Treva cooked in my home, for my husband and me. The okra was super good, the baked potato, grilled steak, peas, and tomato was also real good. The steaks were done like we like them. The pears with the chocolate sauce was the first thing my husband ate.The service was good, She cleaned up and left.
I will never forget the first Sunday that William D. Simpson walked into the church where I am pastor. That was about a year ago and I had heard from a staff member that he was going to visit and that he had written a book. So I had bought the Kindle version and already begun reading it when I first met "Billy". After introductions, I told him "I'm reading your book." I was more than surprised when his response was, "You won't finish it! No pastor ever has, they get intimidated." Billy is nothing if not a bit brash (sanctification after all is a work in progress). Well, I was duly challenged, and I knew that one pastor would indeed read, and finish, the book. What I found on the inside was sad, angering and true. The story of Billy's life is not one for the weak kneed or those who simply look at life through rose-colored glasses. He tells his sad story from childhood with a vivid clarity that gives a picture of what most of us, thankfully, will never see or experience. Then when it appears that things might just start going in favor of Billy someone disappoints him, someone who he should have been able to trust, and a downward spiral follows. But sadly that is often the case where Christianity has been turned to Churchianity, and hypocritical figures manipulate for their own gain. Billy gives an analysis of many things in our world and culture and attacks moral relativism and pop-Christianity with the fervor of someone who has seen the weaknesses up close and personal. You may not agree with every analysis but you will be challenged to think, and re-think many positions that perhaps have been more shaped by culture than by Christ. "Living in the Hope of My Imagination" is the story of one man who, humanly speaking, shouldn't even be alive today, much less serving Christ. It is the story of one man whose life has been changed by the Grace of God . . . and Billy makes clear that apart from that Grace there was no hope for him. I am happy that God allowed me to not only read the book, but also be able to read the man, as I serve as his pastor. I gladly call him friend and rejoice to see the future shaping that God is doing and going to do in his life. There may even be a sequel to follow . . . who knows, but God.
