you meet him you will see that! I am in my mid-forties and have been training off and on with Mansur since 2008. He encouraged me to become a runner and taught me lifelong fitness habits. Before I met him I had never run more than three miles at one time. Thanks to his training now run one marathon each year in addition to several smaller races. What sets him apart from other personal trainers is that he leads by example. He continuously challenges himself. Most recently he placed near the top in the Super Spartan Race and qualified for American Ninja Warrior. He rode the 400-mile Vuelta de Puerto Rico and ran a 50-mile ultramarathon in a not-to-shabby time. I could not ask for a better motivator.

Daniel is very detail orientated. He takes the time to explore all aspects of his clients needs. He is motivating, personable and the most caring trainer I have ever worked with. He is a wealth of knowledge about health as well as physical training. He thoroughly researches anything that he doesn't already know. You are lucky to have him as your holistic coach.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). If your lessons are in a martial arts studio, you may not be permitted to wear shoes, so bring clean socks if you don’t like to go barefoot. If your training includes sparring, you may be required to wear a mouthguard and/or protective headgear. Whether you’re in a group fitness class or hardcore training session, bring a sweat towel for your comfort and the comfort of people around you.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.
